Exactly as predicted.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:28 PM ^
This is sublime.
August 25th, 2023 at 5:43 AM ^
It's a great chance to show off the coaching depth.
All of these men are early in their careers and this is valuable experience. This has a chance to increase their profiles and set them apart from other candidates.
To have a boss that is promoting your career success is culture building that stays. It makes hiring new coaches easier because Harbaugh can point to career development of previous coaches.
Jay Harbaugh has been great at all of the coaching assignments he is given and when they land a big recruit his name is usually attached to it. Very effective recruiter. I'm confident that he will handle this without a problem.
August 25th, 2023 at 7:55 AM ^
I love it. Harbaugh gets suspended and gets to have his son coach the team and have his Dad on the staff. Both of which are extremely qualified.
Only negative (which is also a positive) is that we may lose one or more of these guys a year earlier. This is the best coaching staff Michigan has had in my lifetime, and I don't think it is even close.
August 25th, 2023 at 9:33 AM ^
NEPOTISM!!!!!
But seriously, the people that cried the loudest about that still have to be feeling some shame, right?
August 25th, 2023 at 10:26 AM ^
But not as sublime as the Great Prussian Coaching Showcase of 1878, amirite?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
So JayBaugh will be coaching the first string against UNLV and Hart will be coaching 2nd-3rd string? I can't imagine we'll keep the starters in more than 1-2 possessions in the 2nd half.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
not sure how you came up with that scenario. and based on this tweet how can anyone even answer that question?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:51 PM ^
Well, it was primarily a joke.
But also, it explicitly says Hart will be coaching the 2nd half. Do you imagine the 1st string will be playing much in the 2nd half against UNLV? If the 1st string needs to be in the whole game, against UNLV, then there might be some problems.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:17 PM ^
In the Harbaugh era, Michigan never seems to blow out anyone in the first half anyway. But I would flip this or just give it to Hart for the whole game. But, maybe we'd feel safer w Hart coaching the 2nd if something goes wrong?
Generally, I hope these interim coaches don't go for the slow motion blowout like Harbaugh prefers. I hope they translate massive yardage disparities into lots of first half points haha.
August 25th, 2023 at 8:55 AM ^
Crazy that this needed to be explained.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
Will Jay get the win or will they split it? These are real games and they will go in the record books. They have to credit someone with the win and I assume it would be the guy who starts, but I’m continually reminded that I don’t know shit. So maybe someone here knows how these will be recorded.
August 24th, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
I was curious about this too, so I looked up the rule and apparently if a head coach is suspended by the school or the conference, he can still count the games toward his record. But if the committee on infractions hands out the suspension, the games will go on the interim coach’s record. As far as having different interim head coaches in the first vs second half - no idea. I didn’t see anything about it in the rule book.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:47 AM ^
I'm guessing the split game duty is no accident. Harbaugh probably looked up the same thing you did and decided to mess with the NCAA records team.
Figure that one out jackasses!!!
Had Harbaugh done split duty for all three suspension games the NCAA probably would have given him a show-cause.
August 25th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
This would be 100% Jim MF'in Harbaugh.
August 25th, 2023 at 5:33 AM ^
Either Jay gets the win and Hart gets a save, or Jay is credited with a quality start and Hart gets the win.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:13 PM ^
do they have saves in football?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
You know what? I'm suddenly interested in the non-conference schedule. I want to see how the team comes out against UNLV and BG. One of those two guys are likely to replace Jim when he leaves.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
At least from my perspective, all signs seem to point to Moore being groomed for the role. Would not be the least bit surprised to see all 4 being D1 HCs sometime this decade
August 24th, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
This decade? According to Harbaugh, they could all be HCs next year.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
Could be, but I think that's very unlikely. 4 guys from the same staff all being promoted in 1 year would have to be unprecedented.
August 24th, 2023 at 9:37 PM ^
Prophetic.
Four members of the staff will have now been head coaches after the 1st three games.
August 24th, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
And Mike Hart's old twitter tag line has come true. 'Future Head Coach, UofM'.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:46 PM ^
I'd bet a dollar they are all head coaches THIS year
August 24th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
Amusingly enough I think this means all the non-con games are gonna be super entertaining now. This isn't gonna be Jim calling 80% runs and just grinding people down. This is a resume game for all these guys so we're probably gonna be trying to blow these games open in the 1st half
August 24th, 2023 at 8:39 PM ^
Yessir LFG!
August 25th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
It helps Moore out, because he’ll get more credit for his play calls; that is, unless he has a com in his ear and JH sits outside the stadium in a van calling plays.
August 24th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
Jay is the Mason Graham of the staff. Just gets it done with little to no accolades.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
the fact that someone slinged this together in Adobe Illustrator is pure poetry.
August 24th, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
sorry to be the grammar nazi but I'm pretty sure you mean "slanged"
August 25th, 2023 at 6:42 AM ^
got me . . . slung . . . had to look it up as engineers have no natural grammar ability (my LS&A friends had a good laugh proofing my papers). But the MICHIGAN difference, I looked it up.
Did I tell you that I have a signed copy of Stay Sane in an Insane World by Greg Harden? I am telling everyone. That man coaches 24/7. He was coaching me as he crafted his dedication to address my personal situation. I also bought a copy to donate to a silent auction (collection of signed sports related books.)
Can't wait.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
The only thing missing from this fantastic graphic is a slightly more overt version of the "f you, NCAA" subtext. Like a hand in a fist, middle finger extended and the letters N C A A on each exposed lower knuckle.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
This turned any of my vitriol into exuberance.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:15 PM ^
Awesome. But can Jay Harbaugh please get himself a Michigan hat instead of a generic jumpman hat?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
The assignments are fine. Serve this self imposed suspension - and wait nine months for the NCAA to try to find its way out of a brown paper bag.
Speaking of brown bagging - can you think of any schools were penalized for their brown bag programs?
August 24th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
No, but I'd bet that Tennessee Tech's AD doesn't sleep well at night.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
love the move, herbert and papa jack as temp coaches is great
August 24th, 2023 at 6:33 PM ^
Can you imagine how fired up the players will be to play for either of them?? I can’t decide which would be crazier to play for!
August 24th, 2023 at 6:36 PM ^
Could have added John as well to make it a whole family affair.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
John might have some other contractual obligations
August 24th, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
Omg this is the way! If only for game one... before NFL season begins the following week... trotting John Harbaugh out there would be amazing..
August 25th, 2023 at 9:10 AM ^
Does this allow Harbaugh to nominate Herbert for the Broyles award now like he wanted to last year?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:31 PM ^
No Clink? Not sure if he'd be interested.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
Maybe it has to do with seniority? Also I could see all 4 of those guys being head coaches relatively soon. Maybe less so with Minter. He doesn't strike me as a leader, more of a great defensive mind. Nothing wrong with that.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:11 PM ^
Didn’t Minter interview last season for both DC and HC jobs? Isn’t he the son of a HC?
August 24th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
There are plenty of sons who don't possess the skills of their fathers.
August 25th, 2023 at 8:54 AM ^
Nothing wrong with having an opinion here. Minter doesn't look the HC type, I agree. But I haven't been in his presence. Sometimes looks mean nothing if someone has great presence.
