DL coach Chris Scruggs arrested for OWI
Yet another vetting failure by Warde, WTF.
I was too slow on the login 😂
Although I did take the time to /s so people didn’t think I was serious.
Exactly how is this on Warde?
Look, I hated Warde before it was cool but short of disqualifying any applicant that drinks (or had a DUI 10 years ago) I’m not sure how he prevents someone from doing something stupid at 3am.
Maybe his Crystal Ball was in the shop.
I was waiting for this one.
so much for the increased scrutiny of the hiring process.

Isn't it Greg Scruggs? Either way, not a good look.
Hopefully this is just his evil twin brother.
I done messed up.
I have no idea where I got Chris from.
Hopefully it’s a first, or for that matter a first and only, and certainly not within seven years. Otherwise he’ll be a walking-to-work son of a gun.
Well ...
While a senior football player at the University of Louisville, Scruggs was arrested on a DUI charge in 2011 and dismissed from the team before the Belk Bowl.
Ok. So it’s been 13 years.
so under michigan law this would be dealt with as a 'first' - max 93 days in jail, $500 fine, 360 hrs community service. not sure what they're doing down in washtenaw county, but normally the total time in jail is whatever time you spent the night you got popped. figure ~$1,000 in fines and costs (varies by jurisdiction); maybe take a MADD VIP (victim impact panel) class and/or an alcohol highway safety class (AHSC). sometimes the bond or probation conditions have the defendant take PBT's 1-5 times/day, again varying tremendously by jurisdiction.
30 day 'hard' suspension of the license, followed by 150 days of a restricted license - to/from school, work, major medical, court, and treatment. if he gets a break down to an OWVI (operating while visibly impaired), then it's a 90 day restriction on the license.
~$2500 in fines/costs
Breathalyzer daily for first 30 daily. If get a portable - 2x a day for duration of probation.
Potentially random drug tests
at least in michigan, no jurisdiction that i've been in (dozens) has had fines more than $1250 and those backed down during covid and haven't gone back up.
one of my favorite U of M alums mailed me an updated det. news article, and it looks like he had one in that was turned into a non-dui conviction so that it doesn't count as a prior. but if you're really dealing with a guy in candor, it's his 3rd in ~ 12 years. he has a problem and he shouldn't be coaching football until he's got it in order.
Well... I'm basing that on my OWVi in Washtenaw county in 2017.
ouch. you are a champ for the candor though. i'm sure that is long in the past and never to be repeated. i think i've only handled one in washtenaw and it was a few years before that. it resolved along the lines of what i posted. regardless, glad for you that is in the rear-view mirror.
Had a second one in 2013. This is his 3rd.
What he arrested before or after the background check was concluded?
It happened last night

Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated early Saturday morning in Ann Arbor and has been suspended indefinitely by Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore.
Suspended indefinitely is an interesting (and appropriate) detail. Spring practice is ongoing, right? No one knows what Sherrone will do but I think dismissal is definitely on the table.
According to this article, it's starting this Monday.

On Friday, a handful of outgoing players...met with media to preview spring practice, which begins on Monday.
Welp, clearly the background checks also need to include the reciting the alphabet backwards bit LOL
Fuck people who drink and drive.
No. They don’t deserve the pleasure.
Agreed.
Maybe I missed it, but this is the first Toby sighting since his epic string of posts a couple months back. How you been man?
Been good dude, spending less time online. Doing some traveling next month, and seeing someone. How about you?
Going to Costa Rica, Toby?

That’s awesome. As someone who has a deep appreciation for contrarian points of view, I always enjoy some Toby Flenderson.
Spending less time online is a good thing, it seems. I’m off all social media, but good or bad, I still love M Go Blog. It’s less toxic than most online forums.
While I agree, the number of people who drink and drive and also say this, is high in my experience. Those people say "but I only have 1 or 2, I don't get drunk." And this is true. They may have a 1 drink rule and never stray.
However, impairment starts at the first sip. I often wonder if we are better off reminding people of this than saying "eff people."
What's Brady Hoke doing these days?
You know, that's actually not such a bad idea. He was a pretty damn good D-line coach. He might not add much value in recruiting, but if all he had to do was coach DL, he could thrive.
It would require a lot of pride-swallowing by Hoke, though.

Hoke was a great recruiter in his time here.
This is the best most insane idea I’ve heard in a long time.
And any resistant pride would be pretty much exhausted by the end of his walk to A2.
Make him run the big house stairs in a speedo for a few hours a day for a month as PART of his punishment. But a very STUPID thing for this guy to do. BONEHEAD stupid.
Not in Wisconsin anymore, dude.
Underrated
*Greg.
Yikes.
You could probably fill a football stadium just with middle-aged football coaches with a drinking problem.
He's 33
Drinking and driving might shorten your life expectancy beyond 66.
Can we take Larry Johnson from osu?
Fuck no. I don’t want that piece of shit associated with the football program.
I hadn’t heard about him being a piece of shit. What did he do?
Check out the piece of trash he raised.
I wouldn't fault a father much for the actions of an adult son.
Because, by the same logic, Andy Reid and Bill Belichick are both pieces of shit...and so is John Beilein...
Jim Harbaugh had a DWI while coaching at San Diego. It's a dumb move but hardly disqualifying.
Times have changed and it's not the man's first.
If it's your first week on the job, it's definitely disqualifying from that job.
