Oklahoma offense

Seeing oklahoma offense slice through Gerogia like its nothing - question for the coaches and smart Mgoposters

1. Understand that its all spread, but how difficult is it to implement parts of it to Michigan's scheme

2. I believe that this can be potent without Baker Mayfield (other way of saying that while Mayfield is a baller, this can still give fits to teams without him). Wrong to assume that?

3. Oklahoma doesn't recruit at elite level yet they produce good receivers and RB. Wrong to assume scheme and coaching is the reason they are a threat to CFP from Big12 every year?

4. What things can Michigan do schematically to be prolific on offense starting from today and what you saw today? Do we have the personnel to get there in a few months for 2018?

What irks me is how plug and play Oklahoma is - any RB they plug in starts production right away; WR? Ceedee Lamb has almost 800 yars as a true freshman.

Meanwhile, we have excuses that our 5 star WR is a freshman.

I want this offense so bad. Its a thing of beauty. Even the most humming OSU offense is not as aesthetically pleasing as this OU offense, I hope they win it out.

It wouldn't be that difficult to implement If we brought in good offensive coaches with the right background and approach.

Instead we have (solely on the offense) plumbed the depths of very bad NFL teams.  Is it a surprise that our offense looks like the Cleveland Browns offense after we hired their OC, while our defense looks like the very good Boston College defense, after we hired their DC (a coach who was having success in the college game, at a program with fewer resources)?

Hopefully a light will go on with Harbaugh.  (Even RR no longer insists on a 3-3-5.)  Maybe he will watch the successful teams in the CFP this year.  He wanted to win badly in laser tag and didn't limit himself to Queensberry rules.  Hopefully he will jettison the 1980s NFL limitations on our college football offense.

I keep saying "wow that was a beautifuly designed play" over and over and over. Can't remember the last last time I said that watching the Michigan offense.

Maybe those sprint out throw back screen's Borges ran from time to time.

And an imaginative COLLEGE offense. We have a coach that bleeds both NFL and old school football. The best NFL offense he had was running the pistol with Kap and an option offense. He had one really good season with Stanford with Luck as qb. I still feel his major downfall so far has been the passing concepts for the qb and the wr’s. The run game bogs down because we have no threat of a pass game. You can’t tell me that we missed on DPJ and Nico Collins both and they can’t consistently get open. Crawford was a 4 star as well. We rarely use the slot receivers. Our passing game seems complicated and boring.

Elite at OL and QB. Defense is good enough to give Clemson a great game. Will be an outstanding title game. UM has a long way to go to get to this level of elite OL and QB. UM's defense is elite and ready to compete for the NC, but our offense is way behind.

can be a good QB. Has a solid skill set. Needs good coaching and maintenance

That is where the $$$ paid coaches are supposed to come in and teach/mentor

This offseason is extremely important as this team has reached a cross roads

Go back and watch his part. He acts like he doesn’t even want to be there. I thought that day was because they interviewed Brady and didn’t really talk to him at all. After seeing him now, he just has a very disinterested personality. Doesn’t have to be Mayfield but could use some passion and fire.

It's all about the QB. You basically have to have a star QB, or you have to be Alabama (and a great QB can even trump that team full of 1st round picks). Clemson doesn't win without Watson. Oklahoma is average without Mayfield. FSU and Jameis. Auburn and Cam. The list goes forever.

Yeah, you can get in the playoffs with a good team and decent QB, but the team with the great QB is going to win the playoffs/championship 9 times out of 10. If you put Mayfield, Watson, Newton, etc on last year's Michigan squad, they probably win the Championship. QBs are the difference between average teams and Champions. Same with the NFL. The teams that have a Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees, etc caliber QB are going to win 9 out of 10 times. Every once in awhile a Dilfer surrounded by hall of famers can pull it out.

Anyone seen this site before?

Any credibility?

lists coaching changes as if they had been officially annouced:

  • Replaced Offensive Line/Tight End/Running Game Coordinator Greg Frey with Dan Enos as Running Backs Coach, and moved Jay Harbaugh back to Tight End Coach and Drevno to Offensive Line
  • Replaced Safeties Coach Brian Smith with Devin Bush Sr. on an interim basis for the Bowl Game; how the safeties play in the bowl may determine his future coaching status

Is that we’ll continue to taper off in recruiting as top shelf recruits see that we are not developing, look disjointed on offense, and can’t compete for even B1G titles. Need to prove something next season

We are adrift at sea on raft made of branches, FedEx tape, Portable-Potty door for a sail and Wilson. We need a whale to swim by and shower us with water to wake up.

For everyone who wants to write off Peters, let's take a step back and remember that he is a freshman surrounded by freshman. He looked bad today. Keep in mind he has very little help surrounding him at the moment. The elite playmakers he needs to rely on are also developing freshman and sophomores. I.e. Black, DPJ, etc. long way to go for him at Michigan, let's pump the brakes before we write him off as a bust

an exciting CFP semifinal between Oklahoma and Georgia. Hard not to notice the very significant gap in quality comparing these teams to Michigan. Michigan is not close to this level. Maybe great things will happen over the off-season, and Michigan will compete at this level next year. But hard to see that happening today.

Have a senior QB who has won the Heisman trophy and will be a top 5 NFL draft pick.

Our starting QB was lost for the season after 4 games. End of story.

Are the Packers and Colts changing their offense and firing their coaches?

And to all the people talking about freshman QB this and that from Georgia, remember we started our 3rd string QB today. Remember that. All these players off teams have the same QB they started with ALL fucking season.

I didn't see the audible, but I think it's fair to say that Fromm has more opportunities to succeed than BP due to the team he plays on. Maybe Fromm is a better qb, I won't even argue that, but the expectations for a freshman qb playing with a bunch of other freshman are a bit lofty imo. I was disappointed in the game plan, but peters has a long way to go here. Just because he isn't a superstar as a RS Frosh doesn't mean he'll never be good.
