I thought we had a good shot of him coming back. He’s made some flashy plays but hasn’t really stood out in a way where you’d say he’s ready. With Chicago still in the dumps and him virtually missing all of last season, I could have seen him taking in another year of college hockey.

He was the mostly likely of the sophomores to leave early. Now time to see what Brindley does, Columbus wants to sign him.

#CBJ have expressed to 2023 2nd rd pick Gavin Brindley and his family/representation that they feel he’s ready to turn pro.

Brindley, who just finished his sophomore season at University of Michigan with an NCAA semifinal loss, is said to be considering his options. Stay tuned.

I agree - thinking Chicago would be in no hurry to sign him since they are still a long way away.  Same with Columbus and Brindley, so I guess we’ll wait and see but losing both those guys would suck.  Duke is one I’m interested in.  As a junior I think his NHL team loses his rights if he doesn’t sign.  Would love to get at least 2 back of Brindley, Duke and McGroarty but guys gotta do what they gotta do.

I maintain 2 years of a 1st rounder does not qualify for a michigan hockey summer. Michigan has not had a true michigan hockey summer in years. The OHL used to be the bane of our existence and honestly it feels like we’ve had a ton of success lately

I do wish we got another year but 2 years is probably median for 1st rounders lately. Best of luck Frank

Generally agree, though after one mostly-injured year and another year of very good but not quite great, Nazar seemed a stronger candidate to return than would be typical of a first rounder. Given some of his late-season play, if he feels he's ready, then you can't blame him for going.

Felt like it took him a long time to start to show the potential talent we knew he had.  But he represented the M well and we’ll always have that highlight play against Sparty.  Best of luck Frank!  But fuck the Blackhawks, lived in Chicago in the 00’s and the Wirtz family’s intentional neglect of that team was criminal.

Nazar really showed his talents in the postseason. Would have loved him to come back another season, but happy for him.

This program has always won when the goalkeep is elite. As Naurato fills out his roster with more 3 & 4 year guys, I expect the defense will be more physical. And hopefully we find the netminder who will get us title #10.

Brian made a good point that even shitty NHL teams want to get their potential stars to sign earlier so that they can get them on the 2nd contract before they elevate to the next level of performance. That way they can hopefully sign them for less than what they would with one more year or seasoning/development.

Nazar's elite speed gives him such a high floor. He could be a really good third-line center who occasionally moonlights as a second-line guy for a decade-plus. Best of luck, Frank!
