Josh Metellus Voted New Vikings Captain

Vikings fan here. Their right tackle and Captain, Brian O’Neill went down with a season ending injury. Josh Metellus was voted as his replacement. He doesn’t get much run with the first team but is one of their best special teams players. Pretty sweet honor for the young fella.

You never know. You can’t put a star value on heart. Or great football sense. Metellus was a bit slow and a bit undersized and when he got to Ann Arbor looked like he belonged on Georgia Southern. Now he’s looking at a long NFL career as an ace special teamer and at least a backup safety. And a leader in the locker room. Good for him. Proud to call him a Wolverine.

Wow great honor!

I will never forget his dropped pick 6 vs OSU.  Right in the bread basket. Harbaugh could easily have 2 more wins vs OSU.

Wait, so if Metellus doesn't drop that interception Harbaugh gets two more wins? :)

Never mind 2016.

The Metellus play happened in the second quarter. OSU was deep in Michigan territory and there wasn't a clear "pick six" opportunity. There's no guarantee that Michigan would have scored even if Josh hadn't dropped the ball. OSU's touchdown on the next play is an independent event.

It's amazing to me how much single plays color judgments of entire careers.

You are correct. There is no chance that Metellus was taking that potential interception about 90 yards the other way. It was a relatively easy catch that he would make most of the time. It very well could have been the turning point of the game because Michigan had a 2 score lead at the time and it would have--- at least temporarily-- kept OSU off the scoreboard.

The other turning point in that game was when JT Barrettt got injured. OSU was going nowhere with Barrett, and Michigan still led when he went out...... only to see Haskins come in and look like the most accurate passer ever. I doubt if Urban pulls Barrett if he isn't injured.

Obviously, my comments are pretty far afield from the original topic. Metellus had a very good career at Michigan and has been a good pro. The list of players at Michigan who have dropped receptions or interceptions is very long....... every receiver or DB who has ever worn the winged helmet.

When I saw a thread about Metellus, I knew some asshole would bring this up.

1.) He was likely not going to score, he was at a dead stop, not in stride towards the endzone like the vast majority of pick 6's

2.) That game was at least 99% lost due to QB play

3.) Quit being an asshole and focusing on one missed play on a multi year starter's career

Last year he looked like a liability outside of special teams, this year he's been fantastic and has earned his primary back up role. With Harrison Smith getting up there in age (and cap hit), he has a very real shot to start soon. Very cool to see!

I was curious and looked up how many current NFL players we have a long with msu and OSU.    OSU is ahed of us by approx 20 and we are ahead of MSU by approx 20.  Surprised how few MSU has active.
