Idk who this guy is but he better be good and better start talkin to Will Johnson before we lose him to osu or usc.

Nice to have another "Mo" back at Michigan.

Again, not 100% sure of the hire, but seems to have a lot of experience; if he coached up Winfield jr while at Minnesota, that is a good sign.

I'm personally not a fan of the 'co' coordinator thing, however, it will play out on the field, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I think I like what we are doing.  We are looking to get younger and I'm guessing that is so we can really get after it on the recruiting trail.  I still think Harbaugh can coach when he has the horses.  There is a reason the teams that recruit the best are always the ones to bring home the hardware.

So, I think the problem with your scenario here is time. We don't have time to recruit the horses. Harbaugh needs to win NOW. I see almost no scenario where he is given another 2-3 years to get it together. That's my concern with all of these young guns. I absolutely agree, that if we were to give them a few years, they could be awesome.

I'm just not sure the timing will work. But we shall see. I'd love to be wrong.

I do agree with the second part, that he is hiring like he's building a future.

With that said, this is what he SHOULD have done 2-3 years ago. And I'm merely pointing out, I just don't think the patience is there to wait a few more years before we're competitive. I still stand by, Harbaugh will be given 2 years to either: Beat OSU or make the Big Ten Championship.

No more what he built or didn't, I don't see him getting more time than that.

So, '17 and '18?

After '18 (10-3) we hired Gattis, Warinner, Ben Herbert, Moore... I'd argue he was trying to build. Even at that point it wasn't super clear Brown had to go. Yes, he got shelled by OSU but prior to that he held 3 ranked teams to 27 total points.

We hired Moore and Warinner after '17.  Harbaugh began this transition after '16.  He tried modernizing the offense first.  The problem was the first move blew up in his face when he hired Greg Frey to implement zone schemes in the oline.  But if you really want to get technical, his first real move happened during the 2016 season when he recruited Dylan McCaffrey.  Anyway, then after '17 we hired Moore and Warinner.   But Warinner was hired so late he didn't even get to recruit at all for that 2018 class.  I'm not defending the results, I'm just saying Harbaugh has had some shitty luck to go with some bone-headed decisions.  Mind you, the line coaching being split, he'd done that at Stanford but with the dline so it SHOULD have worked in his mind.

I agree he needs to win now, but I'm not sure how that happens with where our defense is at.  The coaches may do a great job and we probably are going to have problems next year on that side of the ball.  I know no one wants to hear that but that is reality as far as I'm concerned.  We had horrible problems this year and now we have a new scheme and we have lost guys off a bad defense..  We have a roster of vipers and I'm not sure that will even be a position anymore for us.  I just feel we have a knife wound on defense and it won't be fixed with a band aid.  It is going to take more than one season and we need guys that can really bring in the talent.

I think all of that makes sense, but as I pointed out above, Harbaugh should have done this a few years ago. He waited, that was his choice. I understand why the fans are anxious. I think he gets two years to fix it. I don't see him getting more and I just worry this coaching staff will need more time than that.

I don't think you need to worry about Jim being ushered out. Warde has made it very clear throughout the offseason that it's Jim that will make the decisions about his future. Warde was not willing to let him go after a horrible season. Jim was willing to stay at Michigan with a reduced contract because there was no NFL interest. So, it appears Jim will be at Michigan as long as he wants to be.

At this point in the CFB landscape, I’m convinced that being good at recruiting gives you a better chance at success than being good at coaching.

I mean the reality is UM is also under .500 against Wisconsin, PSU and MSU so clearly the problems are not just recruiting considering UM on aggregate has outrecruited them. The fact that people act as though UM is devoid of talent is baffling, they are still second in the conference in recruiting under Harbaugh.

Michigan is not devoid of talent but the roster gap between PSU and UM is not as large as UM to OSU.

The reality is you won’t see any team with mostly 3-4 star talent break through the proverbial CFP glass ceiling with consistency.

I think it’s actually harder to identify and attract top tier coaching talent than it is to identify and recruit top tier athletes. It’s better to gamble all of these unproven hires with a roster full of 4-5 star athletes than it is to hope your unproven hire is the next Saban or Meyer. Furthermore, it’s harder to retain top tier coaches as they will be poached for better roles annually while your roster talent is roughly reliable for 3 years.

In many ways it’s a chicken or egg argument. I’m asserting it’s better to have a loaded roster year in and year out than it is to maintain a loaded revolving door staff.

The fact that failed coaches join the Alabama staff annually to appear good again, to then get other jobs and fail again, while the Bama machine keeps humming, supports the roster talent > coaching argument.

These hires almost seem based on recruiting territories..... MacDonald from the southeast in Georgia, and Linguist from Texas.  Glad nobody from California is coming, because the return is low.

Looks like he pulled 5 top 100 guys in the secondary during the 2018/2019 cycles.  Much needed help in that department.  Also strong ties to the state of Texas where OSU has really taken off lately on the recruiting front.

I love it. At this point, it is worth the risk hiring young guys that can recruit and see what they can do. I would have liked to have seen more movement on the offensive side, but we will see I guess.

It is also pretty hilarious that none of the insiders had any of these names at all. Its funny seeing people lose their minds when a potential hire is leaked and then never happens. Pretty much like recruiting I guess.
