And the CFP committee has said they value a conference championship.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
Because they are supposed to reward conference champions. That's what moves the needle
November 28th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
False. A Texas win makes them 12-1 with a conference championship, an extra data point as they have called it the last several years. Not sure why you think a team that has an extra game that is a conference championship couldn't or wouldn't jump a team who isn't playing.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
It just isn’t a relevant data point. So Texas can beat a team with 5 losses that got destroyed by UCF by 40 points and South Alabama by 27 and that is going to be the difference? If it was they would have them below Texas right now. Once again, I don’t care, I would prefer to beat OSU again.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
You can prefer that. But it isn't going to happen. If Texas wins this weekend, they will be ranked ahead of OSU. It's a certainty.
November 28th, 2023 at 9:24 PM ^
If you think 12-1 conference champ Texas is getting passed by OSU you're just wrong.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
ESPN thinks OSU will leapfrog UofM if Iowa wins.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
Thamel math
November 28th, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
Ran a few more scenarios. Per ESPN's predictor, OSU also jumps UGA if Bama wins. Junk science.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:50 PM ^
I don't think it matters what Bama does. With 5 teams in the top 13, the committee clearly views the SEC as the strongest conference. Should they win, Bama will have defeated #1, 11, 13 but lost to number 7 week 2. The question at that point is where you put Georgia?
You'd have UM, Pac 12, Bama, then Texas and FSU. A nightmare for the committee but the SEC is getting in. In that scenario Georgia would probably be ahead of OSU.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:16 PM ^
- Georgia (12-0)

- Alabama (11-1)

November 28th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
Only 4 BigTen teams in there...and UofM after this weekend will have taken the other 3 out.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
Hard to believe that next year those top 12 will all be in. We'll be hearing about how Liberty and Tulane deserve a shot
November 28th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
I think they're leaving 1 of those 12 spots for a small conference team.
Next year we'll be hearing how it's unfair that a 3 or 4 loss SEC team might be ranked 13 or 14.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
The closer it gets… I just don’t know about the 12-team playoff. There will be little purpose to many late season games, because teams will know they are locked into the playoff.
November 28th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
Kind of. The teams at the top will be fighting for the bye. The teams in the 9-15 range will be fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:22 PM ^
Iowa at 16. Look how we have strayed from the light.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:16 PM ^
This is why I’m fine at 2. Very little chance of playing those inbreds again.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:16 PM ^
Texas is essentially ahead of osu. They win and they’ll move ahead
November 28th, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
Bama too. Alabama wins and they are in.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
What if UM, UW, FSU, and Texas win?
November 28th, 2023 at 7:38 PM ^
That's probably your 4..
November 28th, 2023 at 11:30 PM ^
It would be tough to keep the SEC champion out. Bama would leap frog FSU. UGA would be the team out if Bama beats them in the SEC championship game. 1. UM, 2. Washington 3 Texas 4. Bama. That would be a tough first game for MIchigan.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
Would Alabama leapfrog a 12-1 Texas team that beat them? An undefeated FSU team? An Undefeated Washington team? An undefeated Michigan team? Heck, it's even possible a 12-1 Georgia doesn't fall below a 12-1 Bama team because they're back to back defending Champs.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:25 PM ^
Yes, agree Texas is in the drivers seat vs. OSU & BAMA as long as they win imho. Bama's win over 6 & 6 Auburn, who just lost to New Mexico State (and nearly lost to Cal) , was as weak and fortuitous a win as you could have. Georgia will beat Bama but if for some reason they don't they probably don't deserve to be in. Beat Iowa !
November 28th, 2023 at 7:17 PM ^
It could. Presumably OSU would need FSU, Texas and Bama to lose. Not impossible.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
I think how the Pac-12 Championship Game plays out would matter too if Washington were to lose a close game to Oregon. Should Washington be penalized for a close loss in an extra game rematch while OSU was sitting at home? I think OSU would probably need Washington to win as well to feel safe in addition to definitely needing Georgia, Oklahoma State, and Louisville winning.
And it goes without saying that OSU probably needs Michigan to win on Saturday as well.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
The idiots that pick this crap would probably put ohio in over Michigan if they lose to Iowa. And that boo corrgian doofus would be all word salad with his explanation and the idiots would buy it.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
Osu is out. They won't move. Bama or Texas will jump them with a win.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
Alabama and Texas could jump OSU still, but I don't enjoy seeing OSU so close to qualifying as they sit idle.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
OSU is out. They're idle while Texas and Bama have a chance to improve their resumes.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
I do believe they were idle last year as well and backed in !! Bama and Texas and FSU could all very easily lose
November 28th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
Last year all they needed was for USC to lose to Utah, with USC only a 3 point favorite. They got an added bonus of TCU also losing to K State in the Big 12 championship. This year is much different, they need at least 3 teams who can actually play defense to lose.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
They backed in last year because they weren't any other 1 loss teams left. They would need Oregon to lose aswell, OSU can't move past Washington. Washington would have 12 wins vs 11 wins for OSU and they beat the team that beat them unlike OSU.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
If Oregon beats Washington would they jump FSU?
November 28th, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
If this happens, I think it would depend on if Georgia wins or not. If Georgia wins, I bet they would set up 2 Michigan v 3 Oregon in Rose Bowl.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
And that is literally the last matchup I would want for Michigan.
November 28th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
Agreed. I’m holding out hope that if Florida State takes care of business and Oregon wins, everyone just slides up 1.
November 28th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
Same
FSU Michigan pls
Oregon v Georgia
November 28th, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
Beat the shit out of Iowa.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
If Michigan is ranked higher than UW why is OSU behind Oregon? They view Michigan as the better team so wouldn’t OSU’s loss be viewed as a better loss?
November 28th, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
I think they want a clear and obvious path for the P12 winner to get in.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:39 PM ^
I don’t see how they don’t, if Oregon wins. They’re 12-1 with a 3 pt loss to an undefeated team that made it to their conference championship.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:47 PM ^
The committee got it right, Oregon is currently the best 1 loss team that I have watched this season. The rankings are not about who has the better loss, it's about whose the better team. Oregon is the better team. Oregon also has better wins, and have looked damn near unstoppable the last 5-6 weeks.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
All OSU needs in FSU to lose. They will jump the Oregon/Washington loser. The only other potential wrench would be if Bama beats Ga.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
Their little ESPN predictor said 9% chance for OSU. Also, if OSU makes it, that's awesome. Basically a guaranteed win for Michigan these days.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
I don’t want them in there, at all! We overlooked TCU last year and they almost beat Ga and would’ve beat TCU. I think the committee likes them, which is why they are ahead of Tx and Bama. They are right there where at least one team is guaranteed to lose in front of them and the other has a backup quarterback and comes from a conference that is shit this year.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:42 PM ^
Horrible take. OSU needs FSU AND Texas to lose.
If Texas wins, they jump OSU. They will be a conference champion and have one more win than OSU.
November 28th, 2023 at 7:48 PM ^
Why is it a horrible take? Peoples hatred for all things OSU put blinders on here. The committee could have removed all doubt by moving TX and Bama in front of them, because OSU is the only team in the top 8 who isn’t playing for a conference title and they still ranked them 6th.
