Meta: Is anyone else experiencing slowness on mgoblog mobile only?

Submitted by wardcrazy01894 on January 11th, 2022 at 1:33 PM

If you want a title abbreviation: M:IAEESOMMO? am I doing this right?

Anyways, if this is just a me issue I apologize for wasting everyone's time. If it's not just a me issue might be something to point out to some devs somewhere.

Any time I access mgoblog on my computer it loads up right away and works all hunky-dory, but when I access it from my phone it takes like 15 seconds to load. This happens regardless of if I'm on the same wifi as my computer, or cell service, or different wifi's. It's been this way for a few months. Wondering if there is some package in the website that doesn't work well for mobile or something.

Curious to see if this is happening for others as well.

If it matters, I'm on iOS and primarily use the chrome app as my mobile browser

Yes. I started noticing it about a week ago. When i navigate to the site it takes eons to open the landing page. I even thought about posting but figured it was my crappy internet

It’s been very slow loading for a while now on iOS for safari and chrome in my experience. Using a browser that blocks ads/tracking seems to alleviate that but believe it’s connected.

I have a new iPhone and use Safari for internet—MGoBlog loads in about 5 seconds in normal situations.

I wish I could get rid of the annoying and very weird interstitial ads that pop up constantly, but that's a different gripe.

The one right now shows the torso of some dude in his underwear pulling his waistband out and pointing down into his groinal area, with some bright red highlighting on his lower abdomen. There's a diseased-looking something in the right-hand corner that looks like a snail or a pile of dog shit or a dead liver.

I'm not giving up my Scotch.

Chrome on iPad has been brutal for quite a while now - but after you wait a while the whole thing loads instantly / at the same time.

Yeah that's what I see on iOS. Takes a long time to load the landing screen and it's just a blank screen while that's happening. And then it will all show up at once. And once it shows up it's pretty quick to go to the board and anything from there. Like it's a big one time load and then once everything is there it shows and everything from there is quick

Same. I'm not any type of expert, but seems like it needs to make an initial connection to the site, and then once that is done, it seems to work, so long as you don't switch to another app on the phone for 20 minutes and come back. It's been like this for me for the entire football season. It was OK for a few days somewhere in there a month or so ago, but been annoying since.

I agree with poster above about a paid version.

Similar for me on the iPad. Occasionally it won't load and eventually a "text only" version of the site finally appears--I think maybe after a certain delay it just loads the basics? Once that happens I can just hit the link for the homepage or the board and it loads immediately. No problem on my laptop.

Same issue for me on iOS, but for several months.  It seems to only have a slow initial load - then once i'm to the front page everything loads quickly / as expected after that.  I thought it was just my phone...

I was having this issue on iOS safari.  Then I went into the settings and into Safari, then delete history and website data. Then it loaded instantly. Something with this site that stores a ton of website data on your phone. Delete that and it fires right up.

This could be it. I was having the same issue on both Safari and chrome on my phone for a couple of months, then this weekend got an iPhone13 to replace my iPhone X and now it's loading lightening fast. Thought it might be the 5G, but could also be the crap from the old phone didn't transfer.

I agree with this.  I've found that on iOS safari, it takes forever to load when I'm logged into mgoblog but loads almost instantly if I'm not.  I'm no expert on the internets but my best guess is Brian is funneling our personal info to his secret Chief of Marketing Dave Brandon to optimize mgoprofits.

Having the same issues on Safari on my phone - but only when I'm already logged in. Seems to work just fine when I browse while logged out.

EDIT: Of course now that I say that, it loads slowly when I'm logged out too. However, I did just clear all cookies from Safari and the page loaded instantly.

Noticed a bit of slowness on the mobile, but mostly it's because there are double pop up ads, one each at the top and the bottom of the screen that take a while to load. Kind of a pain in the ass- both in terms of slow-loading and sheer functionality. Don't want to use an ad-blocker for the blog, but it is reducing how much I browse the blog on my phone.

Yes been going on for me for a few weeks.  I get a blank screen on mobile for several seconds then the entire thing seems to load completely right away.  It's annoying for sure.

Yeah, on iOS, Google Chrome. Taking 10-15 seconds to load the home page recently.  Have been using the fake app, which does not create a slowdown but also is outside of my habitual browsing routine, so I would venture to guess my visits are down since this started.

On my phone is the only place this site somewhat works. Whenever I load this website on my computer it takes about 5 minutes to refresh. This is the one and only website I have this problem with. I do not think it will change, unfortunately.

I use Firefox on desktop and mobile and the lag is very noticeable on mobile regardless of whether i'm on wifi or cell. It's often a full 3-5 seconds and sometimes more (just tried after deleting cookies, etc. and it was nearly 10s).

I’m glad you posted this and I upvoted you because I’ve had this problem for some time now and I thought my old phone had something to do with it.  I’m going to try some of the ideas and see if it helps.

I’ve also had this issue for at least a month.   iPhone 12 with both Chrome and Safari.   Clearing cache and cookies helps for a few days or so… then prob comes back.

Still having issue as of today.

no issues with desktop or iPad ever.
