The only other serious option is Jesse Minter, but it's not clear he has the same HC disposition that Sherrone does. If we can keep the same defensive scheme with Zach Orr or someone like that, I think Moore will hit this out of the park. Plus, he already satisfies the #1 job requirement: owning real estate in Ryan Day's head and the rest of that awful fanbase. They're already calling Sherrone, "3rd base Moore." But, does anyone recall Sherrone claiming he hit a triple? Beating OSU without your head coach is only like a double, right? (Cackles with glee).

I suppose it depends on your definition of "tough," but I would classify Ryan Day as extremely tough. The guy lost his father to suicide when he was 9 years old, overcame that tragedy, and has worked his way up through the coaching ranks despite not having a D1 playing career or family connections to the sport. I dislike him as a football coach, but respect the guy a ton.

Sherrone Moore is also a tough, fantastic person and I'm very excited that he will be the next Michigan football coach.

Yeah, I used to say the same thing. That's a rough start for a kid. Made me root for him a bit.

But, he's revealed himself to be a whiner and a douche and a sore loser. If someone beats him, they must be cheating! And he knew all the 'advanced scouting' stuff was BS. He could have easily said in the press "this is nothing". Rather, he propped it up.

At some point, your sad past isn't an apology for your current behavior.

Yeah I’m laughing so hard at these tough bro buckeyes…defending that mediocre coach like it’s family and he hasn’t won much of anything significant in 3 years…rose bowl consolation I suppose.  And the 3rd base stuff…goes completely over their heads Day talked a bunch of tough guy shit and couldn’t back it up and got clapped back by the far superior coach. If you talk a bunch of shit you need to be able to accept the returned critiscm when you hilariously fail.  They live in a world where spin and hype are more important than facts and productions… cornballs.

Think about the genuine raw emotion of Sherrone breaking into tears after a whirlwind 24 hrs and telling his (fucking) players he loves the shit out of them, vs Ryan Day's WWE promo calling out a lisping octogenarian.  The only good thing you can say about Day here is that he is at least still less terrible than the WWE.  But the bottom line (cause I said so) is that if I'm a player, I'm running through a brick wall for only one of these guys.

Agreed that Sherrone is the right guy - however, we need to learn the lessons from (To Hell With) Notre Dame on how to do this right.

Lot of similarities between SM and Marcus Freeman - both young, little to no head coaching experience, bright minds, up and comers, awesome recruiters, players love them.

Where Notre Dame has made mistakes is not spending enough on the OC and DC, and their NIL infrastructure and strategy is not great.  Appears Michigan and SM already have that in gear or plan to.  But our OC and DC choices are going to be critical for success.

Also love that our player evaluation and development far exceeds those of the Domers.  They get lots of 4 stars - but nowhere near the development of those hyped players.  And nice that SM also makes sure there are 11 men on the field at all times v the Bucks - Freeman, not so much...

Gotta give Sherrone his shot - and give him all the money and support he needs to be successful.

That DC choice is going to be a big one.  A guy like Mike Elston would seem to have also earned his shot - remember, one reason he left the Domers was that they didn't give him a chance at DC.  SM's choice here will be critical - I just hope he has has the financial support to go after an outside stud if that is what he wants to do.  Freeman promoted Gerard Parker to OC last year because he didnt have the money for a big name - he was a disaster, in over his head, and lasted one year.  Think we saw over the last 3 years the importance of great OC and DC.

You aren't wrong, but I'd argue Moore has a bit more experience than Freeman given Harbaugh's suspensions. I also think Harbaugh is more collaborative than Kelly is known to be.

Also don't think Harbaugh's timing on leaving, nor the lack of options currently, leave us much choice. We could lose a lot of guys off this team if we hired from outside.

We just won a championship, I'm ok with rolling the dice with found money. Just don't give the guy a $95 million dollar guaranteed contract.

I agree that Moore is the right choice, given current options and continuity. I wouldn't say that 4 games with harbaugh leading the week up to game day is that much more experience than Freeman (was he already named coach when he coached they bowl loss? I don't recall).

I was hoping the silver lining of the harbaugh news would be to drop the Texas tix prices in AA, but no luck!

And I'm no hater, but what is the idea that Michigan has a plan to get NIL in gear mean, and where is the idea coming from? We've heard about it getting in order for two years and while I absolutely get the reservations about tossing loads of cash at 17 year olds, I don't think that's going to change because aren't the rumblings that Warde or the athletic department is part of the sticking point potentially? Unless Warde really was that much of a hater and now will support it now that Jim is gone?

I agree that Marcus Freeman and Sherrone are similar in some areas -- young, black, former players, etc ... However, I don't think their situations are the same.

Freeman was hired by ND as the DC in January 2021. By December 2021, he was the head coach. That was Brian Kelly's program, and Freeman was brought in to run the defense (with Kelly being an offensive-focused HC). Freeman was a HC candidate who just happened to be there -- he wasn't part of building Kelly's program at ND.

Sherrone was hired in 2018 as a TE coach. He worked his way up to being an OL coach and eventually the OC. With Harbaugh being an offensive-minded coach, they worked together closely. Sherrone was here during the rock-bottom 2020 season, and he was here to build the championship culture that we have today. He was on the recruiting trail to land JJ, Donovan, Keegan, McGregor, and so on. There wasn't smash mouth "Harball" before Moore got involved. It may have been a huge coincidence, but it also may have been Harbaugh finally finding the guy who could take his vision and actually put it into play (after the failures of Drevno, Pep, Gattis).

Freeman is a promising young coach who showed up at ND at the right time to land the HC job.

Moore is a promising young coach who was pivotal in taking a program from a low point to a National Championship.

Fred Wolfe Bowling for Dollars. I miss the ol league and Team Strohs. My dad x U of D on Livernois owned the place. Buzz Fazio, Eddie Labanski, Joe Joseph, Steve Nagy w a cigar, whipping his ball if he got a split. Team Bud'zer, Don Carter, wrong foot Louie Limpio. And our QB Bobby Layne came in as a bartender. Now I know why he felt like shit on Sundays.

Harbaugh has been singing his praises for a couple of years now.

First permanent head coach who is black in the history of the program. That is a big deal. One that deserves to be trumpeted regardless of what some think.

I am on record as previously being deeply skeptical of appointing a HC without experience. But I as I have considered other program’s experiences and UM’s own history I have warmed to the idea.

I won’t hide from my prior statements. I own them. I admit that I was wrong. To the extent that it matters Coach Moore has 100% of my support.

Ultimately, Coach Moore will be judged by how his teams perform on the field just as others were. We need to give him 100% of our support.
