FSU: Injuries Count

Submitted by oakapple on December 3rd, 2023 at 1:10 PM

Some people are amazed when the Committee does exactly what it said it would do. The Committee’s own procedures say it must consider injuries. (The basketball committee does that too.) In contrast, there is nothing that says an undefeated P5 champ must be in the top four. I grieve for Florida State, but after its starting QB went down it simply has not been the same team.

Some in the media were arguing that Washington should leapfrog Michigan, because its win over Oregon “looked better” than Michigan’s slog over Iowa. But the Committee had Michigan consistently above Washington starting in Week 9, when Michigan still had not played Penn State, Ohio State, or Iowa. There was no way the same people who ranked them in that order were going to change their minds after Michigan handled Iowa 26–0.

FSU, on their 3rd string QB, beat a top 15 team in the rain. I would have thought that the committee would have taken that, along with a month to prepare, into account. My opinion is that with a month to prepare, whoever FSU rolls out there at QB would be comparable to Milroe.

What I find laughable is that they put FSU over UGA in their rankings. If FSU, without Travis, is better than UGA, then they are also better than Bama. But whatever. Let them have their SEC team in the CFP, as required by law.

FSU got screwed like we got screwed 50 years ago. Except FSU's QB won't be throwing snowballs by the time the Rose Bowl rolls around, like Franklin was. So, we were screwed worse

FSU got screwed.  Either use the "best 4" criteria or "who earned it" criteria. It's as if they used the "who earned it" when putting in Washington and Texas, the pivoted to the "best 4" criteria to put Bama in.  Pick one.  Because if it's the best 4 then you could have just announced Michigan, OSU, Bama, and Georgia a couple of weeks ago.

I do feel bad for FSU's entire team but what I can't get past is how Jordan Travis must feel right now.  If you were an athlete and ever got injured you know that when you got hurt you can't help but think you let your team down.  Then add the CFP committee saying without any doubt that your injury kept your entire team from playing for a National Title.  I don't wish that feeling on anyone.

I am also thinking about all the Michigan fans who were around n 1973 and are experiencing horrible flashbacks from the B10 doing the exact same thing to us.

Does the CFP committee drop their guidelines after the first four teams?  If the criteria gets thrown out, okay.  If not, then how did the committee rank FSU above Georgia?  Isn't it basically the same analysis?  Georgia lost to Bama in a close, hard-fought game.  If the committee is trying to rank according to which team is "better," that seems pretty hypocritical.

Prepare yourselves for players lying about injuries now. Torn ACL? Sure, he will be ready for the playoffs in five weeks. He was just “working through something”!

Consistency counts to me - if injuries matter then Michigan should not be #1 - they are just making crap up to justify an SEC team getting in because it’s the “best conference” which is a garbage subjective take….check out the SEC out of conference results this year - the sad thing is when an SEC team is interested, motivated and with weeks to prepare, the probability is in their favor to win another title.

Texas is the only team that scares me in the CFP.  They beat an Oklahoma State team that in the SEC, ACC and B1G would not have even sniffed a conference championship game, but Texas looked dominant in that win.  There wasn't any position group on Texas' team that I watched yesterday that had a weak spot.

No, they messed up.  They left out an undefeated FSU... Let that sink it.  There will be domino effects in the future that will spur FSU to leave the ACC because it's all a joke.

Bad post and bad opinion. Another way to frame this asinine argument is that FSU lose their best and most impressive player and STILL has a better record than a fully healthy bama who got dog walked at home

UM - UW final

A couple of inaccurate Milroe passes will be intercepted.

And more than a couple of accurate JJ passes will cost Bama if they stack the box.

Norvell's statement probably says it best but this is a complete joke.

OSU won with a 3rd string QB. The Eagles won the Super Bowl with MVP Carson Wentz being injured.

FSU beat a top 12 Louisville team with their 3rd QB. An undefeated, Power 5 champ being left out for TWO teams with a loss?

Bama needed a miracle to beat 6-6 Auburn JUST LAST WEEK

Is it just based on whatever vibes exist after the conference championships? Whether you personally believe it, hasn't Florida St earned the chance to prove they ARE one of the best teams in the country?

Why play any of your best players against the absolute dogs on your schedule? Should Michigan sit JJ every year against teams like MSU or Minnesota?

Vegas doesn't agree with the people on here who are saying FSU is one of the best four. Not even close in fact.

They'd be underdogs by a touchdown plus against any team in the top 8.

Deserving works fine as an argument.

Saying they are one of the best four currently is taking it way too far.

Last night: They had a team who lost to Pitt on National TV with the world watching. And instead of putting a beat down on them (knowing they needed to put a beat down on them), they needed a lousy decision in the red zone by Louisville's QB to sneak out of Dodge.

I think they got a raw deal too. But they were forewarned by the simple logic of their situation. And they didn't deliver.

Bama on the other hand won a virtual play-in game against the best program in the sport the last three seasons.

Georgia would beat Louisville by whatever score they choose to beat them by. Let's be real.

So in 2021 Cincinnati gets into the CFP because they are undefeated, but an undefeated FSU gets shut out this year? There is no consistency. The CFP committee are all in the bag.

But while I feel bad for FSU I am very confident and don't care who we play next. Alabama? Fine with it and I am happy UM has a month to get ready to play. I trust our coaches, all of them! Shout-outs to all: Steve Clinkscale, Jesse Minter, Sherrone, Kirk Campbell, Ron Bellamy, Mike Elston, Jay Harbaugh, Mike Hart, Grant Newsome, Ben Herbert!! And of course, Coach Harbaugh!

This is a very professional team and we will play well on New Year's Day.

Reminds me of the Big Ten in 1973 giving Michigan the middle finger after 10-10 tie with Ohio State and Dennis Franklin broke his collar bone.

Franklin's back up was QB Larry Cipa #13 who was drafted by the Saints 1974/1975

It's all bullshit fellas.

Complete bullshit.
