The main issue for me is I have no god damned idea who is on the team and who isn’t anymore. Which is fine but I personally have no interest in keeping up with the latest season of “As the Transfer Portal Turns”.

At least the NFL has 1 designated free agency session and if you want to trade after that, you work directly with another team where some form of compensation is exchanged.

Best of luck to all the young men going their own way but contractually-obligated college football cannot get here soon enough, which is something I never thought I’d say.

And I think that's very fair and why some people are losing their college fandom a bit. You used to be able to logically follow the depth chart and see who would likely be starting year over year, but now you have to worry about tampering, players maybe not being satisfied with their NIL, players seeking even slightly more playing time, etc. and it's just hard to be mentally invested

Respectfully, you’re a terrible fan if you’re losing you interest in the sport because of roster movement. There’s some real Family-Guy-Mystery-Box vibes with the way people talk about transfers. Beasley has been here for all of 3 months, Herring a few years and evidently he’d rather play than fight to be a 6OL late in his career. Waller had connections with the previous defensive staff and when someone dropped a bag on him he gladly took it, hurts but can’t fault the man. I would guess that pound for pound UM has one of the strongest cultures in CFB, if losing ~5 transfers in an entire cycle is too much for some people idk what to say. Be blessed by a great program, not hurt by every single transfer

Three in two days and counting.

Suddenly the "LOL Sparty gotz players in the portal har, har" threads arent quite as funny as they used to be.

They are still pretty funny. They have lost bonafide starters and we are losing freshman low on the depth chart. I did not expect the freshman class to be our largest attrition but it makes some sense with the staffing turnover. Guys who have been here have had a chance to fall in love with the school and football culture and are incentivized to stay. The freshman have not had that chance yet and the relationships are gone for most of them. Herring is a bit more of a puzzle because his guy is still here but it may have been getting late early for him. I believe he was the more college-ready of the guards coming in and if it hasn't happened yet talent may have passed him up.

Good thing i didn't read most of threads I see.

There are always people out the door after spring ball. Some don't like where they ended up on the depth chart, and some probably had heart to heart conversations with their position coaches. Hopefully those guys will end up where they really belong.

And I guess nowadays you get guys looking for cash. Thus is the nature of the sport.

<Bad thing happens to rival>

“Ha, ha – look at those losers.  They had a bad thing happen, it’s so funny.  Ha ha.”

Hey guys, be careful. That same bad thing could happen to us too.

“Never, not us.  That bad thing just happens to loser schools, not Michigan”

<Bad thing happens to Michigan>

See guys, bad things can happen to us too

“You just like saying I told you so.  Nobody likes that.  Stop it”

I'm pretty sure Sparty lost most of their only strength which was their DL as well as their one highly rated recruit of the last few years.

Michigan has lost Waller - admittedly a significant depth piece - and some unproven younger players who may become assets to a good team down the road but didn't want to wait and find out if it would be at Michigan.

Not the same thing.

mGrow, the difference is that Sparty has lost quite a few contributors from what was a 4-8 team.

Michigan has lost two contributors off of a (checks notes) 15-0 team.

Michigan presumably has more "next men up" on their championship team (which has been recruiting at a top-15 level) than MSU has on their under .500 team (which has been recruiting at a top-30/40/50 level).

MSU lost Harmon, their 3rd-year starting DT, and Bai Jobe, a top 60 recruit, while Michigan lost a solid CB2 option in Waller and a couple of depth guys who hadn't seen the field.

Also, there were rumblings even before the spring game that some guys would leave, so 3 in 2 days isn't something terrible.  If UM has multiple starters or top-end recruits bolt then that's a time to be concerned.

I know it’s cliche and he is young but I get the feeling he was getting bounced around at practice. This is not a Waller situation.
