WR routes don’t have to be 5 step drops. His longest play in 2021 was the 5 yard slant vs msu where Andrel took it another 90 yards for the td. His longest pass play in 2022 was a wr screen where Roman wilson ran for 63 yards for a 61 yard TD.

His completion pct. for passes where the ball traveled 9+ yards in the air was <50% in 2021 and that was with the best line in the nation.

Funny how often Cade is ripped for being a "game manager," and it is asserted, without any way of knowing for sure, that he was a relatively unimportant part of our successful 2021 season, but I'll tell you, if JJ hadn't thrown two pick-sixes in that TCU game last year, I think we win it. Seems like a competent "game manager," sometimes, is pretty valuable.

Again: I like JJ, and I was definitely pleased he got the starting position last year. He's an awesome quarterback, and a lot more fun to watch than Cade. Still, I think it's funny how quickly we've decided that Cade played an essentially insignificant role in the team's success in 2021.

I don't love the answer but some of the "Cade hate" seems excessive. While here he led Michigan to one of its best seasons of the modern era in 2021 and was one of few bright spots in 2020. I wasn't super mature at his age and likely would have felt some of the same frustrations at losing a starting position.

I read the quotes and they didn't seem so bad.  If you ask stupid questions you get stupid answers.  Cade probably needs to learn how to give even dumber answers like Harbs does.

I don’t read that into it at all. Sounds like someone reading too much into it or maybe a reporter trolling for clicks.

He’s just answering a question regarding a difficult situation. I don’t personally care for Cade but that’s how you properly answer that question. And his coaches likely agree.

“Instead, it’s been more of the same. Iowa starting quarterback Cade Namara was asked on Tuesday if the lack of involvement by the Hawkeye receivers was due to game plan or if there was a way to get the group more involved.

“‘I mean, I’m just a quarterback. I’m not calling the plays or doing any of that. That’s not my decision. I’m just going to run the play, and I’m going to throw it to the open guy,” McNamara said, deferring any explanation to his embattled offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz.

McNamara was asked what the best way to get Brown individually more involved would be.

“Whatever Brian thinks is the best way to get Kaleb Brown involved, I’m all for it,” McNamara said.

Despite the frustrations from this past weekend and the slow start to the season, McNamara reiterated that he has complete trust in his receivers.

“‘I mean, I’m extremely confident in them. They know how confident I am (in them), and I know that they’re confident in me. I don’t really care about anything other than me and theirs relationship and I know how we both feel about one another,’ McNamara said.”

Meh. This isn't as bad as I was expecting from the title, considering Cade's behavior since being asked to compete with a 5* for his starting job, getting hurt, transferring out butthurt, and talking shit about it the entire time.

But on this question, he's not wrong.

This is like when your ex wife marries someone else and then she starts treating them the same way she treated you and you try so hard to not find joy in it because resentment and vindictiveness are not fulfilling ways to live.

In fairness to Cade, what was he supposed to say? That Ferentz is doing a great job and that the team has total confidence in him? That Ferentz is calling great plays and that it's Cade's fault or the receivers' fault they're not being executed?

At some point, the kid has to be able to hold a straight face.

Well, he's not wrong, but Ferentz is still his boss. He should have gone on about the merits of YouTube TV instead. Apparently he learned absolutely nothing from his time here.

I’m surprised Kirk didn’t hire a “Co-OC”. Let the new OC design a game plan, call the plays, and mentor Brian for a few years. Brian stays as an OC, and hopefully learns from the other OC and in a few years resumes play calling with more experience and knowledge.
They could use the old strategy, if you can’t fire him, promote him. Let Kirk retire and make Brian the HC. He can hire an OC and give them 100% control.

Throw under the bus?

Asked about what wide receivers are doing and amount of plays that are passes, Cade said, "I mean, I’m just a quarterback. I’m not calling the plays or doing any of that. That’s not my decision. I’m just going to run the play, and I’m going to throw it to the open guy."

To me, that seems diplomatic, correct, and a good answer, worthy of a Michigan grad.

Also, "Offensive" "Coordinator" "Brian" Ferentz has been living under the bus for more than a year.  You can't throw someone to a place they already occupy.

Simple: “clearly our effort isn’t good enough and needs work. We’re going to do our best to follow whatever the coaches tell us to fix these problems.” Cade’s kind of immature and he’s probably going to look worse and worse the worse this gets. He went to the worst team he could and honestly thought he’s just that awesome and they’ll just turn it around under his prowess.  I hate that I almost want him to fall on his face but he’s doing every possible thing wrong. Slamming the door on your way out. Proceeding to run your mouth. We’ll see how it goes.
