new head coach, with OC and DC receiving instructions....
December 30th, 2023 at 1:50 AM ^
You can’t steal those signs.
December 29th, 2023 at 11:52 PM ^
Day is gone after Michigan beats them next year. Then they will look at Fickell, Hartline, Schiano as current/former OSU assistants, or Drinkwitz, or Leipold, or Braun at NW. Jedd Fisch would also be an interesting option. I don’t think they could pull DeBoer out of Washington. Fickell is the most likely, I think.
I hear Brian Kelly would take the job if it’s offered too.
December 29th, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
They're not going to look at Fickell unless he gets to 10 wins next year.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
Don't understand the love for Fickell. He went 6-6 with plenty of talent, Cincinnati was a fraud, and not setting the world on fire in Madison. But hey, they can have him. Lol.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
Fickell is about as logical of a choice for them as Matt Campbell was for us. Last time he was their coach it didn’t work out well against Michigan either.
December 30th, 2023 at 1:32 AM ^
All the OSU fans I know love Fickell. He's a meathead like them.
They love him.
December 30th, 2023 at 2:01 AM ^
The bloom is coming off Deboer when he loses his highly experienced, generational talent at QB.
December 30th, 2023 at 9:34 AM ^
I think people forget that Hartline is currently technically OSU’s OC
December 29th, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
When is the last time we didnt even score a touchdown? When Brady Hoke was coaching?
December 29th, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
That 31-0 game against ND in Hoke’s last year
December 29th, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
Yeah, I think it’d be the 2014 Notre Dame game. But, credit where it’s due — Hoke had the opportunity to kick a sad field goal to avert the shutout, and he was man enough not to do it.
December 29th, 2023 at 11:59 PM ^
Yes. At Notre Dame 2014. 31-0. Not looking up Ohio State though. Bet that was even longer ago before tonight.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:05 AM ^
OSU got shutout in the 2016 playoffs by Clemson, so I'm guessing that's the most recent
December 30th, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
Well dang, look at that. They've gone two games without a TD since we last did.
December 29th, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
The Kyle McCord experiment is looking kind of messed up.
I am sure he loves his teammates but I am also sure he is laughing at that little fuck right now.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:35 AM ^
Imagine being so shitty of a fanbase that you ran your 11-1 QB out of town just to see your next two available QBs do THAT
with the running game they showed, if McCord played they’d have won by 10+
December 30th, 2023 at 12:58 AM ^
Shiiiit, for as much as EVERY fan base was making fun of him on the sidelines at the ‘Cuse bowl game, I hope he has a little pep in his step tomorrow. He made the right decision. Fuck osu
December 30th, 2023 at 1:04 AM ^
Really! All the talent they have accumulated, 4* & 5* players at almost every position, what a waste.
You hate to see it...
December 30th, 2023 at 1:16 AM ^
So they likely had higher ranked players at all 22 positions.
They are lost right now.
December 30th, 2023 at 6:42 AM ^
It's so fucked up. What if Jaylen Harrell was just 1/2 step slow and didn't hit McCord before he threw the pick?
December 30th, 2023 at 7:31 AM ^
Rod Moore had jumped the route anyway. It was visible on replay. That ball was probably getting intercepted no matter what.
December 30th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
OSU fans keep saying that if McCord didn’t want to compete to keep the starting job then he was right to leave. But right now it’s really looking like McCord was right to not think there should’ve been a QB battle…
December 30th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
I don’t think McCord was scared of competition with Brown, Keinholz or a true frosh Norland. I think he wanted assurances that Day wasn’t bringing in Cam Ward or some other transfer. Pretty bad miscalculation by Day if he didn’t have Ward or whoever locked up.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
Maybe but Day publicly spoke of an open QB competition during bowl season.
By doing this so publicly it had the effect of placing blame on McCord for the loss to Michigan at a time the fan base was inflamed.
To me it showed poor leadership and I think it somewhat fractured their lockeroom.
Day knows the players and their abilities better than me but it seems like if you wanted open competition at the position you talk to the kids privately instead of digging into fresh wounds.
Their fan base is toxic and Day is nor handling it well.
December 30th, 2023 at 11:27 AM ^
Weren’t they claiming he left bc he knew kleinholz was going to be the starter next year? That claim didn’t age very well…
December 29th, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
I don’t get it though … Cryin’ Day told us how tough they are! He even screamed at an 86 year old to prove it! But somehow they didn’t look all that tough tonight. Strange times we live in.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
Someone wake up Lou to get his thoughts.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
The meltdown on eleven warriors is amusing.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
There should not be more posts about OSU on this board tonight than points OSU scored tonight.
