Change your mind ??? No way. There were 3 players who were the keys to to the National Championship above all others-- McCarthy, Corum, and Sainristil. Many other great players but they were the ones most indispensible IMO.

Not likely. His father is a very smart guy in the financial services industry with whom I've had dealings.

Well, I have just a few…

Well, I have just a few questions for you. Do you really have confidence that things can improve under Coach Howard ? Do you really think the heart surgery has materially impacted the results of this season ? Do you think that the various "incidents" -- at Wisconsin, with Mark Turgeon, and with his own S&C coach are acceptable ?

I agree that Juwan is a UM legend. I was 100% supportive of his hiring.  But I can't be even a little bit confident that things will get better under his leadership. Sometimes admitting a mistake or saying "I was wrong " are difficult. But, I was wrong and Warde should acknowledge same.

There is an iconic photo…

There is an iconic photo that was widely available for purchase of the Remy Hamilton kick in 1994. It was taken from the opposite end zone and you can actually spot the football as it is seemingly rises between the uprights. Jon Ritchie, whom I believe was from Mechanicsburg, Pa. is #40 blocking on the play. I can even identify myself in the background in what would be characterized as a "Where's Waldo" moment because I was in that end zone. Of course, I could barely watch and wasn't optimistic given our FG fortunes over the years against ND. As the ball rose toward the uprights, it was clear that it was both far enough-- 42 yards as I recall-- and was straight down the middle with no hook or slice. A pretty great moment for the Miaze and Blue.

Imo, Wilson made one of the 10 greatest receptions in Michigan football history with the leaping grab on Michigan's tying drive in regulation against Alabama. I'm hard pressed to think of a more important one given the importance of the game. Hope he has a great career and expect that to happen.

I have to say that, in a…

I have to say that, in a somewhat perverse way, I'm happy for Jake Thaw. He is a walk on and I believe the only play he was on the field for was that punt. It would have been awful for the young man to have been the "goat" by costing Michigan the game. He does deserve credit for: a) picking the ball up after muffing it, b) staying out of the end zone, and c) most importantly not fumbling when he was crushed at the one yard line.

You are spot on !! I…

You are spot on !! I absolutely do not subscribe to the notion that this was corruption. The referee got confused and made a mistake. But, as you say, he is insulting the intelligence of any fan with eyes and a brain by his post game comments when all evidence plus the comments of Goff, Decker, and Skipper belie his description.

It's hard for any partisan…

It's hard for any partisan to be completely objective. But what is irritating is the UT argument that awarding the Heisman to Charles was somehow a great injustice. Phat Phil basically acted like he never even heard of Woodson and expressed total shock that Manning didn't win. I thought Charles Woodson was one of the greatest difference makers in college football history and that Michigan absolutely doesn't go 12-0 without him. Peyton Manning was a fantastic player and had a great 4 year career, but the Heisman is supposed to be for performance in a singular year. Manning didn't get his team past Florida in 1997, and even though not relevant for 1997 was 0-4 against the Gators. Reasonable people can disagree and Manning would have been a worthy winner, as was Woodson, but this idea that this was somehow a miscarriage of justice is ridiculous.

I'm a U of Delaware and U of Michigan grad. Even though I spent 4 years at Uof D and only 2 at Michigan, I care much more about the Wolverines..... as my voice can attest after being in the stands Saturday.

I follow Delaware somewhat and my best friend is the color man for Delaware football and basketball. I'm surprised that Delaware would move up to FBS. They have been a large notch below the Dakota powers forever and are likely in for a major stomping this week in Missoula, Montana. Delaware's AD is a woman named Chrissy Rawak, who learned under the tutelage of Dave Brandon, at Michigan. I think she has delusions of grandeur.

I assume people know that Dave Nelson took the winged helmet from Michigan to Delaware when he became head coach and that Tubby Raymond, who won over 300 games at Delaware, was a Michigan man.

I hesitate to cite this play…

I hesitate to cite this play, but out

of respect for him, Daydrion Taylor's hit on Bob Stevenson of Penn State in the 1997 Judgement Day game at Beaver Stadium is one defensive play I will never forget. That was the most violent collision I have ever seen on a football field. Maybe the tone was already established in that game, but Taylor's hit left no doubt about Michigan's intentions on that day. Sadly, neither guy ever played football again, although Taylor has had a successful life from all I have read.

I have 2 degrees-- Delaware…

I have 2 degrees-- Delaware in 1972 ( yes, I'm getting up there in years) and Michigan in 1979. I've become more of a UM fan for many reasons, but I still follow the Blue Hens. My very good friend is the color man for Delaware radio broadcasts and he keeps me informed about the team. Delaware had a great win-- for them-- against Navy last year, but they were dominated by South Dakota State in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

I would really like them to give a strong performance against PSU, but doubt that's much of a possibility.

I have 2 degrees-- Delaware…

Dave Nelson - Coach in the 60s-- was a UM grad and "took" the winged helmet to Delaware. Tubby Raymond--  also a UM grad from Flint-- succeeded Nelson and was one of the winningest coaches in the subdivision in history. Tubby was the father of David Raymond-- the original Phillie Fanatic.

I'm not going to act…

I'm not going to act disappointed that Stroud is leaving. Their chances of winning next year in Ann Arbor were greater with him than without him. If we are being objective, Stroud was hardly the reason they have lost the last two against Michigan. He played well in both games. He made one mistake against UM on the pass that was intercepted by Upshaw this year. His performance against Georgia was borderline great, and if Ruggles makes the last FG the entire narrative on Stroud is different. ( Don't get me wrong, I jumped for joy when that FG was wide).

