So damaging that we nearly…

So damaging that we nearly lost a game this year.

I get that this is a stomach wrenching part of the season, but given the like 7 year nature of this, and that we've continually gotten better the past 3 where this has been THE topic in January, I'm doubting is has the negative effect that is claimed.   Maybe like Jim when he recruits he lets them know this will always be part of it?  And he'll support them when they look too?   Kind of just like recruits say that he does.

Michigan's offense is based…

Michigan's offense is based on the run game, and 75% of their pass plays incorporate that the defense needs to honor that.    Additionally, those quick releases are nearly all arm and typically that means that if there is the slightest disruption going on with that release, the accuracy suffers in incredible ways.   The more traditional throwing motion that involves the legs is going to typically give you more accuracy throw after throw and game after game.   Marino is the only QB I can think of that really didn't have those accuracy issues with that type of motion.

Except that it was 4th and…

Except that it was 4th and 13 and was thrown to nobody on Washington.   If he doesn't make the INT, the game is still over as Michigan gets the ball back.

Will Johnson shut down an NFL receiver, so probably had the more impressive game of what doesn't get shown AND had the play of the game defensively.  It was the first play of the 2nd half where Michigan quite honestly had given up all of its momentum in the 2nd quarter by then.   They both had great games, and Michigan may have needed both of them to win, but I think WJ's play was correctly identified.

Whlie I'm 100% on board with…

Whlie I'm 100% on board with that this was not a team sponsored event, to question how a $55k employee owns a home seemingly beyond his means is not like the absolute most horrid thing ever to dive into.

As far as his safety, it is actually public record, so it would have to be the addition of a *really lazy* nutcase that wants to harm him that has caused your concern to go up for his well being.

Engggh, more like the club…

Engggh, more like the club knew he was better at legally stealing signs better than maybe anybody should be, and didn't really want to know why he was so good.

Love hockey analysts that…

Love hockey analysts that forget that you can touch up after the puck crosses

While they MAY charge for it…

While they MAY charge for it,  it won't be for server side costs.   They need to aggregate the feeds once , or possibly once per major distribution centers,  depending on how their topology is, compared to the million of subscribers they can then send it out

They may decide to charge because nearly 100% of their revenues go to the content providers.   However, they are still in a mode of trying to gain market share, and I suspect they will give this away for free.  Especially given it is useful for the first few days of the tournament

My guess is this is really the beta/first step in providing similar function for Sunday ticket.   With probably some optionality there too.   Direct/ATT provided this for streaming,  but it was aggregated client side and was problematic.  My guess is they are going to go for significant WOW with it moving to them and offering a significantly better experience than direct to attract a larger audience

I don't think them being…

I don't think them being grounded from sports ball is enough,  but the only reason the county may be looked at weird for pleading down is because a bunch of sports ball fans who have never paid attention that pleading down nearly always happens will be  outraged that it happened this time.    If you want them to be treated like it happened in a bar with non athletes,  you are looking at it.

Agree 100%, also I disagree…

Agree 100%, also I disagree that only a pass the size of a bucket gets a completion there.  Turner is beat, and early, and the WR slows down to the pass.   While the pass was great as it is a 50 yard completion, and maybe is the best pass because you don't want to over throw there.   But a bit longer pass exposes that Turner was significantly beat.

All that being said.   The team is better than I think any of us were expecting going into the year.

I think the road layout is…

I think the road layout is even more a reason to not drive.   Also, parking was never brought up, I think it is very hard to come by, and if you are an ace an parallel parking with 1 inch clearing on either side have at it.   If walking is debatable, I think the message still need to be be don't rent a car.   Walk and or taxi/uber.  Personally, Boston is my #1 US City to not rent a car in -- I love going there however.

I'm not sure if he punched…

I'm not sure if he punched him or tried to grab the the dude.   It doesn't look good.   I'm assuming he'll be suspended for a while.

He didn't say he was looking…

He didn't say he was looking for a raise either, but we are all allowed to hazard a guess.   With "the last couple of weeks" timeframe, MY guess is he felt like if Harbaugh was gone the administration wasn't too high on his being the next HC and didn't like that.   I would have preferred a better written and classier exit, however truth be told I've never been very happy for lateral moves away from Michigan.  (fwiw, I don't see Mike Macdonald as a lateral)

I'm also of the opinion that while Gattis has a lot going for him, there was A TON of collaboration between Gatis and Harbs regarding this offense.   It benefitted each of them, and it benefitted the team, and I'm less concerned with the OC leaving this team than the DC.  That being said, Successful teams tend to not hold on to their coordinators indefinitely.

