Michigan Men's Basketball - STARTS TONIGHT!

Submitted by uofmchris2 on November 10th, 2021 at 2:25 PM

It's game day and not one single thread about our boys tipping off the season tonight against Buffalo.

Starting this thread as a pre-game discussion for those of us who want to chat some round ball.

Michigan is obviously the favorite, but the spread is dropping faster than flags against Michigan on the football field. Opened at I believe -18.5 and it's down to -12.5 as of a few minutes ago.

That said - Michigan comes out tonight and DOMINATES tonight.

Good guys by 20+

LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any idea what time the pre-game banner raising ceremony will be?  It's already tough making it from the northern Detroit 'burbs to Ann Arbor for a super early 6:30 tip-off, but I definitely don't wanna miss the ceremony!

Oh, and Michigan by 15 tonight.  GO BLUE!

During a U of M, U of Texas exchange in 1980, I was showing soon wonderful students from UT around the campus in Ann Arbor during an amazing day in July.  As we walked by the UGLI, we talked about great library systems and weather systems so we decided to answer this question at the UGLI.

"What is the percent of sunny days in Ann Arbor versus Austin?"  Of course the librarian walked us to the correct reference book in seconds (impressive) but results weren't impressive. IIRC it was Ann Arbor 15% sunny and Austin 15% cloudy.

Tonight's Prediction:

I get immense enjoyment from watching Michigan basketball for the first time in 7 months while I drink several beers since I don't have to work tomorrow. Thanks veterans!

Pretty pumped! I’ll be switching from this to the Pistons to see if there’s any Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green shenanigans as well. At least these games are staggered an hour.

I'll be there!

Looking forward to getting back in Crisler and to seeing all of the new players in person!  Really excited to see Diabate's athleticism and Houstan's shooting.

My only - very slight - concern going in to the year is three-point shooting.

I can't wait. Plus, my son is old enough now to where he gets excited about the games and appreciates the enjoyment of watching them. Truly great to be a Wolverines fan!

Im so excited for this season.  We lost plenty from last year, but this incoming class plus key seniors makes this team potentially very special.

The BIG Ten is tough again this year, but I think it is a little more top heavy than last year with a few teams that will take nightly beatings.

So I see this as a 4 tier league -

Top Tier

Michigan, Purdue, Illinois

2nd Tier

Ohio State (could be in the top but I want to see it first), Maryland, Sparty

3rd Tier

Indiana, Rutgers, Iowa, Wisconsin

4th Tier (cover your eyes, these guys are not going to be good)

Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Minnesota

Butcher the Buffalos!

Hope the rotation starts to take shape and the offense looks more together.  I watched the Wayne State game on poor-o-vision on my phone.  I had a hard time telling how cohesive the offense and defense were.

Trust in Juwan and the staff, though.

The announcers for OSU kept saying last night that they shouldn't be concerned that they needed a last second shot to beat Akron by a point because Akron is a good team and the 4th best team in the MAC, yadda, yadda, yadda.

So by that logic, we should probably have a parade thrown in our honor for beating Buffalo, right?  Whatever the case, the first game of the season almost always has a tendency to be ho-hum with mediocre shooting.  So if we follow the usual script, we probably won't pull away until the second half.  I hope people don't panic here too much.

When Mousa blocks a shot, I want the band to play the theme from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Not that I need another excuse to dance around the living room with finger antlers.

Juwan seems to play these games fairly close to the vest-evidently prefers to force his players to play in the face of adversity. He will likely substitute freely-causing continuity of play issues. Clearly Michigan should win this game but it might be uncomfortably  close.

Edit: Well, it looks as though there is no holding these youngins back!

Been thinking about it all day! I have tomorrow off for Veterans day which is even better. I should probably go get some free stuff but I think I'll avoid the crowds and stay home and play videogames!! Go blue!

Buffalo is very good. 3 MAC 1st teamers. Expect a fight. We will struggle to pull away and it will get interesting.

I'm the one that always ask about streaming. The TV channel is BTN but does that mean that I can watch it somewhere online? I thought there was something where it isn't available on BTN plus until the next day but to watch today we can find it streaming live somewhere like fox or abc?
