Prince and Springsteen at the top of the list for talent. I hate to go along with anything Mel Tucker agrees with but I do like Prince.
I'd always put Pink Floyd at the top of any list but that's me. Lots of great choices out there.

Rhule is a brave man.

I’m now only commenting on this thread to defend Dave, who is actually quite awesome and done something none of us could. Haha.
im secure with myself

Harbaugh should’ve said Migos.
(”Mama!”)
August 25th, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
or "Worldwide" Pitbull

Agreed
(HEY!)
August 25th, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
The Killers?
/seems obvious
August 25th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
Whatttt Needtobreathe is my favorite band and it seems like hardly anyone knows them. It really had to be Northwestern's interim coach!? 😂
August 25th, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
I mean, they are pretty popular amongst mainstream Christian culture, which many coaches fall in that stream of thinking.
August 25th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
Oh I know them well. They in no way get the public notoriety that the deserve, so I was surprised.
August 25th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
They are very good, I got the chance to see them twice between 2010 and 2012. Bo (or Bear?) Rinehart was actually a college WR at Furman I believe. He is (or at least was) their all time leading receiver, which is pretty awesome if you ask me.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
Good choice by Tom Allen. Completely surprised at our coach's choice. I can't, for the life of me, picture Harbaugh driving down the road with his windows down and "You Outta Know" blaring from the radio.
August 25th, 2023 at 2:00 PM ^
Checks out MercyMe, vomits in mouth a little bit.
August 25th, 2023 at 2:26 PM ^
Why?
August 25th, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
Because Christian rock is fucking trash. Thought that was implied.
August 25th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
Is it because it is christian or just the basic idea that christian rock artists aren't good musicians?
August 25th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Yes.
August 25th, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
That seems rather narrow-minded.
August 25th, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
Not sure why it's ok to trash Dave Matthews but not another band. Rock n Roll, in its true form, has always been somewhat subversive. I mean...sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Why is it not ok to say this form of rock music doesn't jibe with what I like about rock music? It's not a knock on the religion, it's a question whether these two things go together and if you think they don't, that's not ok?
August 26th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
Neither.
It's because the songs tend to be shitty pablum.
August 25th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
Maybe you haven't heard good Christian music.
...I could go on, but I'll spare you the pure delight.
August 25th, 2023 at 6:31 PM ^
Forgot one, Chuck
August 25th, 2023 at 7:26 PM ^
YES!!! Awesome!
H-A-R-T!
August 25th, 2023 at 1:52 PM ^
I would've guessed Gordon Lightfoot.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:53 PM ^
Sigh: Tucker selects Prince, further confounding my efforts to despise anyone based solely on their association with MSU.
August 25th, 2023 at 4:58 PM ^
I am assuming that response was thoroughly tested to make sure it appeals to recruits. It seems like every bit of his public persona is geared towards that. It seems like he cares more about that part of his job than actually coaching to improve his players, and the results show.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:55 PM ^
Schiano absolutely pandering to the NJ crowd (not that Springsteen is a bad choice)
August 25th, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
Well, he was born and raised in NJ.
August 25th, 2023 at 1:55 PM ^
Gotta give credit to Walters and Tucker for Prince. Head and shoulders better than any other artists listed.
August 25th, 2023 at 2:09 PM ^
While being a whole head shorter than most of those listed. Prince was a small man.
August 25th, 2023 at 2:34 PM ^
Not when he was skying over you to dunk in yiur face and then add insult to injury with pancakes afterwards
August 25th, 2023 at 1:56 PM ^
What a load of bullshit crafted-for-PR choices.
August 25th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
I got to say Morgan Wallen is an odd choice for PR purposes.
Regardless of my personal thoughts (no politics) about Wallen, it's a choice that the fan population probably has sharply divided opinions on (and not musical taste opinions).
August 25th, 2023 at 1:57 PM ^
I bet that Harbaugh confused Morissette with another female artist. Or Alice Cooper.
August 25th, 2023 at 3:43 PM ^
Jim Morrisette?

Jim Mora? Playoffs! Playoffs???
August 25th, 2023 at 2:07 PM ^
no Roy Orbison?
no Keith Whitley?
no Eagles?
no Allman Brothers?
no Doors?
kids these days have no taste in music.

Frames saying Jay Z feels like such a fake BS answer. Dude is a used car salesman
August 25th, 2023 at 2:24 PM ^
Exactly my thought. No adult actually buys that bullshit
August 25th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
Kendrick Lamar would be the BS answer.
Jay-Z and Franklin are both in their early 50s. Franklin liking a (black, not to bring race into it, but seems relevant here) rapper whose debut album came out when Franklin was just out of the college passes the sniff test to me.
August 25th, 2023 at 5:02 PM ^
Coming from anybody but him, I would think you are right. I don't believe a single word that guy says. Franklin has always said whatever serves his best interests at the time. He has made it work for him, but integrity is not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear his name.
August 25th, 2023 at 5:55 PM ^
Fair enough. I'm not accusing you personally of this, but I think there's often a reflexive "Franklin gets the benefit of the doubt on absolutely nothing" attitude amongst some here.
From my (arguably biased) POV, I think he's matured over his 9 years, he's not the same person. There were these "ask the coaches various questions?" last year too, his answers always felt genuine.
Last year --- Day was (IMO) by far giving the most political answers, he refused to even name his "favorite old-school football coach" (Harbaugh said his Dad, Franklin said his college coach at East Stroudsburg ........ and Schiano said Kirk Ferentz).
August 25th, 2023 at 6:36 PM ^
At least we can all agree that Day is a douche.
Also, 9 years? Has it been that long? It is possible that he has mellowed, but he always gave off the smarmy, used-car-salesman vibes, and I’m not sure if those kinds of guys ever change all that much.
Urban Meyer always seemed like if a genie offered to give him a national championship in exchange for his senior QB dying tragically afterwards, he wouldn’t even hesitate. Franklin seems like he would at least negotiate for a different player or just a maiming before accepting.
August 25th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
He's not a used car salesman. He's used to car sales, man.
August 25th, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
His answers are always like that. Dude tries so hard to appear cool to recruits
August 25th, 2023 at 2:10 PM ^
None of the guys in the 50's are picking U2, or Led Zep, or others of that ilk? C'mon... I call bullshit. Springsteen and Prince I get. Morgan Wallen? Bullshit...
August 25th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
Wallen played Ohio Stadium 2 weeks ago.
With Ryan Day, I can honestly see him being "musical artist??? WTF, I don't listen to that stuff, I have football stuff to do. But I did hear something about someone playing at the Stadium the other day, it made me 1 minute late to my office. I'll name him."
August 25th, 2023 at 3:47 PM ^
Yeah, as much as I want to snark on Ryan Day for that choice (and by all means, don't let me hold you all back from doing same), that was probably the extent of his thought process there. That said, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks also played the Toilet Seat a few weekends ago, so maybe he should've stated one of them since they're both much better musicians. I didn't know they were in town until a friend who was at the concert posted about it on Facebook. I was thrilled for her and asked what row was she seated in - was it the on edge of 17?
For some reason she didn't deign to dignify that with a response :(
