Labor Day Friday College FOOTBALL (!!), BBQ, Beverage and Bonfire Thread

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on September 1st, 2023 at 5:27 PM

Mates,

It is Football Eve for our beloved Wolverines, and for College Football the games have broken out all over the place.   Tonight we have the Miami's playing one another and we even have our dear friends in EL playing CMU (Fire up Chips!!).

It is Friday of Labor Day weekend.  Feels like this is the end of summer weekend.  I note traffic up north has mercifully lessened and you all downstate types are apparently either staying home or heading to AA.

So let's get this started with the traditional:  What is on your BBQ/plate, what might be in your cup?  And do tell, what are the Labor Day plans?  Going to be in AA tomorrow?  Got a bonfire going?  Last days of summer vacation?

You're almost certainly watching football, so commentary on that is most definitely on-topic.  Let the season begin.  It is Football Eve and time to celebrate.

Will be missing some pieces tonight.

Starting center Nick Samac and running back Jaren Mangham are denoted as questionable in the list, which the Big Ten now mandates be posted two hours before game time.

The Spartans have eight players listed as out: linebackers Darius Snow, Ma’a Gaoteote and Harold Joiner; cornerback Semar Melvin, a Wisconsin transfer; offensive linemen Stanton Ramil and Gavin Broscious; and defensive tackles and Alex VanSumeren and Jarrett Jackson, a Florida State transfer

Staying hydrated with some Kettle One and lemon La Croix. Might switch to Gin and Ginger Ale in a bit. Both are refreshing summer drinks. The best thing about working from home is that I can have a drink while I'm finishing for the day.

Fire up Chips!

(Nephew just started at CMU. Hoping like hell everything goes well for him because he's a good little shit).

I live in a divided house (Sparty wife and son, daughter went the correct route), so watching and hoping the chips pull it off over Sparty.

Watching our boys and every other game tomorrow. Capping off Saturday with a bonfire.

Sunday heading to the beach in Holland and going to visit my grandma on Labor Day on the east side of the state.

Go Blue! Travel safely this weekend!

Brisket biscuits in the morning for the M game.  Hatch Green Chile smash burgers in the evening.  Then ribs on Sunday.
It’s been so rainy here this summer I’m trying to cram a lot of stuff in for this lovely weekend weather.

I’ll be on a beer/wine/coffee rotation for the next few days.

Taking our new Weber out for its maiden voyage tonight with some salmon filets. Will probably watch some football and baseball, assuming we can find the Cubs game somewhere. Tomorrow is college football all day. Sunday probably riding bikes along the lakefront and maybe a swim in good old Lake Michigan — it’s supposed to be in the 90’s. Hope you gents and ladies have a fine weekend and Go Blue!

I'm trolling the shit out of the MSU-CMU game thread on Reddit. Here's my post.

"I speak for the rest of r/CFB when I say FIRE UP CHIPS. There's too many MSU fans that didn't go to school there, they coast off of past success, they don't show enough respekt to their rivals, and they're just plain arrogant."

It ain't much, but it's honest work.

Meeting up with some old friends tonight since everyone is in town for a wedding tomorrow. Going to go eat some Mexican seafood, so I'm certain Montezuma will get his revenge in time to mess with all of us at the wedding.

Just got starlink today. Overall the download speed is half what we get with spectrum, but so far the signal is steady enough to stream without problems which is all we've ever really needed.

Caught the middle kid stealing money from me and his mom last night by buying vbucks with a linked credit card to the online account, so he got in trouble. Then lied this morning about having done it before (he did a few days ago too for the first time and I missed it) so he got his back door painted red. I hate corporal punishment, but it gets handed down with lying or stealing.

Man, August was a hell of a month. Have a great weekend XM!

keep me posted on the starlink

sorry about the kid issue, as you know very well, it comes with the parenting gig.  no doubt you judiciously utilized punishment.  and as proverbs says, 'he who hates his child, fails to discipline his child'.  you love your kids and they're great kids, but like everybody's, they ain't perfect.

Raised two sons, neither one of them even close to perfect and both capable of going (waaaaay) out of bounds during their younger years. Made a vow, at their births, to keep my hands to myself and discipline only with words and by withholding "parental incentives and approvals". Our limits were tested, in various unbelievably creative ways.  They KNEW CONSEQUENCES, with no doubts. Merde.

Mom and I have no regrets; worked very well for us.

Dad? Your words, approvals, and priveleges are powerful. As is your disapproval.

Hang in there, Dad.

Football weekend at last!  Not drinking tonight, but tomorrow I'll be enjoying whatever the bartender (KansasBlue) hands me while we watch East Carolina be sad.  Our Labor Day festivities will take place on Monday, with marinated pork chops for the grown-ups and burgers and dogs for the littles.  Probably be about 30 of us enjoying the last of summer weather (and maybe some leftover fireworks to celebrate that I finished chemo).

Headed to our little home away from home near Cadillac, Michigan ( unfortunately no peacock )  Philly's and other grill out food on the menu this weekend. Playing on the lake and enjoying the outdoors. Sneaking in a round of golf at  Eldorado golf course early in the AM. I'll catch the evening games after the kids wear down and enjoy some spotted cows.. Go blue

Busy move-in day here in Beantown. Thank God the tunnel reopened today. Daughter and I were so beat we just opted for room service. It was surprisingly delicious.

Now I'm watching Police Academy, because I can't bring myself to watch CMU vs MSU.

Though still, fire up, chips!

I smoked about half a joint before sitting down to watch this terrible MSU team struggle with Central Michigan. It's great. I am absolutely stoked for the return of college football, more so than I ever have in my football fandom life. Michigan's long awaited national title season begins tomorrow, folks.

Here's to football, the greatest sport known to man, and, more importantly, our Harbaugh led, 2023 Michigan Wolverines

Hey, they have the original "Silver Linings" song back on the B1G pop-up map commercial....

That makes me happy,  the other song sucked.

Kinda OT, but oh well....
