Mike Shanahan hasn't coached in college since 1983......or in other words, This is Spinal Tap came out more recently than Mike Shanahan's last time coaching a college kid.

Gruden, who has one few Super Bowl rings, a worse winning percentage, and has been in the broadcast booth for 6 years since getting canned by the team he took to the Super Bowl after a six year stretch with a losing record, gets GRUDEN!! type posts in every CC tread since forever, but Shanahan elicits universal DO NOT WANT posts?

Someone please explain. I'm confused.

Here's a performance from another guy who, after he'd been fired as head football coach of a college team that he'd led to a 10-28 record in four seasons (including the only two double-digit loss seasons in the school's football history), begged to be asked back as head coach for a fifth year, and even offered to work for free.

Despite his stirring performance, the school sent him packing.  But he soon landed on his feet in Ann Arbor, Michigan where his performances continued to be just as bad as they were in his previous job.  And he was fired again.

So, when the Florida and Michigan head football coach jobs open up, you can be sure that he'll be putting in his application because, like Mike Shanahan, he wants those jobs, too.

Yes ... yes and yes. He is 62. That is not too old. He is a top Nfl coach ... Maybe one of the best of the last 15 years or so. Don't blame him for the Redskins as they suck, This would be a very good hire.

I can't imagine him being able to recruit. His harsh demeanor, I think, would not play well in living rooms across the midwest. Plus he has funny teeth.

That prior NFL experience stuff wears off very quickly.  Nobody in CFB thinks of Charlie Weis as Patriot's OC.  They look at what he did in college.  Hell, people now look at GMatt in terms of Michigan, not the Baltimore Ravens anymore.

We stopped thinking about GERG's Bronco's record after about two plays at Michigan.

You get one year out of what you did in the NFL.  After that, it's what did you do in CFB.

That's why people are so excited about Jim Harbaugh.  Because in addition to the NFL, he actually did it recently in college.

A awesome hire, he has a way better record then Gruden. I would live this hire. He would get a few young college guys to help eecruit and Shanny doesn't take any shit!!!

I've heard consistently he is not a player's coach and is not good at maintaining relationships with players. He is a strategist and a rather good one at that. The comparison I think of is Charlie Weis. Shanahan would do well with refined players and would put them in a good position to win. He would do an awful job at developing 18 year olds into good football players and responsible adults. Not interested. At all.

...successful implementation of the West Coast Offense at the college level.

Playbook is just way too deep and jargon too complicated for players at this stage of their career with classes to attend and NCAA time limit restrictions.

We reported this first. Can't help that BR picked it up. Can say with certainty that his interest is real. I don't see him as a fit at Michigan and don't believe he would be heavily pursued.
