MGoNOA - Michigan receives letter of notice for cheeseburgergate
December 20th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
Stapleton will continue to show his undying love for his university and football team by making sure the NCAA throws the book at Harbaugh. Because he wanted another coach, a coach who in hindsight maybe isn't all that good.
Which totally means that he should screw the current successful coach, and also the football program, at every possible opportunity, and especially right now in the middle of their most recent successful season. And in spite of this, he is good ol' buddies with Warde. You cannot make up this shit.
December 21st, 2023 at 6:27 PM ^
There are some real, interesting connections between Warde and Stapleton…
December 20th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
the NCAA could have dropped this any day. I'm sure it was just a coincidence it was dropped on NSD. I would wait until day 90 to respond.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
The only appropriate response is a large envelop filled with glitter.
December 20th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
Mark Rober Glitter Bomb would be awesome.
December 21st, 2023 at 12:34 AM ^
I love that. Spectacular.
December 20th, 2023 at 9:28 PM ^
Pay the fine in pennies.

"Content paywalled. Any chance of providing a brief summary instead of just a link?
"Any yes, I know you cant fix the original post but you can make a comment down here with us common folk who dont have a fancy digital access to that newspaper."
[It''d be easier to write "Ditto" than to cut & paste but not as much fun.]
December 20th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
Or, and stay with me on this one, imagine a timeline where I didnt read every comment made first but instead simply read the OP, clicked on the link and made my comment immediately after that.
You know, like about 15 other posters in this thread have done.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
to be fair, the vast, VAST majority of posts on literally any topic are not worth reading. or, frankly, sifting through. there lies madness.
December 20th, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
Game threads for sure are the worst.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
I'm sure once Pettiti gets past the paywall we'll learn this is the second biggest scandal in the history of the conference!
December 20th, 2023 at 3:24 PM ^
Totally coincidental that it was released on the day when many top players are deciding where to sign. Surely no bad faith on the part of the NCAA, as usual. /s
December 20th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Honestly seems like about the best day it could drop. Most people won't notice amid signing day fanfare
December 20th, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
I don't know how many are actually deciding today.
And I can't imagine if it had dropped yesterday everybody would have said, "yeah, that's fine — the day before early signing day is perfectly fine."
The conspiracy thinking around here gets more comical every day.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
Well, if they are so concerned about the sanctity of the sport, how about during the offseason? When they won't impact the actual games of the sport they claim to care so much about?
December 20th, 2023 at 6:29 PM ^
Cheating happens when you entice 5 stars to join your school with bags of cash. Typically if youve had top 3 classes for 15+ years youve got good at cheating. Thats just plain facts. To punish cheeseburger purchases on signing day is probably the most NCAA thing ive ever seen. If you think the shinning example of national cheaters day is just a coincidence you are not paying attention.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
PSA: you can put the url into archive.is to bypass a paywall...if you're into that sort of thing.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
thank you, dr. daft punk.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
Bringing Da Funk! Look at him doing his Homework!
December 20th, 2023 at 7:12 PM ^
I can read it. I am not a robot. I repeat: I am not a robot.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
i need to give it a read when I have more time, but a quick review leaves me wondering what the allegations actually are. Angelique says they received an NoA "regarding the NCAA investigation into 4 Level II's and a Level I...", but doesn't seem to specify what allegations are actually contained in the notice.
perhaps I just need to read more closely.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:33 PM ^
Didn't OSU once self-report like 130 level 2 and level 3 violations in a single offseason?
December 20th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
They reported 22 recruiting violations from Day's first season that amounted to 2 months of no recruiting for a few positions coaches.
They then reported an analyst doing on field coaching or extended practice times a few years later and imposed 30 minute reductions in team activities for like a month.
That's what this all is, nothing. But Harbaugh "lying" or "misleading" investigators is what has turned this into a problem.
December 20th, 2023 at 7:21 PM ^
And Harbaugh will never admit to lying, and I believe he didn’t. He should probably throw them a bone and cop to misleading tho. After all, there is no shame in that, when the charges and the rules themselves are so ridiculous. There should be a rule change that allows for 100 cheeseburgers per season. No, make that 1 million.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
Fuck the NCAA.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
Via Auerbach, NCAA's trying to hit Harbaugh with a level I violation for providing false or misleading information.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
Michigan should not be putting up with this. Especially in the current climate where players are just being bought off other teams. Say sure whatever to the Level II's and get lost with the Level I
Edit: Seems like we're at least trying to go down that route
...while Michigan has said it agreed to the Level II violations that also included texting a recruit outside the allowable time period, having analysts handling on-field coaching and coaches watching players work out via Zoom, Harbaugh has never agreed to the Level I — the NCAA’s most severe — allegation of lying to investigators.
