Michigan and Harbaugh- Please don't let the NCAA win!

Submitted by RealElonMusk on January 16th, 2024 at 5:25 PM

IMHO the NCAA is going after Harbaugh on these "violations" for 3 reasons:

1)   He is high profile and speaks his mind

2)   Harbaugh has plenty of other FBS football coaches who are jealous or don't like him-  particularly the whole shitty B10 other than maybe Ferentz

3)  Harbaugh has been outspoken about player rights and now is promoting revenue sharing which I'm sure the schools/NCAA don't love

The NCAA's goal was first to damage Michigan and Michigan's season which it failed at doing, their second goal is to get Harbaugh out of College Football/Michigan.

If Michigan and Harbaugh allow the NCAA to be the reason that Harbaugh doesn't sign a new contract then the NCAA will have won.  We should not let this happen.

Harbaugh is looking for Michigan to have some skin in the game on these bullshit violations.  Michigan can address this easily by defining cause very narrowly and then create a specific buyout if NCAA ban's Harbaugh for more than a season-  for instance, this scenario could trigger a specific buyout of 2 or 3 years salary.

This is a great opportunity for Michigan and Harbaugh to show that the NCAA will NOT be able to dictate to The University of Michigan who our coach will be.

The NCAA can suspend Harbaugh for a long time and there is fuckall that Michigan can actually do about it. Yes, they can appeal and fight and not “roll over” or whatever the hell chest beating they want to do. No, they cannot “ignore” the NCAA.

Harbs wants a guaranteed salary from Michigan even if the NCAA says he’s ineligible to coach. While at the same time making it clear that Michigan is just his backup option. That’s a shitty thing to do to Michigan, Jim.

The NCAA has (unfair) leverage over the University given the "show cause" requirement the University must comply with if NCAA decides to blackball Coach Harbaugh. If the NCAA sanctions Jim and UM does not terminate the contract, they come down on the University itself.  The NCAA is corrupt and this is an anti-trust violation on their part if they decide to come down on Harbaugh.

If Jim gets anything close to what he wants from an NFL team he is gone. I hope I am wrong, but I am not the only one who is thinking this way

Here’s the thing. Much as I and many others think that the infractions that we were cited for are stupid and outdated, they are still the rules that are in-force. We most definitely violated those rules.

Yes, the NCAA is corrupt and inconsistent in its application of sanctions for rules violations. However, to say that the NCAA is extorting us ignores the fact that our troubles were self-inflicted. I mean yes, on a certain level they are extorting us, but this wouldn’t happen if we just stop constantly trying to be martyrs for every cause to which they are opposed.

Instead we always publicly challenge their authority under the delusion that we will somehow prevail. Sometimes you just have to know when to shut up and quietly take your medicine. Either that or go about it the smart way and subvert the NCAA by first building some institutional support with other schools instead of taking them on as an army of one.

If the NCAA is out to get rid of Harbaugh, they will hit him with a multi-year show cause/suspension. If they truly want to get rid of him they can. I just don’t think that’s the case. I think they were just wanting to show they had some muscle and although Michigan as the original target, they switched up and penalized FSU after they started complaining. I think accomplished what they wanted to and that will be the end of it.

I thought Harbaugh would dip after all the bs he went though this season, but this post convinces me there is a reason for him to stay. his mere presence in college football is a gigantic fuck you to day, petitti and the NCAA. I have changed my tone. I hope he stays and delivers retribution on the "haters" every year. PUT THEM IN THE CAMEL CLUTCH MAKE THEM HUMBLE UNTIL THEY RESPECT THE JIM HARBAUGH BUBBA

RealElonMusk, I like your post and agree completely.

Don't blow it, Michigan admin.

Don't be weak in the face of NCAA BS smear tactics.

Don't be incompetent and fumble the ball 1 foot from entering the end zone for the win.
