DeBoer possibly heading to the Tide.

Pretty heavy rumors out there. Definitely impacts our schedule next year if true. I think that would be a homerun for Bama. Maybe we can poach their TE. Who would Washington go for? P Carroll maybe?

"One 4 loss season?"   The Bama faithful were going ballistic after their home loss to Texas earlier this season.

If Bama loses three games in a season - the definition of "hot seat" will take on new meaning.

How Saban delivered the way he did is a separate question.   He won at a truly unprecedented rate.   And, it will be very interesting to see how things go forward in Tuscaloosa.

Him going to Alabama (and following Saban) would be the equivalent of Ed Orgeron going to LSU - they will have one or two really good years followed by a quick descent to multiple subpar seasons. Will the powerful Tide alums/community accept that when it grossly affects their bottom line? I guess we will find out.

I don't think Alabama understands that Penix isn't coming with him. DeBoer is a great offensive minded HC, but he's not likely to ever have such a gifted 6th year QB ever again.

I don't think Penix made DeBoer. I think it was the other way around actually. I remember Penix being an average quarterback at Indiana with DeBoer as his OC. Then DeBoer went to Washington (after Fresno State), took Penix with him, and recruited a bunch of weapons on offense. Suddenly Penix became Heisman worthy (I thought he should have won it this year, not Jaden Daniels). I credit DeBoer for a lot of that.

Give Deboer all the credit he deserves, but he's not going to have anything close to Penix to build with again, especially the experience that a 6th year brings.

And as far as recruiting all those weapons on offense? Yay for him. Defense wins Championships (and beats OSU).

I don't think this will work out. He's a great coach, but not a fit there and has no connection to the Saban coaching tree that I know of. I think they assumed they could get Lanning, and when he turned them down they suddenly got desperate. I'm very surprised Saban retired this way without leaving a definite successor in place (this is another reason why if Harbaugh really wants to go to the NFL, I want him to go ASAP before Moore gets poached).

DeBoer is the same coach today as he was before the NC game, but regardless of whether he stays at UW or goes to Alabama, he's going to see a dramatic increase in his paycheck.

How much of that increase will the players get?

I think this is a big part of the reason that NIL and the portal are being used by so many players now as personal financial instruments—they see coaches and ADs continuously reaping huge salaries, and the imbalance has become simply untenable.

Being the coach that follows the Goat is bad enough, but the boosters at Alabama will have no patience and a very short leash. You have to be a boot licker to be that coach. Saban was a master at appeasing boosters and administrators.  Winning helps, DeBoer might not be big enough for that program.

I'm feeling more and more like Jim stays, but after he won the Natty, i was assuming he was done, and my first thought was I want DeBoer to replace him.

If Bama hired Rees, I'd be thrilled, but that won't happen. They might get Norvell from FSU, now that they are being hit with sanctions from NCAA.

Damn.  I was hoping it would be Norvell or Rees.  DeBoer is a good coach and as much as I hate the Big Ten I'd prefer a good coach stay at Washington than go to Bama.

I think their ideal candidate would Norvell personally.    Has recruited the South, is more likely to understand the Alabama culture/insanity.   Shame they hate Dabo Swinney so much - in his heart of hearts he would probably run to take over.    Also a bummer that Kirby Smart is NEVER going to leave Georgia.   He would be the perfect hire.....

DeBoer feels like an odd culture fit but he is a phenomenal coach.
