This will be your thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the defense and defensive playcalling in our game against Maryland.

I was really excited that Maryland didn’t get into the end zone at the end. I’m a greedy son of a bitch and I hate it when garbage time touchdowns make the final score look worse. Good game from the d. Go Blue

Maryland seemed to have a lot of success when they just played it close to the vest, ran the ball a lot, and moved the chains.  Aside from one good downfield pass, they couldn’t seem to throw anything other than little swing passes.  Glad they tried to balance their offense by throwing more after awhile, because once they started that and got behind the chains they were doomed.

Technically they gave up zero points. As far as Don Brown is concerned his defense pitched a shutout.

They got gashed fairly easily early on, but they made adjustments and shut Maryland down accordingly. Improvements can be made, but I’m splitting hairs really.

you do know other teams have players too, right? that they practice all week and want success just like michigan. this team isnt a top 5 team, they   are what they are. 38-7 on the road, just enjoy for a couple weeks. michigan will destroy sparty.

Dude I literally complimented them on pitching a defensive shutout, and said that the one complaint I had was splitting hairs. DB made adjustments and shut Maryland down accordingly.

Not sure how anything I said can be construed as a truly negative response.

Watching Don Brown defenses is fun.  If he somehow schemes a way to apply sufficient friction to OSU, he can still grow into a legend.

When Maryland was getting 3-4 yards with ease a lot in the first half, all I could imagine was JK Dobbins rampaging on that same run D in a month. Hope we've got something a little better planned for OSU

What more can you say about the defense. They lost three uber talented players to the NFL and looked to be the side of the ball that would have some difficulty rebuilding. Instead it's the side of the ball that has just about everybody back that has been disappointing. It truly does tell you what a difference coaching can make. Don Brown and his guys get their guys hyped up and seem to put them in a position to win along with making them better as they get more experience. On the other hand you can really tell that at this point Gattis is struggling to get a handle on stringing plays together to sustain drives. Some guys just have a knack for thinking on their feet and knowing whats going to work in down and distance situations predicated on film study. Unfortunately right now one side of the ball has it and the other is struggling to try and get there.

Michigan gave up about 30 yards during the second and third quarters.  They looked a little uninspired at first, cleaned it up during the middle of the game, and then Maryland made the numbers look respectable in the 4th quarter against the backups.

Pretty good day for the D overall.

I thought that Locksley called a pretty good game in the first half by keeping the defense guessing, forcing us to defend the whole field, move defenders away from where the ball was going. I couldn't help but think that's a preview of what we will see from OSU with way better athletes.

I also feel like we've gone gradually moved away from the heavy disguised blitz looks we used to shut down Iowa. I suppose that's more a function of the kind of offenses we've faced recently, but I always miss those vintage Dr. Blitz performances.

This thread ostensibly about a defensive shut out is over 50% people bitching about how OSU is better than Maryland and will probably actually score points on offense.  This same board had a bunch of jackasses claiming that this Maryland game would be a tight one after Week 2.  My snowflake is that this board is hot trash.
