Can't wait 'til the 4 and 5 stars start to commit, and all the naysayers say they knew these coDCs were a great idea all along.  Jimmy wants to win - love the youth/energy movement

Even if 4 and 5 star guys start to commit, that doesn’t mean these were good hires. They’re still guys with zero experience running a defense so there’s still the problem of designing a defense and calling the plays. It takes a lot more than recruiting talent.

Everyone is right to be skeptical of these hires. It could work out. But it is far from a guarantee, or even likely

Well, they are NFL coaches, so I assume they aren't some schlubs. Being an NFL coach means you are a bit more qualified than your garden variety college and HS coach. I trust they have the coaching chops to work on the fundamentals. Now, recruiting capabilities are another story. That is yet to be seen.

Working on the fundamentals is, again, completely different from designing/scheming a defense and calling the plays. I’m sure they can teach the fundamentals. The coaches we had before could do that too. The question is whether they can effectively call a defense to put that talent in position to succeed. Something that neither of them have any prior experience doing.

Seems to be  trend to hire nfl experience even if not coordinator experience.  recruiting angle maybe?  Lets just hope thy can scheme and call/adapt solid game plans

Absolutely love how Harbaugh has re-made the coaching staff this offseason.  Instead of taking old re-treads like many people wanted (Muschamp, Strong, etc.) he found young coaches on their way UP in the profession.  Guys that have been grinding from the start and have started to put a proven track record together.

This is a staff that should be hungry and should up our abilities on the recruiting trail.  Hart, Macdonald, Linguist, Nua, Jay Harbaugh, Helow, Gattis, Moore - all under 40.  The only "old guy" we have is Ed Warriner who has proven himself at this point.

Expect the 2022 and 2023 classes to be a step up!  Also, these guys should be able to connect with all the young talent Michigan has brought in the last couple years.

As I mentioned in a response to another person's post, the current hires are NFL coaches. They are not some garden variety college or HS coach. They have merited some level of confidence to get a position job in the NFL. I would assume they are above average in coaching fundamentals and schemes. Translating coaching to the college level may be a hinderance for some, but these are young coaches, so I would think they are current on dealing with college age personalities.

Recruiting is yet to be seen. Hopefully, they will excel at both their positions and recruiting. Go Blue!!

Co coordinators suck! Not one place this works out as you have two different philosophies and camps that can form. If this is true then it’s 100% proof that Harbaugh is on fumes and will exit AA after next season. I hope this is wrong

I wonder if Harbaugh is thinking that the analysts he hires can basically be mentors for these guys - I believe they're not allowed to meet students but have infinite time for coaches.

What the hell is the point of co-coordinators? You can't find one who can do it himself? Having two means you don't really have one and don't have faith in one.

It's interesting to think how--given that eight out of ten college football and bball coaches today may be crooked--if you want to be a reporter with access nowadays, you basically have to condone or overlook crookedness yourself. Not conducive to journalism in the classical sense.

I really don’t understand why we continue to put all these cooks in the kitchen and do Co this, and co that. Just put 1 person at each position for gods sake

Base defenses, once downloaded, are vulnerable to scheme.  In order to slow down modern offenses, you have to be good at something, but also be multiple and be able to change the look.  Having multiple points-of-view from the coordinators is a big step in that direction.

Having a full complement of coaches can't hurt either.  In order to be multiple, you have to teach it in a 20 hour/week contact period.  Younger guys hopefully can connect and communicate with today's players in a way that speeds absorption and execution of more complex looks.
