Good performance
i would have liked to see more subs used.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:55 PM ^
Yep, played first team to the end to keep stats up.
November 2nd, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
No they didn't. Multiple 2nd and 3rd string defenders played the later drives.
November 2nd, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
In the 3rd i would like to see them sub like Glasgow and or Mcgrone for a series and let the back ups get somewhat meaningful run.
November 3rd, 2019 at 2:53 AM ^
Jess Speight disagrees.

Defense pitched a shutout
Well done all around!
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
I'm glad that, at least for this game, the Michigan defense has given up what seems to be its tradition of giving up sad TD's
November 2nd, 2019 at 7:05 PM ^
Yes, good overall game. They bent a little and tightened up near the end zone. Nice game.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
Front got pushed a little bit early on. Coverage was great, pass rush was unfair. B+ performance
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:12 PM ^
I was really excited that Maryland didn’t get into the end zone at the end. I’m a greedy son of a bitch and I hate it when garbage time touchdowns make the final score look worse. Good game from the d. Go Blue
November 2nd, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
To be fair, Maryland would have had three more shots at the end zone if they’d used their timeouts. Locksley was content to play the game out without going all Sad James Franklin, and I tip my cap to him for that,.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:12 PM ^
That might have been the least impressive defensive shutout (sorta) I've seen. So mixed bag, I guess.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:12 PM ^
Shutout was nice.
Tackling needs some work.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
shutout. energy level seemed a bit subdued though
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
Pitched a road shut out except for kickoff return.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
Maryland seemed to have a lot of success when they just played it close to the vest, ran the ball a lot, and moved the chains. Aside from one good downfield pass, they couldn’t seem to throw anything other than little swing passes. Glad they tried to balance their offense by throwing more after awhile, because once they started that and got behind the chains they were doomed.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^
Not their best performance but nothing really to complain about when the other team scores zero offensive points.
November 2nd, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
It’s shocking how different this attitude on the board is compared to the offense (which scored 31 points in a game that was over early).
Defense - “a few struggles early, can’t argue with the results”
Offense - “OMG we are doomed against Indiana”
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:22 PM ^
"Bend don't break," I suppose. But a win's a win.
November 2nd, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
They punted on 8 of 10 possessions against our starting defense.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
Only OK on the road
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Technically they gave up zero points. As far as Don Brown is concerned his defense pitched a shutout.
They got gashed fairly easily early on, but they made adjustments and shut Maryland down accordingly. Improvements can be made, but I’m splitting hairs really.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
you do know other teams have players too, right? that they practice all week and want success just like michigan. this team isnt a top 5 team, they are what they are. 38-7 on the road, just enjoy for a couple weeks. michigan will destroy sparty.
November 2nd, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
Dude I literally complimented them on pitching a defensive shutout, and said that the one complaint I had was splitting hairs. DB made adjustments and shut Maryland down accordingly.
Not sure how anything I said can be construed as a truly negative response.
November 2nd, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
In answer to your last query, you've met the internet, right?
November 3rd, 2019 at 1:32 AM ^
Maryland was running the ball pretty well. They torpedoed their game when they started the second half with 3 straight pass plays that were no where near completions. One of the most bizarre coaching events of the day imo.
November 2nd, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
J Jackson's turtling under pressure helped our D a lot. Thought I was watching Matt Stafford. I don't think Justin Fields will do that.
November 2nd, 2019 at 4:56 PM ^
Not with having one of the best RBs in college football lining up next to him, and a slew of 5 star receivers.
Michigan will have to play it’s best game of the last 10-20 years to win this game.
November 2nd, 2019 at 5:53 PM ^
Stafford turtling underpressure? I'm pretty sure you haven't watched the Lions at all especially Matt Stafford.
November 2nd, 2019 at 6:17 PM ^
Last year's Matt Stafford
November 2nd, 2019 at 4:12 PM ^
Watching Don Brown defenses is fun. If he somehow schemes a way to apply sufficient friction to OSU, he can still grow into a legend.
November 2nd, 2019 at 7:14 PM ^
His mustache is legendary already!
November 2nd, 2019 at 5:00 PM ^
When Maryland was getting 3-4 yards with ease a lot in the first half, all I could imagine was JK Dobbins rampaging on that same run D in a month. Hope we've got something a little better planned for OSU
November 2nd, 2019 at 5:08 PM ^
Yes, Maryland's Oline got too good a push all day long for comfort. Our weakness at DT has not disappeared.
November 2nd, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
Did Ross get any PT? I didn't see him in there, wondering if a RS is a realistic option for him.
November 2nd, 2019 at 8:04 PM ^
I think we could technically hold him out until Ohio State and still have him redshirt. Would be my move.
November 2nd, 2019 at 8:25 PM ^
What more can you say about the defense. They lost three uber talented players to the NFL and looked to be the side of the ball that would have some difficulty rebuilding. Instead it's the side of the ball that has just about everybody back that has been disappointing. It truly does tell you what a difference coaching can make. Don Brown and his guys get their guys hyped up and seem to put them in a position to win along with making them better as they get more experience. On the other hand you can really tell that at this point Gattis is struggling to get a handle on stringing plays together to sustain drives. Some guys just have a knack for thinking on their feet and knowing whats going to work in down and distance situations predicated on film study. Unfortunately right now one side of the ball has it and the other is struggling to try and get there.
November 2nd, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
Give Don Brown a blank check and let him recruit whomever he the fuck wants
November 2nd, 2019 at 10:09 PM ^
We always seem to give up a lot of yards and TOP to teams with option spread QBs. At least D would bend but did not break!
November 2nd, 2019 at 10:34 PM ^
Michigan gave up about 30 yards during the second and third quarters. They looked a little uninspired at first, cleaned it up during the middle of the game, and then Maryland made the numbers look respectable in the 4th quarter against the backups.
November 2nd, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
Pretty good day for the D overall.
I thought that Locksley called a pretty good game in the first half by keeping the defense guessing, forcing us to defend the whole field, move defenders away from where the ball was going. I couldn't help but think that's a preview of what we will see from OSU with way better athletes.
I also feel like we've gone gradually moved away from the heavy disguised blitz looks we used to shut down Iowa. I suppose that's more a function of the kind of offenses we've faced recently, but I always miss those vintage Dr. Blitz performances.
November 3rd, 2019 at 1:24 AM ^
Good but so vulnerable to everything Ohio State runs, thats not going to be a fun afternoon if we can't get to Fields and hold Dobbins in check.
November 3rd, 2019 at 1:25 AM ^
Feels like we'll need to be +3 in turnovers to make up for the points OSU will get
November 3rd, 2019 at 2:45 AM ^
This thread ostensibly about a defensive shut out is over 50% people bitching about how OSU is better than Maryland and will probably actually score points on offense. This same board had a bunch of jackasses claiming that this Maryland game would be a tight one after Week 2. My snowflake is that this board is hot trash.
