My CJ Carr hot take on this board made it on Cover 3 podcast / partial apology

I am a big Cover 3 fan and Tom Fornelli (mio paesano) read out my CJ Carr hot take from MgoBoard on today's podcast.  The funny thing is that if you read my posting history, I go for the "voice of reason" track 98% of the time.

Anyway, I used a silly word to describe CJ and I apologize for that (like he cares - LOL), it was uncalled for / immature for me to call him a name.  I will be better than that going forward.  CJ obviously has the right to go any school he thinks is the best for him and I certainly hope that he stays healthy and gets his shot at the NFL. My daughter actually knows him through a friend and says that he is a good kid and we all know how great the Carr family has been in the Ann Arbor community.

However, on the radio, Mike Spath and Craig Ross (who I really like) both were talking about how Michigan fans should be rooting for CJ and Notre Dame.  Mike Spath said it would be "gross" to root against Notre Dame.  F* that.  I want Notre Dame to go 3-9 every season between now and 2050.

He picked a rival school and said publicly that he wants to start recruiting for Notre Dame.  Given how many times we go up against them, especially for local kids, that means he is absolutely going to be recruiting against Michigan.  Nobody should expect that all of a sudden Michigan fans are going to start rooting for Notre Dame.

This is officially my last post on CJ until the Lions take him 1st overall in the 2028 draft!  Then I will go back to being a huge CJ Carr fan.

Everyone enjoy their evening!

Can't wait for them to make another podcast about this comment. It annoys me when people troll message boards for the absolute scummiest comments and paint them as representative, but then you go and feed the fire. Way to go.

I upvoted you for your honesty…and I don’t want to make you feel like this is entirely directed at you. Unfortunately, you’re the sacrificial lamb.

I guess I just really don’t understand why the need to pile on a 16 year old? Maybe 17?! I honestly have no clue how old the KID is. Personally, his family pedigree is meaningless to me: go be your own person…especially when you’ve been told to be someone else your entire life.

Only because you’ve been honest, I’ll call you out…but there are hundreds if not thousands of people making this kid’s life terrible right now because of a college choice he made. Holy hell…just put that in perspective: adults are up in arms - in 2022 - about a teenager’s college choice…to throw a ball.

I don’t want to come across as holier than thou or part of the unnecessarily “woke” crew, but if you’re 48 and feel the need to post something that becomes nationally syndicated about a kid, take a serious moment to consider your priorities.

It’s a game. It’s not a big deal.

Good necessarily woke post...

Grown ups, or anyone for that matter, knocking a teenager for HIS personal, non-harmful, choices...because of the name on the jersey. That just never makes sense...

But as you say good on the OP to own and, hopefully, learn from the experience.

End of woke post ;)

(this whole 'wokism' thing is nuts...like giving a shit about the well-being of others is ever a bad thing.)

Legend has it that Coach Carr went absolutely berserker on Coach Mattison when he notified Coach Carr after the '96 regular season that Mattison was leaving Michigan to become Notre Dame's DC (lateral move) under Bob Davie.

This feels like the #Multiverse.

Agree.

I'm not Catholic, or even religious anymore, not Irish, have never liked them, and am a HUGE Michigan fan.  So, if Mike Spath really said it would be gross to not root for ND, I will no longer listen to anything that dimwit has to say.  As a non-Catholic, non-Irish Michigan fan, it would be gross to root for ND.

Good luck to CJ - I hope he has a great time in college and realizes (most) of his college dreams, just not the National Championship or beating Michigan ones.  I don't want ND to win a damn thing.  Honestly, I'd rather see Bama or UGA win it again instead of ND...

As someone who was raised Catholic but fell away from the church many years ago and was much happier for it, my two cents:

1. Fuck the Whining Irish and their Knute-Gipper-Four Horsemen-Rudy public relations bullshit that they've been shoveling for decades. Your university has a football team, and yes, there have been times when it's been very successful. But it wasn't anointed by heaven. Get the hell over yourselves.

2. My hopes for CJ Carr are the same as they would be for any other player who made the choice not to come to Michigan: I don't care. I don't wish him good luck, bad luck, or any luck in between. My concern and interest are with the 100+ players who wear Maize & Blue, and with those who made the decision to wear it in the future. I don't have time or energy to concern myself with those who don't.

And a third cent now that I think of it:

3. I don't kid myself into thinking that my opinion means anything to anyone but me.

I totally agree. One can accept that fact that a kid can choose where he wants to go to college. Of course, you shouldn't wish for injury or ill fortune to the young man. But I don't look at him any differently than any other player who goes to a rival of Michigan. He decided that the Michigan legacy aspect is irrelevant. So I will root against him just like I will root against CJ Stroud. It's not out of vindictiveness-- it's pragmatic.

The Carr decision to not sign up with Michigan is a good one on several levels. Among other things, both being a "legacy" and playing QB can bring added stress. Notre Dame is a fine school-it's his choice.

Good points.  Just speaking for myself, I relished the opportunity to go away to college in another state.  And it’s not like he’s going to play against us with OSU or MSU.  The teams won’t face each other outside of the CFP.  That said, I won’t be cheering for ND in this lifetime, regardless of whom they recruit.

I will play devil's-advocate here; he would be supported with many, many opportunities from the fanbase, alum and coaching staff at Michigan because of his connections and legacy ties.  At ND, he is another 4/5 star player who will not get the chances he would get at Michigan if he struggles because of the lack of connections.

Jim Harbaugh was given a 7th year to turn the program around after the program was going in the wrong direction because of his connections to the school.  Rich Rod was canned after 4 years when his teams were getting better each year.
