D is a quagmire to me. I get excited at times and cringe-worthy at other times.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
Idk what to make of this defense. They start out hot, fall asleep then wake up. It’s supposedly the same defense as last year so I guess we’ll just have to wait for some players to develop.
October 1st, 2022 at 8:47 PM ^
Petras was 21/31 and had a TD (his first of the year) so it's not great, but okay?
October 2nd, 2022 at 7:28 AM ^
He converted a 3rd and 22 against us. That should never happen. Not Petras. That to go along with the 3rd and 21 Maryland's backup converted last week. They need to tighten that area of the defense up.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Hutch and Ojabo covered up a lot of holes last year.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
That's kinda what elite players do. Or do you think the top end teams hoarding talent like that is a coincidence?
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Excellent
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Excellent
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
They made it work, the pressure at the end was nice, Go Blue!!
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Minter is not good. With a better coach this defense could be dominant.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Well I hope you realize that Minter is just a carbon copy of Macdonald. They’re both mediocre coaches and play callers. The only difference is that Macdonald had Hutchinson, Ojabo, Dax, and Josh Ross last year. Aside from the personnel drop off, they are literally the same guy. If Macdonald were still around, the defense would look just like it has so far this season.
edit: nothing I’ve said here is controversial. Hell Jim Harbaugh even believes this. Macdonald = Minter and vice versa.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Our OCs are garbage
Our DCs are garbage
Weve won the big ten, beat osu, and gone 17-2 in our last 19 games.
I think (some of) our fans are trending more towards garbage than our coaches to be honest.
All these chicken littles just hoping and waiting for disaster but you people are nearly 20 games into this (incorrect) stance. Maybe time to step back from the ledge? If Morris and Okie blow up itll be “Yeah anyone can win with those guys”. Insufferable
October 1st, 2022 at 5:58 PM ^
Hear hear.
Today’s game plan was perfect all the way around and resulted in a mostly comfortable win - in a place where it is notoriously difficult to win. And that last defensive series…wow! Four consecutive pass plays, two sacks, two QB hits, zero catchable passes thrown. Awesome!!
October 1st, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
Holy shit. I think Mike Macdonald was the greatest gift Michigan fans have ever received, and you’re calling him mediocre? That’s amazing.
October 2nd, 2022 at 8:24 AM ^
Go take a look at how badly the Ravens defense has been playing after being among the class of the NFL the past few seasons. Macdonald, without Hutch and Ojabo and Dax, was a mediocre coordinator. That’s not that controversial a thing to say.
October 2nd, 2022 at 8:26 AM ^
edit: wait, no edit needed. you’re a dumbass.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Minter is fine. It's pretty difficult for a defense to be "dominant" the pass rush is so inconsistent. He's been solid given the players he has.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Yea, we should bring back Durkin or Brown. Durkin had worst defense 2 years in a row at Ole Miss. This is like the first almost full 2nd year in this defense. It is going to still be a little different then last year
October 1st, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
Durkin also killed a player at Maryland which I feel like is the bigger indictment.
October 1st, 2022 at 6:55 PM ^
Add that in there also. And Minter I will take anyday. I think he will be a star coordinator very soon. People will be hyping him up in a couple years.
October 1st, 2022 at 8:00 PM ^
This is a stance I will never understand. Durkin was not there and is literally forbidden by the NCAA from attending those workouts. The kid dies an hour after the workout ended, when he should have been getting care from the medical staff who ignored him. If you want to blame someone at MD, you should be looking at the training and medical staffs and the NCAA rules.
October 2nd, 2022 at 7:38 AM ^
Vablue,
do you remember all the stuff that came out about Durkin’s program? Durkin created a culture where that kind of negligence was likely to happen. So said independent investigations.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
Really? He might be better than McDonald. Look what McDonald had and Minter lost. And he's more than par for the course so far.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
The defense only gave up one scoring drive. The garbage time one isn't a big deal. At that point it was an exercise in timekeeping.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Some think being negative make them look smart. It does not.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Can’t give up the long conversions. Other than that a solid outing
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
We should consider putting in a linebacker or three.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
Colson has been pretty late to react on runs and found himself in no-man’s-land vs TEs today. There was one play when Jenkins slowed down the RB behind the LOS after shedding a block, and Junior sat there instead of tackling for no gain.
This feels like an overcorrection from last season, when he was quick to start running, even if the wrong way. I bet that will improve over the course of the season.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:51 PM ^
Junior got caught in no-mans-land last week as well and Maryland burned him.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
There when they needed to be.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Three rushing the passer in third quarter and they have open guys all the time. Zone sucked.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
I'm Okie with the progress here, eh Mike?
October 1st, 2022 at 3:39 PM ^
I remember when Seth didn't think Okie would be much of a factor this season. I disagreed, and have been pleased by his performance so far. Hopefully still a lot more upside to come.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:20 PM ^
Eyabi “Jordan Whitley” Okie
October 1st, 2022 at 4:24 PM ^
Brian didn’t either, though he seemed to be coming around given that he picked Okie for a “possible pash rush solution.” But you could see it developing, because he was doing a lot with his snaps (IIRC, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 3 QB hits in 26 snaps before today) and has been a pretty good run defender. Even if he doesn’t do anything else the rest of the season, that’s already a pretty big lottery ticket win.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:34 PM ^
There was a ton of reason to be skeptical of him contributing. Thinking he would be as good as he is just acting superior because you are a stargazer.
That being said he has exceed expectations and deserves more snap.
October 1st, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
Me too. My eyes said he'd be starting by midseason. Then again I though Harrell would be better but they went at him.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
I missed the last quarter.... why did Okie hijack the post game interview with Morris and JJ ? Did Okie have a good game ?
October 1st, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
They were interviewing Morris and Okie first and then JJ came in.
Okie had a monster sack that iced the game,
October 1st, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
And he was poised, and well spoken, represented M well. Hope to see a lot more from him.
October 1st, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
Were you surprised at how well-spoken he was?
October 1st, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
it may shock you that many college kids tense up, ramble or lack confidence when speaking to the media. also not uncommon for middle aged people to struggle in that regard. so it does say something when a kids confident and well spoken
October 1st, 2022 at 6:50 PM ^
I mean, the dude has bounced around for years for discipline issues, so it’s genuinely good to see him representing himself and Michigan well.
October 1st, 2022 at 4:21 PM ^
He had like 5 pressures and a sack in crunch time
October 1st, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Competition caveats apply.
Another good growing game.
Some holes to exploit for a team with more athletes than Iowa, but hopefully we see it too and keep working on it.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
7 non garbage time points and it took getting the ball on M side of the field. At Iowa, one of their biggest games of the season.
October 1st, 2022 at 10:01 PM ^
I think it needs to be pointed out that Iowa had extremely good field position on that drive, thanks to back to back gaffes by JJ and Robbins. I thought they played really well in the second half.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
Disappointing to give up 14 points to that offense.
October 1st, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Come on. First, 14 points isn't many, and it took a touchdown with 8 seconds to get there.
It's a win in Kinnick - savor it!
