I don’t feel like anyone should be on twitter doing anything ever
Twitter had a bad name, to they called it X. XXX may be more appropriate in some cases.
The type of coach who’s goes at fans about things said about them on social media is the type of coach I don’t want my sons around
You should foolish. In this and age, you can't just let folks say what they want on social media because idiots take it as truth.
in this day and age, one shouldn't think that refuting every perceived slight or falsehood on the internet is A) productive, or B) any kind of a good idea. There will always be stupid people who think stupid things, no matter how many hours you spend banging away at your keyboard.
Gattis should know this by now, but his actions indicate otherwise.
Worthy's mom once thought the same thing. Then she met Josh...
Or mom around
I mean, a lot of Michigan Twitter is obnoxious shit talking so you'd think Gattis would be above engaging, but he's also incredibly messy and so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Anyway, it was a dumb story at the time but it is funny how many people freaked out that UM lost Worthy due to obvious tampering and instead blamed the OC they didn't really like for having sex with a guy's mom with some, um, weird overtones and assumptions.
Wasn't Worthy the one that tried to do his entire senior year of HS online in one semester, and Michigan said he wouldn't be admitted in January, only in June if he took another semester of high school, and he wasn't interested in that plan?
Yea, I don't think we lost Worthy totally due to tampering. Our admissions and Matty Dudek (I think?) messed up big time and screwed the kid over after promises were made that he could early enroll.
If that's correct about him, I wouldn't say admissions did anything wrong. They offered him a path to enrolling here. Worthy just had different priorities.
Why not both!
I mean, I don't think he was interested in waiting until June but had Texas not poked around my guess is he'd have gone along with it. I'm not blaming admissions fully but lots of guys want to enroll early and usually schools figure stuff out or the kid just waits. But Sark was always going after him; UM had to fight Alabama (where Sark was) during his regular recruitment, and then mere days after announcing his intentions to get a release from his NLI he signed with Texas (where Sark was). I don't particularly care about a guy wanting to leave if he doesn't want to be there but that wasn't some fluke accident.
I never understood the shotgun wedding of Jim Harbaugh and Josh Gattis. They knew each other for what, 48 hours?
Do you remember Tim Drevno?
It was always based on the idea, pervasive in a lot of fanbases, that you need to look like the teams that win a bunch of games to win a bunch of games. So on offense people hated UM's rush-heavy offense and wanted more "speed in space", a term that is like "gourmet" in that it means whatever you want it to be. UM's struggles running the ball early on with Harbaugh was mostly because Hoke and co. hadn't recruited well along the offensive line and so it took years to sort that out. But once it did they had a perfectly effective offense and whatever Gattis did to it really wasn't that innovative anymore.
He got his Broyles award and continues to be paid well but I never really loved the Gattis offense and thought the parts that worked best (late in 2020 you saw Haskins start to emerge) were the parts he had the least to do with. I think he's a middling OC but yeah, the marriage never made any sense stylistically.
I'd argue that Haskins started to emerge in 2019 (i.e., look at the Notre Dame game and a couple others) but agree that Gattis didn't have much to do with that.
Calling Gattis a middling OC is very generous, he has a long track record of being objectively bad.
And get Gattis managed to win the highest award possible for an assistant coach while under Harbaugh, and is still somehow bitter about it.
Like, Harbaugh gave you the most successful year of your career and is thanked with bunches of sour grapes.
Gattis just comes off as a fool and his career is in free fall.
Guy appears to be an idiot. Take the Broyles award and shut your mouth. Every time he makes a public statement people are reminded that he was the weak link. He's lucky Mike Locksley doesn't hold a grudge.
What a story. Walter Cronkite is probably disappointed he missed out on this one.
Just looks like he's trying to insinuate himself into Michigan's success.
agree 100
This was my first thought without knowing the context. Even knowing the context I think that's still part of it.
"So why'd you pipe Worthy's mom?" as a reply had me gut-laughing. You know Gattis is reading all of those and getting mad. What a weird dude. Touch grass and have some self-respect to not get your feelings hurt over randos on Twitter, Josh.
Josh Gattis banged the mom of the fastest 40 yard dash runner in combine history! There's a speed in space joke in here somewhere, someone deliver !
Are you saying Josh Gattis should coach for UMass?
Are you saying Josh Gattis should coach for UMass?
He has every right to fight against a rumor that he hooked up with a recruits mother. Y'all just be ok with folks saying anything and it not being addressed.
Yeah but when you do it like this it makes it seem like there’s fire to all that smoke…
How else is he supposed to do it. The method shouldn't be the issue and typically folks attack the method when they can't attack or discredit the substance.
