Perfect retort. I dunno if Shanahan is any kind of right answer, but he's a highly respected coach with a wealth of experience that includes winning two trophies and two rings given to the greatest football team in the whole world. From what I've seen of the data here and elsewhere, yes, to me it sounds like this could well be yet another 'NFL leftovers' situation, sure, but I think Mighty Michigan could deign to consider the man's application if this report is accurate. Sheesh.

I loved Shanahan for a long time thanks to those Super Bowls (how could you not?) but his last 5 years in Denver were really marked by one impatient move after another, and the defense was in complete shambles by the time he left (not to mention the salary cap.) His time here in Washington was more of the same. He's also a complete control freak who I don't think is cut out for a college gig. He is the anti-Brady Hoke for the most part, so in that respect it would be great for some members of the fan base, but I think people would grow really tired of him really quickly. He's not ridiculously old (62) given his experience, but if he made it more than 5 years I'd be surprised. My least favorite thing about him is his complete and total willingness to throw his players under the bus whenever something goes wrong. In the pros, that's fine I guess (but look in the mirror sometimes dude). When you're coaching 18-22 year-olds, that's not cool in my book except in the most extreme circumstances.