So maybe it's not a great look for the board, but it's a *terrible* look for Ohio State.
Oh well.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
A national championship winning coach just became available, so they should hire Jimbo Fisher.
(Reality: Smith isn't firing Day just before he retires)
December 30th, 2023 at 12:13 AM ^
I'll admit I hoped ahead of time that OSU would win as far as the transitive property of wins and losses goes. You can usually see where things are headed in the playoffs when one team's conference is kicking ass and the other's is getting worked. But then I turned the game on in the second half and loved every second of that ass kicking. Block M shining through!
December 30th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
To Michigan's credit (and to be fair to OSU), they held Mizzou to 0 points through 3 full quarters. OSU's defense was legit and finally collapsed when their offense was useless, a la Iowa. Michigan scored 30 on THAT defense and that bodes very well for us.
December 30th, 2023 at 8:19 AM ^
Their lack of depth on D shows up in the 4Q
December 30th, 2023 at 8:51 AM ^
I'm guessing time-of-possession and # of plays run were about equal between osu & mizzou though 2 1/2 quarters. The "osu was gassed" excuse doesn't hold water.
December 30th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
This is exactly my homer take I get from this game. Mizzou had ~24th best offense in the country, the leading rusher in the nation, a duel threat QB with 3000+ passing yards. Yet OSU shut them out for 3 quarters and honestly had them bottled up. Made Mizzou look bad on offense.
Especially given how their offense was exactly that... offensive. They made Iowa's offense look threatening...
Yet in the 1 game they are so fired up for, planned for 365 days to defend, we scored 30 points...
I like that...
December 30th, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
So the police start investigating a data breach at Catapult, that allegedly involved current employees at Catapult who used to coach for a team that lost tonight. Then that team plays the worst game anyone has seen them play in a very long time. Is this proof that An Ohio State University was involved? (Just giving OSU fans a taste of what they sound like)
December 30th, 2023 at 1:22 AM ^
Not gonna lie. That was more cathartic than it should be.
December 30th, 2023 at 6:59 AM ^
Gene left his balls in the early 2000s, he’s nothing but a self concerned figure head at this point. Ryan Day lost his cred a season ago, after this years ttun game his **** should have had to find his own way home. He’s gotten more chances than he’s earned. The only smart thing Jimmy ever said was about him being born on third base. Rings super true
Here is just one excerpt from 11W - LOL
December 30th, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
There was a thread on 11 Warriors yesterday asking whether they would rather have both Michigan and OSU lose, or both win. Comments were amusing.
This evening's game has created complete meltdown over there.
December 30th, 2023 at 1:23 AM ^
I guarantee it was about 95% lose lose.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:21 AM ^
Day is obviously part of the problem. But the officiating has changed as well. The blatant favoritism the officials showed the Buckeyes has shifted the past few years.
The Buckeyes used to play with a lot of confidence and were successful. I'm convinced knowing the refs have your back goes a long way toward playing loose and fast and having positive results.
December 30th, 2023 at 1:27 AM ^
Did you see the personal foul which was game changing at the end of the half w the Bucks on the goal line and ready to punt,?
A Buckeye took a full swing and hit a Missouri player. He should have been kicked out and gotten a Pf. They gave Missouri the penalty. 1st down and no punt from the one yard line.
It was insane.
December 30th, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
Same crew that blew a change of possession to Missouri on the t(tm)OSU ten.
They still get the rub.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:22 AM ^
I live 35 min outside Cleveland. I went out to the bars (yes plural) in my Michigan hat and Michigan hoodie to watch the game.
…
…
it was as fucking awesome as you would expect. no one said a fucking word to me. the universal look of hate as I walked in and they saw my glorious maize and blue … then the looks of confusion, anger, despair, and nausea as the game unfolded.
if this is what they’re putting forth next year, they’ll be 8-4
December 30th, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
They probably thought you were wearing Missouri gear.
December 30th, 2023 at 12:47 AM ^
There were more letters on my hoodies than there was average teeth per bar patron, so you might be right, but I digress
December 30th, 2023 at 1:04 AM ^
8-4 is being a tad generous if they can't bag a high rated QB from the portal.
December 30th, 2023 at 7:47 AM ^
Malachi Nelson is still out there.
I’m betting OSU will pull out all the stops to lure him in. Day knows his job is at stake next year, so he needs a big fish.
Nelson is that big fish.
