Jim Knowles defense was the main reason Oklahoma State was in position to play for the playoff last weekend. He’s a little older and has a similar career track to Don Brown (former FCS head coach and experience in the ACC).

He’ll take over after the Rose Bowl, so no idea yet on staff changes to current group.

I think the BPONE is still strong here for some. Courtney Morgan leaves for Washington and our pets heads are falling off for posters, OSU hires this guy who will be in a new system, new conference and going against our explosive offense next year and people are like the Death Star just became unbeatable again. Day has one more year to right this ship, pressure is all on him next year.

No surprise here.  After the beat down we gave them, Day was forced to make changes.  Game in C-Bus next year will be interesting.  I think we will need to rely on the Offense next year, which sets up a fun matchup with any revamped OSU D he puts in-place.

Oklahoma State’s average defensive starter age was 21.9 years old.

I am curious to see if some of his success this year was due to overage seniors getting COVID years.

OSU board in 247 stating he will do better because he has ‘better talent’.  But … how much does that matter when Michigan shut their star QB down with 3/4*’s?

I don’t know a ton a Knowles, but lets look at this year in context.

Texas is GOD AWFUL this year (wife and I have season tix) and Oklahoma probably had one of their worst teams in recent memory.

The Big12 was completely wide open and they still couldn’t get it done. Thats more on the offense, but it’s not like his defense shut down Baylor.

Yes he was a Broyles Finalist and he has a ton of coaching experience….BUT, if he is so good with soo much experience why is he not a HC? Im getting Don Brown vibes here.

To be fair I didn’t look up his his achievements and complete past successes. But my librarian is faxing it over.

All Im saying is this is probably an upgrade over Coombs, but this isn’t Venebuls.

I’m betting and hoping that the new OSU DC will Know Less than Gattis as long as he stays at UM.

The whole OSU program disgusts me.  Its entirely about football, boosters and nothing else.  There isn't a scintilla of academic credibility.  Honestly, they should transfer to the SEC.

I know this guy a little from his Cornell days. I don’t think this is a particularly good hire from OSU.  He’s spent most of his career coaching players with better ability to process information (at Cornell and Duke) than the guys he’ll get at OSU, and even at OkSt his great year was on the back of a bunch of Brooks Bollinger-style 6th year seniors with a ton of veteran experience.  Not a schematic genius, couldn’t win as an HC at f’in Cornell, and not someone who has coached the type of players he’ll get at OSU, for better or for worse.  He’s competent and there won’t be a recurrence of the raging tire fire of OSU’s first couple of games this season, but he’s not remotely at the level of, say, Schiano, who was grossly overqualified to coach a defense.

Saw a piece about him on YouTube and he’s got a goofball personality.  Seems to me he fits in with Gundy, who’s also kind of a goofball.  I question how good of a fit he’ll be with Day, who is wound pretty tight.

Had one “good” (B12 offenses were historically down) year with a bunch of seniors and now all of a sudden he’s a good DC? Let’s look at his numbers against their number #1 rival, also far and above the best team over his tenure in the Big 12, Oklahoma:

2018: allowed 48 points and 702!!! yards of offense (353! yards rushing… ouch)

2019: 34 points and 450 yards of offense (283 yards rushing)

2020: 41 points and 492 yards of offense (191 yards of rushing, not terrible ?)

2021: 33 points and 441 yards of offense (189 yards rushing)

This is the solution to Ohio State’s defense? Yikes… All I see is a DC who consistently got shredded on the ground against the best team he played in conference. Smells like Don Brown.