Except he isn't your…

Except he isn't your girlfriend.  You can *LOVE* your job, but it is still a job.  And if you don't occasionally see what is out there for your job, then you are doing yourself a disservice.  Jim isn't sleeping with any of us, he doesn't owe the fanbase some weird fidelity thing.

Let's stop pretending that any of us were fucking Jim Harbaugh and he pulled some major violation of trust.  He told RECRUITS he was doing this and the recruits still signed.   Lets acknowledge that these future players will actually have a non imaginary relationship with Harbaugh and they didn't feel like he violated some oath with them.

Regardless of what you think…

Regardless of what you think of his seasons here, assuming he leaves, he has left the program in better shape than when he started, and I think people forget just how bad things have gotten.  Who is the last coach that left it in better shape?   Didn't live up to the hope we all had, but overall I will be happy he was here.

I remember that too.  He…

I remember that too.  He called Fargas a "mudder", as in he may have been surprisingly better RB in the mud than in good weather.

Aurelio's Thin Sausage Pizza…

Aurelio's Thin Sausage Pizza is the best pizza in the Universe.  Homewood location is my fave.

Last straw for you, and you…

Last straw for you, and you throw business to the party that caused the mess?  Cool

Every company goes through…

Every company goes through this, other isn't any better worse than yttv, just isn't their time in the negotiating cycle.  Understand that yttv is paying Disney approx that 15 a month right now and don't want to go more.   They will "lose money from losing subs", but understand they don't make 15 a month from each sub, not even close.  Disney absolutely feels more of the pain from this monetarily, short term, probably close to 15 per yttv sub per month.  It's a game of chicken.  In this case if you want to keep rates is all carriers long term, don't switch during this dispute.

Also, don't think for a second Disney didn't use this as a squeeze to get people over to their vested interest which is Hulu.   If you must switch, don't reward Disney but switching to there.

In the Shoe 1992.

Literally…

In the Shoe 1992.

Literally got refused service at the concession stand for wearing Michigan colors.  Thought she was joking at first, at some point it was clear she wasn't joking.

Also, I was near the front row of the closed end of the shoe that year.  Saw a member of the MMB with a welt on her face and could see her saying to her bandmates that someone from the stands hit her.   I personally did not personally see it happen, don't know if it was a punch or something thrown at her, but yeah, it was very classy.

Great time for Michigan…

Great time for Michigan Athletics!

you run to the 10 yard line…

you run to the 10 yard line you get 0 points.

If you run to the 5 yard line you get 0 points

If you run to the 1 yard line you get 0 points

If you run it all the way to the endzone and you get 6 points? What?

How about we acknowledge the endzone is special, and rules applying to the endzone being special are ok

I agree with a lot of what…

I agree with a lot of what you said, but there are PLENTY of bad seats in Memorial stadium.

* If you are lower sidelines, the first 10 rows have very tough visibility.  because row 1 is at ground level, and the stairs are not steep so takes a long time to correct itself.

* If you are in the top 5 rows of the lower sections there is an overhang that actually gets quite low and is at best quite distracting

*  If you are in the high corners of the south endzone seats, you will not have full visibility into the coorner of the endzone,  this is typically not horrible, but you could miss a pass play in your corner of the endzone.

The fans are nice, they may actually make too much of a point to tell you how nice they are, but overall you'll have a good time.

I'm not saying the passing…

I'm not saying the passing game isn't a big concern.  But this idea that Michigan "refused" to keep trying on the passing game -- while literally true -- is a bad take.   The passing game wasn't working.  It was like awful.  We had I think 1 play account for nearly all of the yards, and everything else was incomplete or negative, or close.

Just as we have all been frustrated when we run into the line again and again and again when the running game isn't working, we should recognize this would be the same in reverse if we kept trying.   The game wasn't out of hand until very very late, and it really wasn't the time to try to work out the kinks.  The running game numbers weren't just because of 1 or 2 big plays, it was a dominant thing.  I said to the person next to me early in the 2nd.  "Michigan shouldn't call a pass the rest of the game".   The receivers weren't open, it was pretty bad.   Not a great sign for the season, but it was the right in-game call.  100%.

