FSU: Injuries Count

Submitted by oakapple on December 3rd, 2023 at 1:10 PM

Some people are amazed when the Committee does exactly what it said it would do. The Committee’s own procedures say it must consider injuries. (The basketball committee does that too.) In contrast, there is nothing that says an undefeated P5 champ must be in the top four. I grieve for Florida State, but after its starting QB went down it simply has not been the same team.

Some in the media were arguing that Washington should leapfrog Michigan, because its win over Oregon “looked better” than Michigan’s slog over Iowa. But the Committee had Michigan consistently above Washington starting in Week 9, when Michigan still had not played Penn State, Ohio State, or Iowa. There was no way the same people who ranked them in that order were going to change their minds after Michigan handled Iowa 26–0.

How did they look worse than Bama who barley beat Auburn two weeks ago at full strength. FSU continued winning with backups. The amount of mental gymnastics to make excuses for Bama is unfathomable to me.

The committee is a joke. Georgia jumped OSU for beating Missouri, but Michigan doesn’t jump Georgia for beating OSU. The only thing consistent about the committee is they will always bend over backwards to accommodate the SEC.

Oh stop. Do you think that people would not watch a Michigan - Florida State game? Florida has one of the fastest, if not fastest, growing populations of any state and certainly more populous than Alabama.

Your take is just paranoid ideation.

The committee had a tough choice to make. One can reasonably argue the merits either way based upon football.

They had to go undefeated or they wouldn't have gotten in either year.

Two weeks ago Georgia played Georgia Tech and Alabama played Chattanooga. Where's the strength of schedule with Alabama playing an intra-mural team the week for rivalry week (which they should have lost to unranked Auburn).

There's 7 deserving teams and only 4 spots.  7 teams that would have gotten in last season.  The committee was going to be criticized no matter what they did.

I thought Florida State earned a spot.  It's a shame they didn't get it.  I was somewhat persuaded by the arguments that removing J.J. McCarthy from Michigan or Michael Penix from Washington is similar to what Florida State has right now.

The Committee knew of the FSU QB injury weeks ago, but didn’t lower their ranking until Alabama beat Georgia, potentially leaving the SEC out of the playoffs.  So they then had to bump both Texas and Bama above FSU.  The SEC bias in the administration of all things involving college football is so obvious.

fsu should decline the bowl invite and boycott. They get $4 million for going to a bcs bowl and that money is distributed between the conference teams. FSU is required to pay for their ticket allotment, so I can’t see them clearing more than $500k net revenue max. However, the ncaa and cfp would take a BIG hit if fsu doesn’t play.

fsu could play against Florida or some other team in an exhibition to get a few bucks and throw a middle finger to the committee

No matter what was said, especially by the espn crew, it's 99.9% that no one on the committee wanted FSU in the playoff. Chances are, they were only voted #5 out of sympathy. FSU probably would have been voted behind georgia, osu, oregon and psu if it was a real vote.

This needs to be said as well.  There is no difference, NONE, from 2022 Ohio State and 2023 Ohio State.  And 2022 Ohio State made the playoffs with no real debate.

There's 6 teams this season that would have gotten in last season.  There just aren't enough spots.

There just aren't enough spots.

According to this article, you have the genius P12/ACC/B1G "Alliance" to thank for that.

How ironic that one of its members was then screwed out of a spot because of the Alliance's obstruction.

The entire framework is a crock of shit. No other sport are champions determined by trying to guess the future. It's results or a random draw. Fuck ESPN and the CFP. I'm genuinely hoping that UM wins it all so I can walk away from this with Michigan as a national champion. The entire assemblage of this sport has just decayed beyond belief. As a former player I can say with clear eyes that being a fan fucking sucks, especially in the current landscape of the sport. I'm at the point where I'd rather watch lower division schools because at the least it's football, not the ES(EC)PN circle jerk. Really hoping we pull this off so we can stick it to ESPN and the rest of this whack ass sport.
