Couple interesting things

Ran into a Manager from the basketball team at Schem.  He said looks like CH and MD are gone, allegedly OKC is the team who has promised CH, apparently 2 of his high school team mates are also on the Thunder roster.  Only scenario either are back is if Juwan can convince them to stay...

The football team is planning for a huge BBQ weekend with multiple commits. Coach Moore, Cink, and Jay all have kids ready to commit.

The entire building is focusing on DM this weekend, they hope to pull ahead in his recruitment starting NOW. No waffles planned, but Denard, MW, and JJMc are not going to give up easy.  I think this situation figures itself out quick.  CJ might already be better, or more sought after, especially after the weekend he just had at an elite camp.

BMc plays end with the 2's, and randomly gets snaps with the 1's, seems like Frosh and Sophs are passing him.

MS still playing both ways.

JJ and Cade are much tighter friends than it looks, help each other and are constantly competing.

The transfer, CG looks like Vince fricking Wilfork

Cheers

You have a valid point.  Nonetheless, it's time that he is solidly working with the 1's in his career timeline, even allowing for injury recovery.  Seems like it might be getting late pretty early for him.  And that would suck a tremendous amount of suck.  Hopefully, he can start to put it all together as the season progresses.  I'd like to see him getting regular and consistent play this season, even if only in the Oct-Nov games...

If he's mostly playing on 2nd string that means he hasn't blown up, as you might hope a junior would be, given the 2 studs in front of you have graduated

Otherwise he'd be primarily playing with the 1's

"randomly" getting reps with the 1s is a negative in this context, not a positive

Especially when outside of Mike Morris probably locking down a spot, your competition is TJ Guy, Kechaun Bennet, Derrick Moore and....Taylor Upshaw, and maybe Harrell I guess?

If true this falls into the "it's getting late, fast" bucket

Exactly, second string is a disappointment.   Mentioning that he's only occasionally playing with the ones is to say, it's not very often.  Implication that he's less often playing with the 1s than sophomores (probably some combo of Harrell, Guy and Bennett) and freshmen (Moore).

Excuse me, sir. If the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the VP's PC on the QT? Because if word leaks to the VC, the VP could end up MIA and we'd all get put on KP.

Seriously though, thanks for the info!

TYFTI!

not that there's anything wrong with that

Looks like wilfork is a lot diff than moves like wilfork!

Commits would be nice - its been... annoying watching ND and others scoop up the energy/momentum.

Unsure on meaning here as BBQ is usually in August. And visitors on our big visit weekend, June 17, don't really fit the description. I don't know who would be an OL for Sherrone Moore or a S for JayBaugh to be close with. Maybe Amir Herring on the OL, though he doesn't have a visit locked in. I think Clinkscale is close on Jyaire Hill and Aaron Gates, but they aren't visiting the same weekend

He didn't say the BBQ was this weekend. He said staff was looking to lock up some guys BBQ weekend. Then he started another paragraph about Moore this weekend. Confusing because he wrote it out of chronological order.

Question: how would a basketball manager have inside information on the football team? GOJ didn't say.

I didn't say the BBQ was this weekend either. I said it didn't make sense to talk about the BBQ weekend since that's in August and we have the majority of our recruiting board visiting between now and July 1, including our blockbuster weekend on June 17. If he's referring to June 17 then that's fine, but my next contention was I couldn't figure out which prospects he's referring to. Here's our list of visitors for that weekend and their recruiter:

  1. Jason Moore (Elston)
  2. Cayden Green (Moore)
  3. Jaxon Howard (Elston)
  4. John Walker (Elston)
  5. Enow Etta (Elston)
  6. Aaron Gates (Clinkscale)
  7. Kelze Howard (Elston)
  8. Brooks Bahr (Elston)
  9. Benjamin Hall (Hart)
  10. Raylen Wilson (Helow)
  11. Joseph Mupoyi (Elston)
  12. Landen Hatchett (Moore)
  13. Rodney Lora (Elston)

As far as I can tell JayBaugh has no visitors that weekend and Moore has Green who we're behind on and Hatchett who is a Sad Josh most likely. I do think we're close to flipping Aaron Gates with Clinkscale leading that charge.

Looking at other weekends, JayBaugh is bringing in Jeremiyah Love and Kenyon Sadiq, but it would be a surprise for either to be imminently committing. Moore has a few sleeper prospects coming on June 10 so maybe it's one of them.

CJ Carr not being a lock for Michigan seems bizarre to me.  If it's not a scheme fit I get it but seems destined to be a Michigan QB unless we have other higher rated targets.

Sam Webb has been saying that CJ is trying to keep an open mind, and that his family has been encouraging him to make his own decision rather than feeling like he has to pick UM. Sounds to me that they are approaching it in a healthy way, even if it's not what we would like to see as fans.

From what I've gathered from Sam and the folks at On3, sounds like UM is highly likely to get 1 of Dante Moore or CJ Carr; but unlikely to get both.

As a football fan, that's a bad thing. As a person who wants the best for other people, it's a good thing. Michigan gets plenty of their legacies, but it's very good for kids to be able to be their own people and make their own choices without parents pushing them toward their own preferences.

“his family has been encouraging him to make his own decision rather than feeling like he has to pick UM.”

Why is it the case that whenever there’s a legacy recruit we’re going after, the parents are always “We want him to go where he wants to feel comfortable.”

If I was a Um alumni player and my kid was good enough to get an offer from Michigan, there would be no question where they’re going to commit.

If he was a legacy from a football factory school then he would be ostracized and forbidden from family gatherings if he picked another school but Michigan alum aren’t like that. He may come here in the end but it won’t be solely because he’s a legacy recruit.

don, its not as easy as that, and i speak from experience both for myself and at least a few of our kids (more may have to cross that bridge, but not old enough yet).  the reality of the situation is that at most you might put down a list of schools, or geographies, or some other identified criterion, but that's about as far as it would go. i know you're speaking more as a fan, but there is no way on God's green earth that you would've told Don Jr., "Junior, you're going to michigan and that's final!"  you would not have done that.

I could see him not wanting to go to Michigan if Moore joins just one class ahead of him.  You'd have a five star with one more year of experience to compete with for at least your first two years.

But if Moore doesn't come to Michigan, it would be shocking if CJ didn't.  Legacy aside, he'd be coming in right after a likely JJ departure with almost a guarantee of starting as a freshman.

I'm sure Michigan will get at least one of them.

You do realize the kids have a say in it, right?

I've heard rumors that Carr doesn't necessarily want to go to school the next town over or have the expectations associated with being a legacy.

If true, I can't blame him at all. I grew up in Ann Arbor and loved it, love UM but no way in hell was I going to college in my hometown. I wanted to go somewhere new

It does feel like Michigan would be the only school that loses a legacy because the recruit has too much connection to the school/area.  I totally respect that they are doing the right thing by the recruit.  I just wish that doing the right thing would benefit the program for once.  It seems like sports are the opposite of karma - the worst actors are rewarded and those that try to do the right thing are put at a disadvantage.

Then again, that may not be limited to sports. . .

Edit:  Just to clarify, I am not calling CJ a bad actor.  I am saying that the teams that would apply undue pressure to him are the bad actors, but they are the ones more likely to get the commitments.  Kind of like how Franklin is known to be a negative recruiter, but it never comes back to bite him.