Is it confirmed Dudek is the baby who sent all this in? Because that's quite the array of Level II violations. Sounds like someone was extra salty they got fired and just dumped everything they could think of that could possibly be a violation. What a loser
December 20th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Michigan saying f you to the ncaa has always seemed a more realistic option than doing it to the Big 10. The Big 10 and most other conferences are far more powerful/relevant than the ncaa. They're nearly irrelevant when it comes to football. Their only major trump card in terms of revenue sports is running the basketball tournaments, and that seems mostly an administrative role. I think the ncaa's request to go to tiered revenue sharing is a desperate attempt to maintain any relevance. IF Harbaugh decides to stay at Michigan, I would hope that part of his decision making is a commitment to blast the ncaa into bolivia. Not sure exactly how that would look, but I would be proud if he and the University of Michigan did everything in their power to put the ncaa out of its misery. In the process, it's not unrealistic to think that there might be collateral damage to the Big 10 and other conferences, that mgiht be welcome.
December 20th, 2023 at 6:13 PM ^
the way I read it, that was M's response when they received the 'draft' of the NoA back in January.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
NCAA Summary:
You drove 26 mph three head coaches ago in a 25 mph zone.
You decided to drive 25.5 mph in a 25 mph zone again a decade later (although we really can't prove it).
We have no choice but to put you in prison for 15 years. You might be eligible for parole in 12 with complete conformance.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:30 PM ^
Nice of you to omit the extenuating circumstances (your coach keeps going on TV and saying the police shouldn't be able to seize property from citizens with no due process)
December 20th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
Dear the NCAA,
In this time of uncertainty in our country, when simple acts have the potential to set off a chain reaction that could potentially end all of life, I have to ask you dear the NCAA,
Why will you not spit the balls out of your mouth? Why do you ingest a seemingly endless supply of diseases cocks?
Why do you suck in all the worst ways
I hate you the NCAA
That is all
December 20th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
summary: who the fuck cares.
Sue the NCAA out of existence.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
Michigan cares. And that's the problem.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
Warde cares.
December 20th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
probably Warde's idea to have it released on NSD. Wouldn't surprise me ....
Go Blue!
December 20th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
It just says they received it then 3/4 of the article is about the sign stuff.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
It has zero references to "the sign stuff..."
December 20th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
Nothing new in this article specific to how the NCAA deems that Harbaugh "lied or misled" investigators.
Unless they have interview notes or recordings of Harbaugh saying "I did not do X" I don't see how this is more than a he said/he said situation. Tressel got boned because the NCAA found emails of him talking to other people about tattoo-gate when he was telling the NCAA he didn't know anything the whole time.
December 20th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
I feel like I remember reading somewhere that Harbaugh’s responses to the NCAA’s questions were mostly along the lines of “I don’t recall” and “I’m not sure.” And then the NCAA found proof of something and they’re trying to get Harbaugh for lying/being uncooperative
December 20th, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
That's the story or theory but I'm not sure that's ever been actually stated by Michigan/Harbaugh because they can't really make comments about this whole thing.
December 20th, 2023 at 7:41 PM ^
Well yeah Harbaugh/Michigan aren’t going to be the ones to publicly say that, but that was the narrative from the insiders iirc. Which I would assume they’re getting from the right sources within the program.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:35 PM ^
The current status of NCAA enforcement
Players being tampered with and bought off other teams rosters for 6 and 7 figures

Jim Harbaugh took a few recruits out for dinner during a dead period.
REAL SHIT
December 20th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
It's the BurgerGate stuff basically.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
Have we received a NOA on sign decoding-gate yet?
December 20th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Nope. that's for the week of the national championship game.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
For all those complaining about the paywalled article, don't worry I'm sure Pete Thamel will have a full article up soon spining it to make Harbaugh look like history's greatest monster.
December 20th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
Don't forget about Pete Fartbomb piling on. You know, that dude that looks like a wart that's growing off a wart on toads ass.
