Sam Webb: Wink to be next DC.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
Nah, Clint Mathis
February 7th, 2024 at 5:27 PM ^
Listen Buster.
February 7th, 2024 at 6:03 PM ^
It's not for me to say-e-yay.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:31 PM ^
How do I explain to my doctor that the spinal damage isn't from a car wreck but simply trying to follow UM assistant coaching hirings?
February 7th, 2024 at 4:31 PM ^
I guess co-DC's? At least that makes sense with both reports!
February 7th, 2024 at 4:32 PM ^
Chaos!
Warde hired Wink, Moore hired Cullen
February 7th, 2024 at 4:35 PM ^
And Harbaugh hires both?
February 7th, 2024 at 4:49 PM ^
Maybe Moore just got a bit of grapefruit in his eye and Warde took it the wrong way
February 7th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
I have friends with the surname Chao. Whenever people refer to "the Chaos" I can't help but think of them as Team Chaos.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:32 PM ^
It's an insider fight!
It's Henschke and Webb, both games are tight! They grabbin' points like they grabbin' Sprite!
February 7th, 2024 at 5:31 PM ^
who blinks first?
February 7th, 2024 at 5:36 PM ^
As long as we all move real slowly and obey our thirst, everything will be alright.
February 7th, 2024 at 6:58 PM ^
Who Winks first
February 8th, 2024 at 12:07 AM ^
Classic commercial!
February 7th, 2024 at 4:33 PM ^
Then Henschke is one big dumbass
February 7th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
I'm thinking Andy Reid is coming as well.
It's all Warde's fault!
February 7th, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
Yeah I am not wanting Reid at all!
He hasn't coached in college in 33 years so his recruiting will be dogshit.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:51 PM ^
Plus he steals nuggies.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
Did Henschke report or did he piggyback off the Chiefs' writer for the Athletic's report?
February 7th, 2024 at 4:38 PM ^
His article says “multiple sources” but he also has tweets referencing that Chief’s writer on the podcast
February 7th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
The obsession with hiring a guy from the Ravens tree is bad. Sherrone needs to hire the next young DC he can rather than hiring a crusty has been who is your 6th choice because you feel the need to hire a guy for a scheme.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:37 PM ^
That's age discrimination. I'm going to have to report you to HR.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:37 PM ^
I get what you’re saying, but that scheme has been integral in why Michigan has beaten OSU the last three years.
So I guess my follow-up question to you would be:
1) Would you rather hire someone who on the surface feels kind of like a meh hire but runs a defense that’s got you where you are and knows how to defend against your biggest rival?
2) You hire the next big up and coming candidate, but he basically runs Don Brown’s defense?
February 7th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
2. BCA. Best Coach Available. Brown’s scheme failed because he refused to adapt to what Day was doing. Raven’s scheme isn’t the only one that can work.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:47 PM ^
Define “best”
Bonus points if you can convince that scheme is irrelevant to that consideration
February 7th, 2024 at 5:18 PM ^
Dude the defense works so why stop running it. Run it til they make you adjust. National Champions 🏆
February 7th, 2024 at 5:27 PM ^
Why not Missouri's defensive coordinator? He did pretty good against Ryan Day
February 7th, 2024 at 4:42 PM ^
I mean that is a bit of an oversimplification though as there are other defenses besides just the Ravens scheme and the Don Brown ultra aggressive man defense all the time scheme
February 7th, 2024 at 4:46 PM ^
every scheme gets figured out eventually, you can go from 2016 Don Brown to 2020 Don Brown real quick
February 7th, 2024 at 4:58 PM ^
If it ain’t broke…you have a championship level defense returning that excels playing this defense.
I agree we want the right guy but why not have both.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:09 PM ^
2) You hire the next big up and coming candidate, but he basically runs Don Brown’s defense?
Wink DOES basically run that defense. With a varied front. He's a blitz happy, man to man coach - who by most accounts is stubborn as hell about change. We'd be getting Don Brown 2.0 but with an amoeba front. So no, I'd prefer neither of those options if Wink is the choice.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:50 PM ^
I love Coach Moore, but he doesn't have the swag and pull that Harbaugh has. Who is to say that Moore's 6th choice is the "Best Coach Available" that wants to join his staff?
What young and upcoming stud coordinator would want to join this coaching staff / athletic department looking as it currently does. He's probably gonna have to get "Old and Crusty" or "Young and unproven". If I was a young stud coordinator, and I had options, Michigan probably wouldn't be at the top of my list in its current iteration.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:01 PM ^
Cachet.
Unless you mean that Harbaugh has a hidden supply of something (whole milk? Chickens?).
February 7th, 2024 at 5:56 PM ^
Probably one who sees a young, charismatic coach who just helped win a national championship.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:25 PM ^
Yeah, sort of reminds me of M's past and painful obsession with prioritizing coaches with Michigan ties. Just HIRE THE BEST GUY.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:35 PM ^
Considering Michigan has the personal to run that scheme specifically - having recruited for it the past 3 years, I think it makes good sense to get the best available option to run it. It is also the best way to ensure those players who have been learning it the past 3 years don't leave.
February 7th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
I think I'll take the same scheme that's beaten OSU for the past 3 years any day of the week. Because until they go to a run-heavy offense again, we'll continue to have a defensive advantage.
February 7th, 2024 at 6:20 PM ^
What if they hire an actual raven? They are generally regarded as one of the smarter birds.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:35 PM ^
At this point, hell, i hope it's *this* Wink Martindale.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:39 PM ^
Is there more than one?.....🤔
February 7th, 2024 at 4:43 PM ^
Don't
February 7th, 2024 at 5:16 PM ^
Tic Tac Dough! (This should be our new NIL collective name too)
February 7th, 2024 at 5:35 PM ^
It is the University of Michigan coaching hire early evening game show block.
6:00 p.m. Deal or No Deal (about hiring coaches)
6:30 p.m. The $25,000 Pyramid (Warde's idea for an NIL collective)
7:00 p.m. Press Your Luck (about losing all of your coaches the day before signing day)
7:30 p.m. The Masked Signer (trying to figure out who will actually sign)
February 7th, 2024 at 6:24 PM ^
Big Bucks! No Whammies! Stop!
February 7th, 2024 at 4:36 PM ^
Where is that Michael Scott "No" gif when you need it?
February 7th, 2024 at 4:36 PM ^
Insiders gonna insider.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:36 PM ^
It did seem odd that they would be in talks with someone days away from a Super Bowl. Usually those talks wait until the game is over.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:40 PM ^
That would take a lot of those coaches out of consideration for jobs
February 7th, 2024 at 7:06 PM ^
And it usually does. It is why the commanders were waiting for some teams to get eliminated.
February 7th, 2024 at 4:53 PM ^
Weren't Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn both interviewing the week of the NFC championship game?
