Playoff Chaos Scenario Unlocked: Who ya got and does the committee have the guts to make the right call?
Michigan and Washington, automatic ins.
FSU, deserves to be in.
One last spot that the committee is dying to give to Bama, but they'd have to go against all previous precedents set regarding head to head wins and undefeated P5 teams mattering.
Does the committee have the guts to make the right call and stonewall their SEC crushes?

I'd be heaaaaaaated if I were fsu and got left out.

Michigan - FSU
Washington - Texas
That'd be the dream
Unfortunately I think it'll be Michigan - Bama, Washington - Texas

Fox postgame has UM UW UT Bama
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:05 AM ^
Joel Klatt’s been banging that drum all week in this scenario.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:13 AM ^
I'm so sick of Johnson and Klatt.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
Fwiw, The consensus at The Athletic is FSU in, Texas out. It will be interesting to see who’s right.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:41 AM ^
Johnson and his “World Famous Buckeyes” I get but it doesn’t get much better than Klatt.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:28 AM ^
Panderers.

What it will be...
Michigan
Washington
Texas
Alabama
What it should be....
Michigan
Washington
Florida State
Texas (I'm okay switching FSU/TX here since they both still get in)
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:09 AM ^
Agreed on what it should be. Hope they aren't that bone headed.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:33 AM ^
Yep agreed. It’s looking like a heavy media push for the first scenario you listed
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:43 PM ^
FSU just beat a top-15 team by two scores with their third string QB, and this is supposed to be a knock AGAINST them? Wtf are people talking about? Leaving FSU out would be insane.
Anything other than Michigan #1, Wash #2, Texas #3, and FSU #4 is wrong.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
FSU Is beyond fucked. Even before this week people were saying if GA wins they would still leave FSU out. Georgia has a better chance than FSU at this point which which is totally wrong.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:48 PM ^
I disagree.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:38 AM ^
Georgia doesn't have a chance in hell at getting in.
December 3rd, 2023 at 1:28 AM ^
I mean by your own arguments, it might make slightly more sense to reorder those for to Michigan, Wash, FSU, Texas.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:25 AM ^
I call it the invisible Louisville Cardinal team
They were invisible when they beat the media darlings Notre Dames ass.
They were invisible once again when FSU beat them and gave and undefeated champ a quality win.
Amazing how they were invisible in both games at both times.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:43 PM ^
Michigan #1, Washington #2, Texas #3, Bama #4. I can't keep FSU in, they have no resume. I'm guessing Michigan wins twice, because I'm a total biased homer, and I love every one of you. Go Blue.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
FSU beat the shit out of LSU
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:50 PM ^
45-24 FSU over LSU
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
FSU was 2-0 against the SEC. If the SEC didn’t want to lose their spot to FSU, they should have beaten FSU. Or at least have their 3rd best team stay within 21 points of FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:09 AM ^
Precisely, they played nobody. All season long fans have stood in line to say Georgia deserves to be #1 because a completely different Georgia team did things in completely different seasons. That has now come home to roost. Bama beat Georgia, and by the flawed logic of insisting, at every turn, that Georgia was the best, not based at all on this seasons performance, Bama gets in by beating them.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:32 AM ^
If Notre dame beat Louisville it wouldve been the win of the century. Louisville crushed ND so it was of no importance. FSU beating Louisville today was also of no importance. It’s to the point that these games really dont matter.
Your SEC winner is on mulligan status. FSU needs to do better than undefeated. That is the message i am getting.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
They have the same number of wins against the top 25 as Bama or Georgia and beat 8 or 9 bowl eligible teams which is the most in the country. Saying they don't have a resume is just flat out wrong.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:35 AM ^
Fuck if a Michigan board is carrying SEC water no wonder. Its not the eye test Bama passes its the EyeSPN test they pass. So many gobble up that ESPN narrative.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:43 PM ^
I think they’re gonna screw over Texas. It’ll be:
Mich
Wash
Alabama
FSU
(or swap FSU and Bama if the committee feels like they want to screw over Michigan as scandal retribution)
