Ohio State players charged with rape and kidnapping
Ugly news out of Columbus.
“Ohio State senior cornerback Amir Riep and redshirt senior linebacker/safety Jahsen Wint were charged with rape and kidnapping by the Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday.”
“Warrants have been issued for both of their arrests. The charges are first-degree felonies.”
The details in the article turned my stomach.

Awful shit.

May the victim experience compassion, love and justice
February 12th, 2020 at 1:07 PM ^
In reading the 11W comments I’m not overly hopeful this will occur in Ohio.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
Sweet jesus, that article was horrifying. Innocent until proven yada yada but you don't have details like that and charges like that without some serious damned evidence. I hope like hell the victim is able to get help
February 12th, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
The “details” are likely just the victim’s account of what happened. I was falsely accused with something similar in the past, but luckily the girl that made the claim was a fool and I had an alibi. Up until this point this story is purely “he said, she said” and the whole encounter could have been consensual.
The only exception is if the actual act was recorded, which I doubt. Let this play out. Don’t rush to a side without thinking of all of the possibilities. Innocent until proven guilty.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Pretty bad. I hope they throw the book at them.
February 12th, 2020 at 9:28 AM ^
In cases like this I wish capital punishment was on the table.
Those guys aren't human beings, they're animals.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Wish I didn't read that. So sad after thousands of years we still have men thinking this is acceptable in any fashion. Much respect to the victim to come out and voice this crime...though it is 2020 so I should also say those that are unable to come forward with their stories don't LOSE any respect, either.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:45 PM ^
It’s gut wrenching to hear survivors explain why many don’t feel they will be believed or even safe if they tell their story. We have a lot of work to do as a society
February 12th, 2020 at 1:26 AM ^
Thank you... I'm not going to read it then.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:33 PM ^
Just an awful situation. Prayers to the survivor.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
If you feel the need to record someone saying sex was consensual, chances are you raped that person.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:54 PM ^
In this situation you’re probably right! But if you’re famous I definitely could see you having women sign something or verbalizing that your sexual conduct was consensual, for financial reasons. These dudes are broke college students, so I doubt that was her motive.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:07 AM ^
Broke or not, Ohio has irrational hero-worship of its football program that often clears thresholds for cult behavior. Hell, #MeToo took down some of the most powerful people in Hollywood and they didn't even touch the Zach Smith scandal. Urbs was too much. They'll get around to building a statue of him at some point.
This ain't a fight anyone gets into for sympathy or attention. The death threats have probably already started.
February 12th, 2020 at 8:45 AM ^
Think Luke Fickell would hesitate to take the job at The ohio state penitentiary, because of the questionable campus culture? my $ says he'd crawl there from Cinnci.
February 12th, 2020 at 9:18 AM ^
Just as long as he wins, he has the entire State of Ohio protecting him what does he have to fear?
If Chase Young or Dobbins were involved this story doesn't get out there.
Just out of curiosity, I went to rivals to see their recruiting profiles One was the lowest 3 star and the other was the lowest four star. They don't seem like big impact players.
The scum bags in Ohio are looking at this as two more scholarships opening up. . .
February 12th, 2020 at 10:53 AM ^
Don't go blaming the university for this. No place would be responsible for these type of actions by idiots. If anything, blame their societal upbringing.
February 12th, 2020 at 11:13 AM ^
Like Michigan State wasn't responsible for Nasser? If so why is the former president of MSU facing criminal charges? Why is Nasser's boss in prison (recently released), why did AD Mark Hollis lose his job?
February 12th, 2020 at 11:19 AM ^
If you can't see the difference between a school employee being covered systematically by a University and two kids doing something deplorable in their off campus residence...well I'm not sure what to say to you.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:56 AM ^
Apparently there is a phone app to record someone's consent to sex (and even specific acts).
So glad I'm married. It's a strange fucking world out there.
February 12th, 2020 at 8:05 AM ^
Marriage doesn't imply consent. Sexual assault still happens in marriage. (If being specific)
February 12th, 2020 at 8:54 AM ^
According to my wife it does (I know the law).
My point was that the entire concept of consent and what constitutes acceptable or expected behavior has changed massively over the past 20ish years.
February 12th, 2020 at 10:25 AM ^
One could easily worry about your past behavior from these comments, Hatter.
February 12th, 2020 at 12:19 PM ^
Huh?
I think the point here is dating now is different than dating back then.
For example, for people who are 40 there wasn't consent contracts when we were younger. We didn't have those things. Which makes it weird to us but maybe normal to an 18 year old.
