No. I thought it was stupid to consider firing him in 2020. Not just because that year is basically a catastrophe for humanity, but because there was nobody more qualified than him available to coach, or who would want to coach at Michigan at that time.
3 big ten titles in a row, first national championship in 27 years, and you think that his legacy might be impacted if the program falls apart without him? Not a chance.
I like seeing the success of college players in the NFL, regardless of school rivalries. Being a fan doesn’t mean we have to wish bad things on rival players. It’s great to see the former players show some love though - that’s shows maturity and class. Go Blue!
It felt like the crowd needed to hear it. The crowd was getting anxious and restless. Washington was shutting down the offense and moving the ball. It was cathartic and rejuvenating. We got louder after the time out, almost like we were willing the team to finish the mission.
I have a little tradition before the start of every major game. I sit in my chair, pour a glass of Blantons, and when the clock begins, I take a sip. The last three years. It’s not a perfect system but I’m a little superstitious.
Well, it just so happens I decided to go see history in person. Brought a little plastic bottle, small enough to smuggle in, and got to my seat. Unscrewed the cap and took that sip.
I was 8 years old the last time Michigan won. I moved to Ohio in 2006 as a sophomore in high school, the year where Michigan and OSU were 1 and 2 and Michigan narrowly lost.
Then came the dark years. The mediocrity. The struggles. I know this to be true, though - struggle is what makes programs great. Struggle and triumph. The galling entitlement of OSU is because they don’t know, or don’t remember, that coal makes diamonds. This team, this program, this fanbase understands in a way that brings us together - Michigan vs Everybody.
For the rest of my life, I will be able to say the words - I WAS THERE. And that little sip never tasted so sweet.
I wish McCord well. He really got a rough go of it at OSU, a team that didn’t fit his style of play very well. I do wish OSU a century of apocalyptic mediocrity.
What if he had gotten the Texas Tech job instead of the WVU job? Would we have been cursed with the seven terrible years of apocalyptic Michigan football?
If Florida State beats the defending national champions…
AND the winner of the national championship game is either Alabama or Texas…
I think they’d have an excellent argument to say that they are the national champions. Of course, I want Michigan to win it all. But it would be delicious to see FSU stick it to the committee.
Yes. It sucks. I hate the 4 team seeding almost as much as I hated the 2 team seeding. I can’t wait for a 12 team playoff. I wanted Florida state to be in the playoff, I thought they deserved it more. I just can’t imagine a world where they’d beat Georgia or Alabama without their heisman contender for a QB. Hell, I thought Alabama got lucky against Georgia. I’m not on the committee, though. Someone was going to get screwed and I’m glad it wasn’t Michigan this year.
Oklahoma State was ranked 18th and got walloped by Texas. Florida State played #16 and managed to get just 219 yards of offense. I’m not saying that it’s fair. The system is changing because it needs to change. The playoff expansion can’t come at a better time than this.
I feel for the guy. And he should probably win the Archie Griffin award. But if Florida State wants to prove it, they need to beat Georgia. And if they don’t, then the committee will be justified. Without him, I don’t think FSU can beat Georgia.
I wore my Michigan shirt under my work shirt today. I won’t be at work tomorrow, so I figured today would be best. I have also trolled my Ohio State friends. I live in Ohio, I wanted to get my shots in.
It’s super annoying to be favored to win the game but ranked lower than your opponent. Hopefully we’re running at full strength and can bury the hopes and dreams of Ohio State mercilessly.
For whatever this is worth, the run game is going to tire out their D-line, which will give JJ more time in the pocket later in the game. It’s also eating up precious minutes on the clock, controlling that time of possession. It rests our D and puts pressure on their offense to make plays…and make mistakes. I’ll be an optimist and say that the boa constrictor will sink its teeth into the 4th quarter and leave no doubt.