I think people really…

I think people really misunderstand bonus in this context.  There are bonuses for like for Sales people for a specific dollar amount of sales where a bonus is absolutely motivation.   Then there is a bonus for leadership positions a company where it is more understanding what your salary is.  It isn't meant as a oh, I'm going to coach/work harder today, it is that your salary will be X it is "I'm worth salary+bonus to the company if the company as a whole does well, but there is an understanding that my salary is based on the the whole of how the company this year".   It is very common for directors and above of companies to have this as part of their compensation package and it is NOT a daily incentive bonus per se.

Additionally, while bonus is taxed exactly income at the end of the tax year, an employer withholds less initially when given out (usually in the beginning of the year) and you have ways as receiver of the bonus to have that work to your advantage for 12 months.    In this case he'd be in the 37% federal tax margin, and only have 22% paid of his bonus.  He'd have 15% of that bonus that is owed where he can put that money in some type of action, and his financial advisor would do exactly that.    Also, for companies a bonus can be compensation that is hedged against what they are on the hook for in cases of terminations.

No, he's not going to "work harder" every day because of the bonus, but the idea that it wasn't incentivizing for him to sign on with the possibility of having years to earn 20% more if the team does well  is redonk.   There is no salary you earn where possibly getting 20% more is not appealing.  And the fact it is incentivizing means he does believe there will be years where this comes into play which we should be happy about.

Got news for you, while I…

Got news for you, while I don't doubt for a second that there is a Music Appreciation class, no way is that class stacked with Music Majors.   Any "appreciation" class in any subject tends to be and intro/fun and yes, relatively easy class and not intended for people that are majoring in that area.   At Michigan, that class would neither count towards the degree or even the elective distribution and have no reason to think that Northwestern would be any different.

I was in Michigan's Music School and transferred into Engineering where I ultimately got my degree.  Engineering was easier (for me at least).   Nearly all the credit hours for the classes in the music school are 2 and you need to carry about 17 a term.  Written Music theory is math, it may not be "tough" but it requires studying, exactly like Calc.  I'm not really sure there is an equivalent to Aural Music theory.

For me, I came to the conclusion I was working very hard for something where I didn't see it landing me a spot in a major Symphony (ie.  I wasn't a good enough player), so I made a financially motivated move, but this premise that a Music degree is an easy degree is mistaken.

Herbstreit may be a douche,…

Herbstreit may be a douche, but what happened with the IRS is not going to land him in Jail.   He took a deduction that he was advised he could take, the IRS audited and ruled against him, he immediately paid the difference plus interest and fines and then sued after discovering the IRS was inconsistent in their treatment of said deduction.  While Herbrstreit was 100% responsible for anything on his tax return that is inaccurate, the IRS does not throw people in jail for it if you pay it back plus time lapsed interest plus a fine, even if you had to work out a payment plan (with interest), in this case it looks like it was paid the day of them notifying him.   If anything, I would guess the IRS had an investigation started if that fire house was falsely claiming you could do this activity as a deduction.

Capone didn't report millions of dollars of income anywhere, Herbstreit said I took a deduction for this specific reason and that reason wasn't valid.  Apples and Oranges.

I was at that game, I got…

I was at that game, I got refused service at a concession stand because I was wearing Michigan colors, and I saw a girl in the Michigan Marching Band get punched by a dude that leaned over and just took a wild swing at the band walking by and hit her in the face.   Like, I wish we had a more intimidating atmosphere and all, but that shit is ridiculous.

What qb didn't have good…

What qb didn't have good footwork in college to the average observer that then amazingly improved,  or didn't still cause an issue layer on?  If Milton doesnt have good footwork in his 3rd year in college,  it means he won't.

(I think Dan Marino and Ben rothensbuger are like to the exceptions to great qbs with not good foot work)

But Nebraska didn't do…

But Nebraska didn't do everything right, they could have gone to the league to explore the leagues willingness to do this before making it public.   They absolutely knew the answer was going to be no and made this story public so that everybody in Nebraska would concentrate more on "How much the B1G has it out for them" opposed to how much the Nebraska has let their program decline.

Nothing about him not being…

Nothing about him not being an analyst on Fox prevents that.

I'm still slightly…

I'm still slightly disappointed that this wasn't a Muppets game:

road win against ranked team in the season opener.  Let's not pretend any combination of 2 of those 3 things isn't rare,  let alone all 3.

Also,  I think that we got to watch a game this year at all is pretty Muppet worthy.

