They're doing so much to beat us, that I think they're kind of forgetting that there's a 12 team playoff, and team chemistry/cohesiveness throughout an entire season is as important as ever, much like the NFL.

Doing all this to beat us, A. May not work, and B. Even if it does work, you probably have to beat us twice, stay healthy, peak at the right time, and also match up well with other teams, not just us.

We really are in their heads.

Weird. I can feel Day's desperation all the way in Chicago. Just grabbing whoever wants to come. It'll be interesting to see if two head coaches can co-exist at that level. Chip Kelly may hate UCLA but he's been a head coach for a long time now, and relinquishing that responsibility will be an effort.

Yeah the desperation is palpable.  Day seems to be simply acquiring all the big names he can find.  Big name QB who’s less of a passer than the guy he just ran out of town, big name OC who hasn’t actually been innovative on offense in like 15 years.  Meanwhile the only upgrade to the trenches he’s made is getting the Bama center who can’t snap the ball.  We’ll see if it works out but it seems like just adding more flash than substance.

Hiring a guy seeking a huge demotion and pay cut… odd choice.

Is Kelly looking to show up to a place where he can stand on third base?

All jokes aside, great hire. I think the Buckeyes hit a triple with this one.

They may have no choice but to pitch for PJ. Shaw lost his fire at Stanford after a nice run. Not sure he's better than an OC these days. Poor PJ will find out that his 20-30K crowds for SD State games in the mammoth Rose Bowl will make him pine for 40k+ vs. Louisiana that he had coming to Minny games.

UCLA really hasn't had a good run since the early Jim Mora days. They haven't won a PAC12 titles since 97-98 under Bob Toledo.

This is all going to depend on Howard and his adjustment to big time football. Chip is going to find out having two "star" RBs is not going to work as sooner or later one will sulk. This is what made The Don so good for us - he struggled for a while but came through when BOTH of our RBs had great games.

I'm just happy the Ravens D and our D personnel coming back that we will have an answer for that team. It'll really depend on our OL development and QB if we win or lose, but I'm not expecting Chip (nor BOB if he had stayed) to light us up.

Wow.  OSU does not like losing three times in a row.  Ridiculous staffing and roster moves.

So weird, as Chip Kelly is a better Coach than Ryan Day.  This is like James Franklin hiring Dabo Swinney.  Maybe this whole "I just want to call plays and develop athletes" not recruit and do NIL stuff is real.

So what happens next year if OSU beats us, we both go to the playoff, and we still advance further than them? Will they feel like this was all worth it? I'd hate to say it, but the impact of The Game has been devalued greatly with the expanded conference and playoff.

This is very impressive... Looking forward to seeing what that offense looks like - especially when they travel to Oregon - Penn State - and host the Maize & Blue....

I’ve been saying for some time that OSU has slowly become 2014 Oregon, the team they manhandled in the trenches in the championship game. This is just one more step on that path. They still don’t understand why they’ve been losing.

First instinct is OSU is downgrading from O'Brien. Kelly is a has-been. Like Rich Rodriguez. He innovated the game and then sat on it, and the game passed him by.

[Buckeye fans everywhere] No way we won’t win a national championship now!!! [heavy mouth breathing and nervous head-nodding] But OSU will not win the national championship next season. And thus, schadenfreude will exceed any previously-seen schadenfreude from any team, at any level, in any season, in any time in all of human history. It will be glorious.

There has to be a countdown clock ticking for Day at OSU if they are going to bring in Kelly.  OSU will be dn good next year though so who knows, maybe he is just using this as a career reset.

Here’s what happened. There was a little voice in Chip Kelly’s ear.  It told him he didn’t need to work so hard keeping players, recruiting players, and attracting transfers.  It told him this was all too much work, too much responsibility, too hard.  It told him he should take a break, have a seat in the shade, take a demotion so he could do less.

That voice belonged to none other than Freddy P Soft.  But it sounded like a former player he coached, a kid named “Ryan.” So he called him up and got just what he wanted.