February 12th, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
I am over 40 and have no idea what a consent contract is. Is that actually something that people use today before having sex? Serious question.
I can see why this would be a good thing - eliminates any misunderstanding as to whether consent exists and prevents someone from later alleging that something was not consensual - but to me, it would just seem really weird to stop somewhere between (using childish bases) 2nd and 3rd base and say, "hold on a sec, before we keep going, sign this."
Again, i am old and recognize that things are different know.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:09 PM ^
Is that actually something that people use today before having sex? Serious question.
Yes. Serious answer :)
Some schools go so far to train students at orientation about it and require the consent in writing (often with stipulations such as if one of the parties is impaired, a contract cannot be entered).
Being 40+, I'm not in the loop anymore. But this is what I found regarding Michigan just searching briefly:
https://studentsexualmisconductpolicy.umich.edu/content/1-consent
I heard Minnesota had a written contract (did it look like this, IDK?: https://eforms.com/consent/sexual/)
But I'm not tracking this stuff on a daily basis other than to know that the answer to your question is yes -- and enforcement ranges from being held to a policy (first link), a written contract, or an app.
February 12th, 2020 at 10:41 AM ^
On that note, the NYT Daily podcast had an interview with the lead counsel for Harvey Weinstein last week, and she made the note that she believes that all men should require that women sign a consent form before engaging in sexual activity.
The then proceeded to say, after being asked whether she had ever been a victim of sexual assault, that she wasn't because she "would never put [herself] in a position to have that happen to [her]".
The amount of victim-blaming is absolutely terrifying in so many circles of society.
February 12th, 2020 at 11:38 AM ^
Yea well, if that's the case, record it BEFORE, not afterwards.
February 12th, 2020 at 8:21 AM ^
Chances are the idea to record the victim saying it was consensual was taught to them.
February 12th, 2020 at 8:49 AM ^
Kobe ?
February 11th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
Well, cotdamn.
Ohio State is off to a disgusting headstart for the Fulmer Cup.
/For those that don't know, the Fulmer Cup is sardonically awarded every season to the program with the most and worst off-season issues.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
I won't prejudge, but maybe it would be smart to get consent before engaging in intercourse instead of after? Geez.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:42 PM ^
Guys that do this are worthless
February 12th, 2020 at 8:52 AM ^
Do they have K. B. type money?
February 11th, 2020 at 11:47 PM ^
First and foremost, what a horrible thing. I can’t even....
Second, the Urban Meyer pattern continues. He has done damage at every college he has worked at during his time coaching and immediately after he has left. What a fucked up legacy. I’ll leave it at that.
February 12th, 2020 at 10:42 AM ^
probably due to the brain issue. couldn't have to be anything to do with his character. After all he was named for a pope
February 12th, 2020 at 3:12 PM ^
Yes, back when Popes had their own armies and invented the Inquisition.
February 11th, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
If this is true (and apparently there’s video evidence), both players should go to jail.
February 12th, 2020 at 12:02 AM ^
If they are found guilty, hopefully they get the extensive prison time those crimes deserve. Truly disgusting allegations.
February 12th, 2020 at 12:03 AM ^
I have to admit the comments on 11W aren’t as disgusting as we have come to expect and are not victim trashing the way they have done in the past.
February 12th, 2020 at 7:38 AM ^
The optimist in me wants to say this means the average 11W reader isn't as bad as I (we) thought. The cynic in me says that's only because these aren't surefire starters in 2020.
February 12th, 2020 at 8:24 AM ^
Riep was in line to start at slot corner. I couldn’t care less, I hope he rots in prison. This isn’t about OSU football or roster spots, this was a disgusting act, and it’s about the victim, who I pray doesn’t become vilified herself
February 12th, 2020 at 7:58 AM ^
There are some that are pretty bad though that completely ignore the victim and go straight to how this affects the team. A few comments even sound happy since these guys are taking up rosters spots, but don't play
February 12th, 2020 at 10:06 AM ^
To be fair, neither of the accused are impact players.
February 12th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
I normally like your posts but why does depth chart matter?
February 12th, 2020 at 1:48 PM ^
Which is of course, the most important thing for OSU folk.
They must have missed the Urban's Ethics 101 class, or couldn't read the "Don't rape" sign in the weight room.
February 12th, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
To be fair, this is an absolutely dumbass, abhorrent comment.
February 12th, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
So if you don't play its OK to rape women at OSU?