It’s simple live your life and don’t respond to trolls on the internet and certainly don’t bring up 3rd parties like your ex employer. Getting this defensive is weak minded
the best way for gattis to handle it would be to not give it any oxygen. instead he's feeding the fire.
this is the modern narrative in this country. ex if you are a reproductive rights proponent, no matter why or in what manner you support it, you hate children. if you claim not to be sexist, you are sexist. if you claim not to be racist, you are racist. engaging those who attack you is an admission of guilt. freedom of speech, a general presumption of innocence rooted in the ideals behind our criminal justice system--dying American traditions. good times.
Yea man, people making fun of Gattis on twitter means free speech is dying. Very good and intelligent point.
rather a lack of respect for others is slowly eroding free speech. making fun of his opinion or stance is disrespecting another human and their opinion. if one wishes to engage in actual dialogue that is wonderful, that is american. shouting him down or belittling his position without thoughtful input is for the weak. I dont like weak.
It's a few no bodies and probably bots on social media. Engage at your own risk.
Nothing to do with freedom of speech tho...
I mean, you just freely spoke and others freely disagreed...no one is going to prison over it. 🙂
Sounds like you have no idea what "free speech" actually is.
He has a point about 2020. He did a horrible job play calling and putting us in 3rd and longs by running up the middle on first and second every drive, but I don't think people really realize how inexperienced our roster really was.
Aside from Ronnie Bell, our receivers came in with less than 25 career receptions. We ranked 137 out of 138 in returning receiving production of all big ten teams since 2013, which is insane. Our offensive line had a combined 2 starts coming into the season and our best lineman, Mayfield, got hurt before declaring for the draft. It was our 5th worst defense, according to SP+ since 1970.
yea but the 11W belief is that we were just an awful team who got better when we let an analyst start soliciting bleacher-shot game footage from fans. but some in this thread think we'd be best served by refuting the words of every buckeye idiot who thinks along those lines.
No buts about it! Gattis was a crappy OC who was handed the Broyles in 2021 because of "reasons."
Any QB can throw a quick out to the slowest most inexperienced P5 WR when they have a 10-yard cushion like virtually every CB was giving Michigan on 1st and 2nd down in 2019 and 2020.
HUGE difference between 2019 and 2020. Three NFL receivers (DPJ, Nico, and Tarik) on the 2019 team. 2020 receivers were Ronnie Bell, CJ, Giles Jackson, Mike Sainristril, and Roman Wilson
Good point. Nico was supposed to come back in 2020 (I believe he was even on the cover of HTTV) but ended up opting out due to COVID.
I gave Harbaugh a big pass for the 2020 season:
4/5th of the O-Line from the 2019 was drafted in the NFL
New QB after 2 years of Shea Patterson
DPJ - drafted. - Nico Collins sitting out.
The defense lost:
Uche - Hudson - Metellus - Glasgow and Hill to the draft. Ambry Thomas sat out.
That is a lot to replace under normal circumstances. Covid wiped out spring practice. Covid affected off season conditioning. Covid changed fall camp. Maybe the 2019 Michigan team with their experience would have been fine in the Covid 2020 year, but as young as Michigan was with a boat load of new starters, that was just too much to ask, so I gave Harbaugh a pass on that season.
Not gonna be driving back across that bridge anytime soon huh Josh?
Fuckin jerkstore.
Now we get to wait and see how many games The Ohio......errrrrr the NCAA suspends Sherrone for. Over under is 5.5
Why is it always the ex Michigan staff and players who always seem to go publicly against their former school? Coaches and players leave all over the country and you never see this shit, but you have someone leave from Michigan and he’s slinging shit in no time.
Because they know that no one from Michigan is going to say anything publicly, and there is no point for Michigan to say anything because it's a lose lose for them...
JG hasn't done anything since he left Michigan so it just proves that he needed Michigan more than Michigan needed him...
That is a wild amount of butt hurt. Why even respond to that on social media beyond 'Never happened'.
And insinuating there's more to burgergate to presumably torch the coach who mentored you into a Broyles Award winner? Bold strategy.
Josh Gattis also fails to take the approach that I wish people who have had similar adventures would take. How hard is it to simply say, "Did it. Twice. Once in a Yugo" or something?
If it didn't happen he should say something along the lines of " she is a wonderful person whose company I enjoyed but there was nothing more than that" that would be the adult way of responding. Otherwise " we dated briefly but mutually decided we were not right for a long term relationship ". How about that ? See what you can do if you are not angry and posting before you think ?
