Not a great trend that JJ's worst games have been with Sherrone Moore as head coach. Hopefully that is just a coincidence, not an indictment of the play calling.

Yeah that made that play even more frustrating.  Was begging for Moore to call PAP (we had second and 3 and he called two drop back deep shots, so it wasn’t even just “being conservative”), he finally does, it goes perfectly…and that.

Hopefully they will be more aggressive next week.  I’m willing to chalk up JJ’s misses (and to his credit, he had some big throws too) to just a bad game but I’m worried about Moore.

It’s impossible to make accurate judgments of Moore in this situation. A fundamental part of the structure of the team isn’t functional right now.

And in past years I’ve criticized Harbaugh’s influence on other QBs, it’s necessary to state that the influence he has on JJ, which is surely non-trivial, is missing.

Yep. It shows how valuable Harbaugh is to this team.

But I think the game plan will be different next week. JJ still made some nice throws today. I expect Moore to unload his playbook next week. And JJ will run for sure. Hope we get our tackle back.

It will be a tough game but I still give edge to UM because of what we have seen from Harbaugh's team from last two years in this game..

I'm happy with the win but McCarthy is regressing. We had the ball in plus 50 territory twice in the fourth quarter and couldn't even get a first down. Sherrone has been way too conservative, he has way too much on his plate we need Mike Hart next week.

Game plan is one thing.  Calling plays as the game develops, and you see what the opponent is doing on D is a completely different thing.  As with last week, the way Maryland was playing on 1st and 2nd downs (completely selling out to stop runs) was just begging for well-placed pass plays.  You have to react to the way your opponent plays D.  And you can't know that on Wednesday.

Regressing is overstating it imo.  The pick (and the throw before it) seemed to be him getting antsy, playing hero ball.  They have been able to rein that in when it matters.
The CJ play sucked, I do think he has a habit of putting too much on the ball when he’s late, but sometimes guys do miss.  To his credit he did make some big plays on 3rd and 4th down.  I’m more worried about Moore than JJ at this point.

Sherrone Moore tanked the offense.. he should not be head coaching. I could buy somewhat with his play calls for Penn State but not today.  Worse way to lose confidence and moxie with JJ before the Game.. The same strategy will not work for every game. This is his stubbornness to adapt.  Made the offense worse than before.  I am being very critical because we were gifted and not executing for this game.

Agree. I'd give a C- for the offense, and I'm probably being generous.  21 points scored against that lousy defense won't cut it.  No excuse for such conservative play calling when the game was on the line very late.  Yeah the pass blocking wasn't good, but there were a lot of other plays they could have called to spread out Maryland's D.  Why hold back when Maryland was less than a TD behind?

Not giving me warm and fuzzies going into next Saturday

Moore is hilarious.  "No swearing this week." he tells Jenny Taft.

But he really called a bad game.

They need to figure out a way to distribute tasks to others so he can think about only one thing--optimal play sequencing.

JH being out for sure hurt Michigan today.  So they need a better plan.

Listen Frank, don’t eat the yellow snow right there where the huskies go.

1000 wins, and we beat MD at their home after a draining away game last week.

We’re at home.  We recovered well after a near loss to Illinois last year right before The Game and we were down a huge part of our offensive fire power when Blake couldn’t go.

Next week is a different universe entirely.

Yea but Harbaugh was on the sideline.  I'm sure he has an influence on play calling aggressiveness. Moore is playing scared being HC. He also has play calling duties and oline.

Oline has not been the same as last year when he was co-oc. He has a lot on his plate and when you're Michigan o-line play is very important.