In 1997, a real Michigan fan…

In 1997, a real Michigan fan is would say "Why is ESPN Classic showing the 1990 Michigan @ ND Game?.  WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SHOW US LOSING!?"

1.  It's currently the most…

1.  It's currently the most expensive deal for college sports....and its for UCLA

2.  UA pays that to the UCLA so that people can see the teams play in their stuff.  And advertisements in stadiums, programs, sales booth in select areas, backdrops for press conferences, etc.

3.  Nobody's out there playing

4.  UA is probably having other COVID-19 challenges.

So, I'm sure there is something in there that if UCLA isn't fielding teams for whatever reason, they have some action they can take.   If UA has buyer's remorse on the original deal, they'll try to use this as an out.   If both parties were happy with the deal, they'd work this year amicably.  If UCLA had remorse, they would tell UA to pay them for this year or "do what they have to do" to get out of the contract (I think this last one is currently unlikely).

Sure, $20M/year in expense  a year isn't going to make/break UA, but their revenue challenges must be massive.  And while $20M expense isn't going to save you, it is probably one of the larger, less impactful things to go after in order to get to that larger number you need to hit, there not just one singular thing you can do in these situations.

I seriously wish him the…

I seriously wish him the best but I will not miss him.  Trying to come back against OSU, and you do a lazy out of bounds instead of fighting for an extra yard on 3rd down?  Complete unawareness and not trying in what is supposed to be a big game.  Yes, we still way more than likely lose that game, but it was redonk.   I too miss the Tarik Black of his first 2 games of Freshman year.   But it was clear that the Tarik Black we wanted wasn't coming back even if he came back.  He got passed by people, either because of too many injuries or got outworked, or both.  It sucks, but I had no belief he was due for a breakout year.

All this talk of cord…

All this talk of cord cutting, but the major players in live tv streaming are learning they *have* to bundle in order to make it attractive enough to get the share.   The constant comments about BTN being short sighted is not a definite as once thought.

I've had it, and I found the…

I've had it, and I found the best way to deal is to joke about it.  I found it funny and even joked with my friends that "I must have gotten the other colitis" because of how impressive he played.   It's a funny joke because it's clearly not something anybody wants to get and it is calling out how well he played despite having something very, very serious.  Turning it on it's ear and saying that is the reason why he played well instead of despite it, is funny.    I don't get not being able to laugh about something that has happened to you.   And to bring up cancer, I've had friends die of cancer, and they used humor about it all the way until they couldn't fight the fight.    So, hopefully, we can all take ourselves a bit less serious, and let stuff be funny.

I'm pretty sure we won the conference tournament last year.   And we did the autobid because of it.  Every team he listed in his football scenario where conference champs because of the results of the conference title game (tournament)

I thought the same thing.  I think 74 yards is significant.  They are currently 73rd in Total Defense.   74 less yards and they are a top 25 defense.  That is massive.

Or MAYBE he had a heart to…

Or MAYBE he had a heart to heart conversation with the coaches and they didn't see it happening for him, and he is leaving now so that there doesn't appear to be a logjam of players at the spot to help out with future recruiting.   Maybe it is the most selfless and team-oriented thing ever.

Truth is, not one of us knows, and it is super easy for any one of us to tell ourselves a story that helps fill some narrative.

Maybe we just wish him well.

The dude was obviously making a joke, took it down as soon as he realized just how many derps there are in the world that neither get sarcasm nor humor

Maybe one day the coaching…

Maybe one day the coaching staff will stop their laziness of trying to do the absolute best they can and instead post to message boards.

You could argue results, strategy, and other things on this board, but I'm fairly certain that you are insane if call this staff lazy

While the content of the…

While the content of the post is bad, maybe "somebody who is already banned is now threatening to leave" isn't going to sound the alarm.

Not onboard with the above…

Not onboard with the above plan, but yes the service is great.   I have a Chromecast ultra and sports channels come in great.  No hint of lag/buffering, etc.

A few problems with your…

A few problems with your idea.

* Though you are allowed 5 accounts, only 3 streams are allowed at a time.  They assume that the family will actually occasionally watch things together.  A Michigan game on BTN may be a problem for all five people

* location services are required to be enabled, and YoutubeTV states that if the family accounts aren't regularly making a presence at home base, the account will be disabled

* good lord, it is $40 a month. It is a swinging deal.  Please stop trying to figure out a way to steal $32 of this back and make it more expensive for people who aren't stealing
