And just like that, HELLO: LaMar Morgan (new DB coach)

Current DC as Louisiana.  Worked with Minter at Vandy.  The “1a” choice for the job.  Another good hire.

I am wondering if I should tell my employer that I am taking a job coaching at Michigan, just so that I can get a big raise.  It seemed to work for so many of our coaching targets.

Seriously though, this is a great hire.  Hopefully he can recruit Sabb to stay.

Obviously being a DC at a place like Louisiana isn't the same as at Michigan, but I do like that he has prior DC experience.

Feels like it would be a smoother transition from Wink to Morgan than from Wink to Clink or Elston (who did not have play calling experience) whenever that time comes.

"Reporting" was that he and Adegoke were basically a coin-flip after the interviews. Glad he was still available and willing. May well be no-harm-no-foul in the end.

And yes, now go talk to Sabb and see if there's anything you can do!

I hope he can get Sabb back, but that ship might've sailed the minute both Paige and Moore announced they were coming back.

And if that's the case, what're you gonna do? Sabb might've been banking one at least one of them leaving, but now that they aren't, he's not starting next year. He'll play a lot, but he won't start, and he'll have to wait until he's a senior to do so. He may be sitting there and saying he's going pro after the 2024 season no matter what, and if that's the case, it doesn't help his draft stock to be a reserves guy.

He may be the first one off the bench, but barring an injury he likely won't be a starter.

Yeah, I don't know if there is anything Morgan can do if Sabb wants to be an "almost every down" starter (which he certainly would be on 90% of the teams out there).

Here are the snaps in the Rose Bowl:
R Moore: 62
Q Johnson: 37
M Paige: 32
K Sabb: 5

Now, I assume if Sabb stays, he would get up to the Q level of snaps, but if he wants more than that, he's not getting it here. That's what happens when you have an All-American along with a high-performing 5th year senior-to-be returning.

OK, here are two more games (in which Q Johnson wasn't hurt & able to play, and Paige didn't have a bum ankle which limited his mobility)

UM vs OSU:
R. Moore: 58 (out of 58 possible)
M. Paige: 43
Q. Johnson: 15
K. Sabb: 0

(notice how Paige + Johnson = Moore)

UM vs Penn State:
R. Moore: 53 (out of 63 possible)
M. Paige: 45
Q. Johnson: 19
K. Sabb: 11

So if Moore and Paige are healthy, they suck up the large majority of snaps. It is understandable if Sabb doesn't want to limit himself to likely playing just 1/4 to 1/2 of the game.

that ship might've sailed the minute both Paige and Moore announced they were coming back.

If that was the case why did he wait so long to announce it? Kid is free to do as he chooses and I wish him the best, but the timing seems odd. Why not wait til after spring practice? Not like he can transfer immediately and take part in his new team's spring practices.

If Minter likes him and recommends him, that's all I need to know.

Also good to have a guy with some play-calling experience. Not sure how Louisiana's defense was last year, but maybe he's the guy that Wink identifies as the DC in waiting.

This just means he’ll have an NFL job by Monday.

Kidding aside, I like that there seemed to a plan and Sherrone moved on quickly.  We need this one to stick.  We also need to give Morgan Sabb’s number pronto.

I'm good with this. I actually preferred this dude to Adegoke all things considered. Morgan was rec'd by Jesse and could be a great candidate for DC here in 2-3 years. Adegoke is of course a rising star as well, but he's rising so fast that it felt like he was gonna be a 1 year rental till an NFL team poached him back again. I suspect we'll be able to keep Morgan a while

His 1st order of business was to tell Keon Sabb that Michigan still isn't compensating their players. All extra money goes to old white men in suits.

If he worked with Minter - and understands the secondary as well as how to coach it - "Come on down!"

Wishing him and the entire squad a productive Spring Practice season.