You are correct. There is no…

You are correct. There is no chance that Metellus was taking that potential interception about 90 yards the other way. It was a relatively easy catch that he would make most of the time. It very well could have been the turning point of the game because Michigan had a 2 score lead at the time and it would have--- at least temporarily-- kept OSU off the scoreboard.

The other turning point in that game was when JT Barrettt got injured. OSU was going nowhere with Barrett, and Michigan still led when he went out...... only to see Haskins come in and look like the most accurate passer ever. I doubt if Urban pulls Barrett if he isn't injured.

Obviously, my comments are pretty far afield from the original topic. Metellus had a very good career at Michigan and has been a good pro. The list of players at Michigan who have dropped receptions or interceptions is very long....... every receiver or DB who has ever worn the winged helmet.

I'm probably a bit more of a…

I'm probably a bit more of a pessimist that I should be/would like to be, but I'm thinking the worst case scenario is not a short suspension ( which would be ridiculous) but this functioning as a catalyst for Harbaugh's NFL departure. Hope I'm wrong.

I thought Michigan had to…

I thought Michigan had to kick the FG to get within one with about 31/2 minutes remaining.... because it was 4th and 11. I would say that UM's chance of converting on 4th and 11 was less than 10 %. The chance of stopping them on the ensuing drive with all 3 TOs remaining was pretty high although they did make it easier for Michigan by running on 1st and 2nd down and having it all come down to a 3rd and 7... which became a 3rd and 17 after the holding penalty.

Also, have to give credit to Gash for converting the 4th and 3 with a clutch grab... particularly after he had dropped an earlier easy catch. If he drops that one, the Illini are in kneel down mode.

I think this was a great win for Michigan. Winning without Corum( for the 2nd half), Edwards, Morris, Schoonmaker, and Keegan demonstrates a team toughness that is admirable. Yes, UM should be an underdog next week. And yes, it will be a tall task to win in Columbus. But, Michigan has better than a puncher's chance next week.

Brady may no longer be good…

Brady may no longer be good enough to carry a mediocre offense with no running game and a weak OL, but he is still a very good NFL QB at the age of 45. He was great in late game situations at Michigan almost a quarter century ago and he still has that ability. Usually the pass rush is a bit muted at the end of games as the defense is more fatigued, and Tom has enough time to make plays.

My personal opinion--- there is just as good a chance that TB decided to play in 2022 because his marriage was already in difficulty as there is that his going back to football caused the marriage to end.

I grew up as a Sixers fan…

I grew up as a Sixers fan who resented/hated the Celtics. One of my favorite early basketball joys was when the Sixers finally knocked off Boston in the 1966/67 season and then beat Rick Barry and the Warriors for the championship. In college I used to vigorously debate a friend from Maine who was a huge Celtics fan as to the relative merits of Wilt Chamberlain vs, Russell. My argument-- on behalf of Wilt-- was  primarily statistically based combined with the fact that Russell was surrounded by a better supporting cast. But, my case was really weakened , if not completely eviscerated, by the Celtics- Lakers finals in 1969. Wilt was on a team with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor and lost to a Celtics team that was about as "long in the tooth" as any NBA Champion.( Plus, Wilt took himself out of Game 7 with several minutes left and was not reinserted by Bill Van Breda Kolff for reasons somewhat mysterious.)

What I finally accepted was that Russell was THE consummate winner. I later heard him speak at the U of Delaware and he was very impressive. He was a man who took no nonsense but also had a sense of humor and got along with people of all races. He was a force for good in the world.

I totally agree. One can…

I totally agree. One can accept that fact that a kid can choose where he wants to go to college. Of course, you shouldn't wish for injury or ill fortune to the young man. But I don't look at him any differently than any other player who goes to a rival of Michigan. He decided that the Michigan legacy aspect is irrelevant. So I will root against him just like I will root against CJ Stroud. It's not out of vindictiveness-- it's pragmatic.

I can't agree more. Diabate…

I can't agree more. Diabate has difficulty catching a bounce pass. Even for a freshman, he was at best a decent player for his class. Does he have potential ? Yes. But it isn't all that certain to me that he will ever develop the skills and hands to be an NBA player.

If I were an NBA General…

If I were an NBA General Manager I wouldn't draft either Houstan or Diabata if the draft was 5 rounds. How can they or anyone think they are either NBA ready or have shown the potential to become NBA players in the next few years. Neither is any better than an average college player.... and that may be a generous assessment. I know all about the fact that the NBA teams draft on perceived potential but I just don't see it. Hope they improve and wish them the best even if they leave, but really ???

Michigan has had some very good PA announcers. In my opinion, Carl Grapentine is in a class all by himself. I have been to most (12) of the B10 football venues and there is not one who comes close to Grapentine in any way. His voice, his delivery, his class-- unmatched.

I was very fortunate to get to know Al fairly well due to a business relationship. He and his company were and are very successful but he might have been the most unassuming, least pretentious person with that level of achievement that I ever dealt with in my business career.

I had the chance to play 18 holes of golf with Greg Robinson, Frank Beckman, and a UM staffer, Ted Spencer at Jackson CC when Greg was DC at UM. He was very pleasant to be around for 4 hours and willing to answer any questions that I posed. Of course, I was respectful and mainly threw softball questions his way. May he RIP !!!

Joe Milton can undoubtedly throw a football further than Tom Brady ever could. Not a major determinant success at the position.
