How far is Peters away from being ready

Submitted by GoBlueInAlabama on
58 passing yards and several missed reads. I would like to think Peters could do this at a minimum. I get that Michigan can still make a run at the CFP with only 1 loss, but let's not try to fool ourselves into thinking they legitimately have a chance to run the table.

At this point, you have to give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt that he can correctly decide which QB gives his team the best chance to win.

The better question is: Why isn't Peters ready?

Unfortunately, only the coaching staff has any information at all to form an opinion on it. The only thing we can say is that, logically, it falls on the coaching staff at some level (either coaching or recruiting), and hopefully changes are made so that the QB play improves moving forward.

I'm a huge Texans fan. The Texans and Wolverines have been quite similar over the years, from both having bad special teams, bad defenses but could score points, and now with great defenses and a lousy QB and OL.

We jumped up in the draft to take Watson to hopefully change that. O'Brien was afraid to play him because he didn't want to get him killed behind our shit OL. Look at him now though. We have one of the best offenses in the league (and immediately lose 2 of our best defensive players, because of course).

I say put him in and see what he has. Can't be any worse than what we're doing now.

I'm in the it's the coaching and playbook arena that is lacking. To me, Coach, Pep and Drev are trying to implement a Pro style offense with mostly fresh out of HS players. Produce a game plan to compliment the players you have, don't force them into a mold that isn't ready yet.

Harbaugh seems to prefer an older guy at QB. That's all I can guess. It's a meritocracy with a huge asterisk at QB. Either that or all these freshman QB's we see playing are better than Peters or McCaffery.

I'lll be the first to say JOK has been awful, but the coaching/play calling is even worse.  I find it hard to believe we can't devise a gameplan based around high percentage passes and the run game.

Even so, you cannot let the defense load the box.

You have to throw downfield against PSU regardless of if we throw a few INT's.

I'd rather go down swinging than Harbaugh running his high school offense.

How far away is O'Korn from being ready? The choice is between two terrible quarterbacks who will absolutely sabotage any hope Michigan has of winning the Big 10. One of those two terrible QBs is a freshman who could theoretically improve with in game reps and maybe be closer to decent by the Ohio State game. The other is a redshirt senior who had 5 years to figure out that more than 1 receiver runs a route on a play, and still can't get that through his head.

Peters is the only choice, and it's not because he's going to be significantly better than O'Korn. When both of your options are terrible, you might as well pick the one that might lead to better results in the future. This season is a lost cause. If we're going to have a QB averaging 3 ypa, it might as well be the kid.

We might have sacrified the Florida game but then again Speight threw 2 pick 6s and we still won. Imagine how much more comfortable Peters would be by now and would probably be much better than O'Korn or Speight could ever be. Instead Peters won't play until the season is toast and we will start yet again with an inexperienced QB in 2018.

I am still stunned that in year 3, Jim fucking Harbaugh is trotting out a dude that almost never makes the correct read and threw for 5 yards in a half vs fucking Indiana. I wouldn’t have predicted that in a million years after his hire. No idea what the deal is with Peters. It is very concerning that he can’t get snaps in a game when the current QB is mission open receivers and overall making poor decisions. Don’t give me this freshman shit. This is his seconds year. The current QB threw for 5 yards in a half against Indiana!!! I sure hope Mccaffrey is ready next year.

Some have commented that Peters should play because some other RS freshman have been  "successful".  I would think that are counter examples of RS Freshman QBs who are not doing so well.  But even if there aren't, we have to remember that the RS Freshman who are playing regularly and that you can see in game situations are not a random sample of RS Freshman quarterbacks - they are out there because their coaches think they give the team the best shot to win.

If Peters has not shown enough in practice to earn snaps at this juncture, I can't see the staff playing him over O'Korn. That sends an awful message to the rest of the team - "If you screw up in a game, we'll toss you out and just throw in just about anyone".

But I do wish we were more developed at the QB spot.  And we had better receivers.  And better O-lineman.

Agree with your sentiment that the coaches should not pull someone for a bad game, that logic contradicts what Harbaugh has said all along: we’ll play those who give us the best chance to win.

58 yards, constant happy feet that never seem to improve week to week, and a ton of missed reads yet again?

I’m pretty sure DPJ or Poggi could give us a better chance to win at QB.

It's a tough spot for Jim, as there is still a chance they can run the table....sliiiiiiim chance to say the least, but it's still in play. So Okorn has his trust the most at this point. I believe he thinks it's more risky/throwing away the season to put in Peters at this point...we may not like it, but I get it. But, if/when we lose another game, Peters must get his chance for the sake of next yeat...he must. If that doesnt happen, then I will no longer give Jim the benefit of the doubt pertaining to his sanity, foe what it's worth

He said he didn't command huddle or shout out the calls at line of scrimmage. Essentially said he was passive. I think Peters is gone after this year transfer with 2 years eligibility. If cant play ahead of okorn garbage he's got to move on.

Look for Joe Milton yo take over next year.

locks on to his primary target on every pass play and is lost if they are covered.  We are in big trouble next week and the rest of season, especially on NOv. 25.  I can't believe it, but losing Speight was a bad blow.  How does Harbaugh recruit 7 QBs and none are any good?

Agreed...I guess if we keep winning with Okorn, just roll with it (slim chance, but still a chance). Silver lining: if/when we lose, Peters has to get the rock for the rest of the seasom, it's the only remaining logical choice, especially going into next year. On a side note, hey look at me! First post on these here boards! #goodtimes
