I talked to Dusty the other day and got the feeling that he was headed here. Louisville guys were acting like they had him wrapped up, but it definitely seemed like he was headed this way. Excited for him and Michigan.

I mean they also beat a 4 seed that blew out Duke and a 3 that beat sparty (though obviously not top ten versions of those teams) and came within a point of the title game. I take the one hit wonder point, but let's not act like Purdue losing gave them a bye to the final four. They played exactly one double digit seed

A win vs Purdue doesnt put you in the final four. Why do people do this on this board? I swear if they need to they could dismiss Tom Brady's success. He may not be a a hall of fame coach (yet) but the guy took FAU to the Final Four. He is ours and that is a fantastic thing to have on his resume when recruiting. We can bitch in 36 months if he isnt working out but he has a 3 year ramp up from me. Build it up right!

About what?

Are they friends? Is JB his mentor? Has Beilein taken on an unofficial Michigan basketball advisor role we’re all unaware of? I’m sure he’d be great as an assistant of some kind but give the new HC a minute to get his bearings under him, yeesh…

Much like when Harbaugh left the football program and Moore took over, it’s nobody’s team except for the HC, his staff and his players. We all love Beilein but if May’s first directive is “Contact the coach from 5 years ago for help”, what does that say about the level of confidence of the guy you just hired?

I know what you're getting at, but Moore isn't a good example. Harbaugh is his mentor, and he's said several times that they talk often, and that he'll lean on him as he transitions to being a head coach.

But I agree that May and Beilein probably have no previous connection, and there's no reason to assume May would reach out to him. He could reach out to his former boss (and former IU / Detroit-Mercy coach) Mike Davis. I don't know why he would, but he's recently unemployed.

Good grab by Warde. No clue if it’ll work but its a solid hire today. We’ll see if his success at FAU is some short term roster luck or if hes legit

Well, they decided they wanted him and they appear to have gotten him. Like others, I’m not super-impressed with what was available, fine with this as the choice given all that, and pleased to see that Warde stepped up and was decisive in a time when he needed to be. I’ve often pushed back against a lot of the criticism against him but he *does* seem best suited for behind-the-scenes bureaucracy and hasn’t always been quick on the trigger when needed, so this is good.

We’ll see if it works out.

Good Iuck Coach May.

This is one of the “only time will tell” hires.  Relatively young at 47 and some strong positives in his background, but questions.

These are the hires that go the way of Roy to KU or Mike to Duke for long runs by building excellent programs or it goes the way of so many mediocre hires.  I’m hopeful of the former.

I hope it works and isn't just AD grabbing the hot coach.  RR was also a hot coach with a good record at one school in a weak conference.  I believe the cupboard is even emptier than what RR inherited as well.
