How do people keep saying this? Not everything is going to turn out to be true but we literally have pictures of Stallions on the CMU sideline publicly available and Ryan Walters saying publicly there is video of people filming in the stands where Stallions bought seats. That is evidence

Was it Stalions? The individual that resembles him was CMU credentialed and knew how the rest of the staff would be dressed. Could be him, but even then, likely at CMU's behest, despite denials. Guess they wouldn't know without interviewing him.

Also, recording sidelines of other games is not illegal.

And, buying others' recordings of sidelines is not illegal.

And, paying others to attend others' games is not illegal.

A bunch of coaches whining about something does not make what they're whining about illegal. And video evidence of what they're whining about does not suddenly make it so either.

If Stalions was at CMU (unproven), and if he wasn't there doing CMU work instead of Michigan work (unprovable), then there is actually no evidence of anything illegal, despite your being incredulous that people keep saying it.

This Buckeye was right.

That is not evidence of Harbaugh doing anything.  So we just reflexively suspend Harbaugh anyway?  That is overshooting the mark, even for Michigan.

We should suspend Stallions without pay, finish out the season, and then let whatever is going to happen happen.

Yes, anyone arguing Stalions didn't try to get signs from future opponents is wrong.  But CMU hasn't confirmed that's him or how he got credentialed on that sideline, which does matter a bit.

Beyond that, if you're going to suspend Harbaugh for all this without anything close to a real investigation then you have to have rock solid evidence he knew or was purposely blind to it, at least in my opinion.  This is all uncharted waters for the league and UM but there are a lot of claims out there lacking substantive evidence and since the person being directly punished here isn't Stalions I do get the need to have a bit more evidence behind it all.

I think people are mixing up the timeline here.  The Big Ten almost certainly will wait for the NCAA to wrap up its investigation before it takes any action (and most likely, it will just sign off on whatever the NCAA rules).

This meeting is most likely just an exchange of pleasantries.  Anything substantive would happen a lot later.

So what are the AD's actually going to do?  Petitti's job is as much to be a flack jacket for issues, and so if you told me this was partly performative so these ADs could go to their coaches and fans and say "we told him you were unhappy" while not actually having to put skin in the game this early I wouldn't be shocked.  Because I promise you that if he tries to punish UM 2 weeks after this still-developing story came out he'd sure as shit lose the confidence of UM, who means a hell of a lot more to this conference and their money than fucking Purdue and Rutgers.

So the answer to my question is "pretending this isn't a thing." Fine.

I guess more accurately: Saying it isn't a thing because the ADs are being fake tough.

But I think if Petitti gave us a fine because Stalions broke the rule (in everyone's opinion who isn't on this blog), that would still be the B1G punishing us before the NCAA gave a ruling, and only would have happened because the ADs threw a hissy fit. And I think we would accept the fine so we could move on.

No one is going to move on after a $10k fine.  If the big ten wants to get this right, it would commission a proper above board investigation of all 14-18 teams' scouting and sign deciphering practices, lay the report out to all AD's and decide how to either reset standards or enforce current rules.

Michigan and the Big Ten cannot allow one program to unilaterally investigate another to death.

Not a good idea. B1G doing something does not stop NCAA. If B1G wants to put that in writing, hell yeah. Pay the fine. I am sure a GoFundMe will raise $10,000 or UM can just pay from the money they make on the concession stands in one game from those overpriced snacks. But, B1G is not going to do that because they can't vouch for NCAA.

My prediction: They’re going to suspend the entire coaching staff for the remainder of the season. JJ and Sainristil take over as player coaches. Michigan completely shuts out it’s remaining opponents on unstoppable march to National Championship rendering non player coaches obsolete. Day and Franklin are fired. Michigan destroys Georgia so badly, people begin comparing the event to Sherman’s March. Football is saved. Union is saved. Thank you Jim, this was your plan all along.

The problem is that she and Bruce F have spent a ton of time this past week, calling coaches and asking them "anonymous" questions, (Max Olson also) to which they have responded in surreal fashion. So she is taking her cues from the crazy things that coaches have said.

Ordinarily, coaches have been much more measured/realistic when attaching their names to quotes.

However, you've got losers like Ryan Walters saying that "they" (Michigan) were at our games. As if these kids who did gametape door dash for Stalions were an actual vast network of michigan spies, and as if that makes more than a negligible difference.

I hope his quote makes the bulletin board for the actual Michigan staff and players. And I hope that they let him know that "they're" at the game on Saturday to the tune of 85–0.

Haller equating criminal battery in the Michigan tunnel and the league acting quickly to suspend MSU players who were *arrested and charged with actual crimes* to alleged sign stealing is really a big fucking joke.

I am still astounded at why people still listen to someone when you hear those words come out of their mouth.

Doesn't Petitti serve the school presidents? I mean, the coaches and ADs can complain all they want (and leak that BS to the media), but the school presidents are the ones that sign off on major stuff, like conference realignment. I assume trying to lay the hammer on a football program would take the same process.

First we were told no one in the conference would want to damage a cash cow. Then the coaches threw a fit.

Then we were told, well the ADs wouldn't want to mess with money. Then they threw a fit.

OSU president and MSU president will surely be frothing at the mouth here, and I assume many of the other presidents will as well.
