Iowa Snowflakes: The Defense

This will be the thread for hot takes regarding the defense and defensive playcalling.

Well I hope you realize that Minter is just a carbon copy of Macdonald. They’re both mediocre coaches and play callers. The only difference is that Macdonald had Hutchinson, Ojabo, Dax, and Josh Ross last year. Aside from the personnel drop off, they are literally the same guy. If Macdonald were still around, the defense would look just like it has so far this season.

edit: nothing I’ve said here is controversial. Hell Jim Harbaugh even believes this. Macdonald = Minter and vice versa.

Our OCs are garbage

Our DCs are garbage

Weve won the big ten, beat osu, and gone 17-2 in our last 19 games.

I think (some of) our fans are trending more towards garbage than our coaches to be honest.

All these chicken littles just hoping and waiting for disaster but you people are nearly 20 games into this (incorrect) stance. Maybe time to step back from the ledge? If Morris and Okie blow up itll be “Yeah anyone can win with those guys”. Insufferable

Hear hear.

Today’s game plan was perfect all the way around and resulted in a mostly comfortable win - in a place where it is notoriously difficult to win. And that last defensive series…wow! Four consecutive pass plays, two sacks, two QB hits, zero catchable passes thrown. Awesome!!

This is a stance I will never understand.  Durkin was not there and is literally forbidden by the NCAA from attending those workouts.  The kid dies an hour after the workout ended, when he should have been getting care from the medical staff who ignored him.  If you want to blame someone at MD, you should be looking at the training and medical staffs and the NCAA rules.

Colson has been pretty late to react on runs and found himself in no-man’s-land vs TEs today. There was one play when Jenkins slowed down the RB behind the LOS after shedding a block, and Junior sat there instead of tackling for no gain.

This feels like an overcorrection from last season, when he was quick to start running, even if the wrong way. I bet that will improve over the course of the season.

Brian didn’t either, though he seemed to be coming around given that he picked Okie for a “possible pash rush solution.” But you could see it developing, because he was doing a lot with his snaps (IIRC, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 3 QB hits in 26 snaps before today) and has been a pretty good run defender. Even if he doesn’t do anything else the rest of the season, that’s already a  pretty big lottery ticket win.

Competition caveats apply.

Another good growing game.

Some holes to exploit for a team with more athletes than Iowa, but hopefully we see it too and keep working on it.