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
Screwing over Texas is WAY more fair than screwing over FSU. But SEC should get fucked.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
no it isn't. Not when Texas beat Bama head to head AND won their conference. I'd rather see FSU get screwed than Texas.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:43 PM ^
Who will get the illustrious Sandpaper Dildo®?
Texas?
FSU?
Georgia & Bama riding that SEC bias all the way into the playoffs?
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Conference champions with the best records:
- Michigan
- Washington
- FSU
- Texas
But the whole point of the committee is to make sure they can override on field performance, so I wholly expect them to screw over Texas or FSU in favor of ‘Bama.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
There should be a riot if they put Bama in but not Texas, with or without FSU.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
I have yet to hear a persuasive argument for including Alabama.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:09 AM ^
The argument is
a) Beat the #1 team
b) SEC champion
c) Only loss is to another playoff team
How persuasive that is will vary by individual, but I think those are the main points.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
Alabama barely beat a mediocre team last week. This bullshit that Bama is better than when they lost to Texas is bullshit. I saw Alabama vs. Auburn. Alabama doesn’t belong in the top 4.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:40 AM ^
#1 UM has zero losses
#2 UW has zero losses
THEE most important factor is NO LOSSES.
Now lets look at other power 5 teams that are in the same position as #1 and #2 then after that we can look at one loss teams.
#3 FSU
#4 Head to head is here to settle it and settle it easily Texas
Anything else and you watch too much ESPN.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
Because the committee has never been consistant in their states criteria when selecting teams, but they have always been consistant with the following:
- SEC bias
- Prioritize TV ratings
These idiots don’t seem to realize that the reason the NFL and the NCAA BB tournament are so popular is because formulas that guarantee teams a playoff spot regardless of the eye test or popularity or whatever is what gives fans hope. And when fans have hope they are engaged. If Patrick Mahomes gets injured on the last play of the regular season it has no bearing on their playoff spot. A division winner will get in the playoffs over a non-division winner with a better record.
The whole playoff committee thing boosts ESPN’s ratings for talking head shows while depressing the ratings for actual football games.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Florida State
4. Texas
this is the right order. Maybe flip Michigan and Washington if you want. But Florida State deserves to be in as a 13-0 conference champion. Texas should be in over Bama on head to head.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
I think flipping FSU and Texas makes more sense than flipping Michigan and Washington. But either of those moves is reasonable. Unlike having any other 4 team combination.
December 3rd, 2023 at 5:25 AM ^
Ehh…the same logic that keeps FSU ahead of Alabama (FSU being undefeated) would also keep them ahead of Texas. And if the committee tosses being undefeated aside, then Alabama would also jump FSU.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
They have to give it to FSU. To break precedent to squeeze Bama through would be disgusting. Don't care what Joel Klatt says. Michigan, Washington, Texas, FSU.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^
Fuck Klatt and Gus.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:41 AM ^
The more I watch these idiots the more I realize they know next to nothing about football.
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
I feel bad for FSU, but there's no world in which the SEC champion doesn't make the playoff.
$$$$
December 2nd, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Not that I’m on the committee or anything but…
I think it should be:
1. Washington
2. Michigan
3. Florida State
4. Texas
What I think it will be is:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Alabama
4. Georgia.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:09 AM ^
bama, almost certainly. georgia and bama, no way, jose.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
If Bama is in the Texas is in. And if Texas is in Georgia is not in.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:15 AM ^
um uw bama uga
...might as well just piss everybody off and pick the best 4 teams.
December 3rd, 2023 at 2:44 AM ^
Wait wasnt Oregon one of the top 4 for sure just a few hours ago? Maybe we need to check our “we know fuck all who is the best” at the door. More like weve all watched too much sEcSPN and its stuck in our heads.
December 3rd, 2023 at 12:25 AM ^
No world in which Bama makes it and Texas is left out. The payment for leaving out FSU is including Texas. BTW - Texas should be in before Bama or Georgia.
