Kirk Herbstreit Is Dead to Me
Kirk Herbstreit just suggested that Michigan would duck OSU two weeks from now on ESPN's Top 25 countdown show. When Rece Davis gave him an opportunity to explain what evidence he had that that might be the case, he had nothing. Zippo. Nada. He only offered that some coaches around the country are 'throwing up the white flag' when faced with opponents they cannot beat. Looked like a wanker on a barstool in Keokuk, and sounded like one, as well.
Highly irresponsible, coming from someone who styles himself a journalist; from a former OSU player on whom the onus for sportsmanship and fair play remains--on might hope--particularly strong.
What's more the guy has gotten [edited: intellectually lazy] during his confinement, and badly needs to [edited: cut all ties with his loathsome alma mater]. Ought to be censured by ESPN.

I don’t see why it bothers you. I hope we do bow out. To me it just adds more fuel to the anticlimactic mess it’s been the last 2 years. Love to see them have to sit out the B1G championship game and see Indiana win one. This would just be a bigger indictment on our program and maybe we can move on from here. Also, don’t want to see Day “hang 100” on JH. You know they will be going for that.

Herbstreit aside, I cannot imagine Harbaugh playing a part in ducking the Game. As we've all heard, the man is legendarily competitive. I would think he was truly broken if he dodged OSU, but he won't do that. It would, as far as I can tell, go against every fiber of his being.

I agree. Cancel the Maryland game. Get fully healthy this week and then prepare for OSU. We can’t be ducking The Game. Play hard and do your best. That is the best lesson to be given to this team.

I will say, it's morbidly amusing when we sit here and joke about ducking OSU, even in the knowledge that, if conditions permit, that violence will take place. It is awkward and even a bit disturbing when Herbstreit talks about it as if it were a thing though. Fandom is weird like that.

Maybe he should have called out OSU for skipping the Illinois game when the AD said they could have played. Leads one to believe some key players were not available and didn’t want to risk it. I can't watch him any longer. His broadcast is so full of bias. I also cannot stand Galloway either who is incapable of commenting on OSU or UM without bias. When pushed Des tends to homer towards UM as well, but at least he can provide analysis and criticism when it's just. Same with Woodson. Griese seems unbiased. Laurenitis and Perry I've found good, but Herby & Galloway are unwatchable.

Like most, I’m off the Harbaugh train and it’s due mostly to his dispassionate approach sine November 2016. If he wants to remain and he wants to rally support from the UM base, this is his chance. If he chooses to not defend the honor of his team and his university now, he has truly capitulated.

I have always found Herbstreit to be fair and evenly balanced in his reporting. Sometimes he speaks before he thinks but so does everyone.
I think his apology is genuine and he didn't just say sorry if I offended anyone. He admitted he was wrong in what he said. He owned it.
For a Buckeye, he is not a douche like Galloway and some others.
Still, he replanted a seed that has been brought by others including Dabo.
And there are many here that have openly hoped for Michigan to not play OSU as well

Herbstreit may be a douche, but what happened with the IRS is not going to land him in Jail. He took a deduction that he was advised he could take, the IRS audited and ruled against him, he immediately paid the difference plus interest and fines and then sued after discovering the IRS was inconsistent in their treatment of said deduction. While Herbrstreit was 100% responsible for anything on his tax return that is inaccurate, the IRS does not throw people in jail for it if you pay it back plus time lapsed interest plus a fine, even if you had to work out a payment plan (with interest), in this case it looks like it was paid the day of them notifying him. If anything, I would guess the IRS had an investigation started if that fire house was falsely claiming you could do this activity as a deduction.
Capone didn't report millions of dollars of income anywhere, Herbstreit said I took a deduction for this specific reason and that reason wasn't valid. Apples and Oranges.

I thought it was the hiring of Les Miles that he ruined. I believe Harbaugh had come out before then and said he was not interested in the job which was after he kind of bashed their academic standards. I had heard Les Miles was going to be the coach until Herbstreit came out premature which Les wanted to keep quite so he could coach LSU in the title game. I might be misremembering though.

He said that he is hearing these comments from coaches, (these comments have been confirmed by others) and that Michigan could potentially do the same. All of that is accurate.
The measure of good or accurate reporting or commentary is NOT whether or not you like it.
