5-Star 2020 PF Greg Brown Set to Visit in February

Submitted by UMFanatic96 on January 3rd, 2020 at 2:56 PM

Greg Brown, the #8 overall player in the 2020 class (5-star  and #1 PF) is set to visit Michigan the weekend of Feb. 7th for the Michigan-MSU game.

If Juwan pulls this one out, he would overtake Isaiah Todd as the highest-ranked commit for the class. He's a 6'9 PF and would fill a similar role to Todd and the newly committed Williams.

You also have to wonder if Juwan going after another player of this position means anything as far as Todd potentially going overseas.

It would be absolutely astounding if Juwan can get two 5-stars in his first recruiting class to go with 3 other top-100 guys.

This probably deserves its own thread, but Corey Evans at Rivals just put in a FutureCast pick for Josh Christopher and Michigan.

Juwan Howard continues to prove academics, bagman, and whatever other excuse is convenient to make for the football program falling short of expectations don't matter.

We're in great hands for the next 20 years under J Howard people.

So you're saying all the fans, especially ones who posted nonstop whiny posts about the search and Warde Manuel, were wrong? Maybe you like getting kicked off the board every month so you don't have to be held accountable when your Chicken Little shtick gets proven completely wrong.

Stupid snide shot in the middle line there. Basketball and football recruiting are extremely different. You can praise Juwan without shitting on the football program. You'd have to have your head in the sand not to acknowledge the impacts of those things on football recruiting.

Football program deserves the criticism that comes its way as do the people that keep defending it. Demand better and maybe you'll get better. As for Juwan, he's proving all the people who claimed it was impossible to recruit McDonalds All Americans wrong, very very wrong. Now those same people want to make excuses for football? Nah fam.

No. Your reading comp and deduction skills aren't good are they. The point was that the football program has no reason to make changes as long as fans show they are ok with it. March down the diag and Brandon gets fired. Make excuses online about cheating and online classes after every time we get our ass kicked and nothing will change. Now back to Juwan, good for him for living by his own quote "we don't believe in excuses, we believe in getting the job done. Excuses lead to failure"

No your attempt to draw a line between the success of Juwan's recruiting and issues you have with the Football program was goddamn asinine. There is NO link between the two except in your imaginary world.

Do better...

Yeah, everything is simple and there's a simple explanation for everything.

So far, it appears that we're very lucky to have Juwan Howard as our coach. Juwan Howard didn't play at Michigan, play in the NBA for years, and then learn under some of the best coaches in the league because Michigan fans demanded it. Those things just happened and we're damned lucky he went here and loves this university so much. The fanbase can't just will "better" into existence.

Beat me to posting.  I’ll add that he’s top-10 to Rivals and ESPN as well as 24/7.  Furthermore, he decided not to take a visit to UNC in favor of visiting Michigan.  Howard definitely has a recruits thinking differently about Michigan than they used to.

Question to the board.  I saw a chart that showed we have no more slots left for 2020....

So, if say Brown, or even Josh Christopher commits, what happens? Does that mean Davis doesn't return?  Man I hope not, at moment he is my favorite player. Need a goon on the team and he is it.    It is someone like Nunez not asked back? I don't know how it works, and I'm not dissing Nunez here and want him to stay.

You can tell a 5th year player like Davis to move on. You can't do that to players like Nunez who are guaranteed four year scholarships.

Davis' scholarship is open to give to another player, make no mistake about that. You don't build winners by turning down a 5* at a position of need like Christopher in favor of Davis.

You don't need a goon on the team and Davis sure doesn't seem like one to me one. No idea what you're talking about but this is as big of a no-brainer as you'll ever get in recruiting.

Yes, coaches can and do say that. But kids can say I'm going to prove you wrong or I'll transfer after I get my degree.

I don't think it's going to be an issue. Michigan has had attrition off the roster and/or its recruiting class every year maybe since Beilein was hired. There's been at least one unused scholarship for some years running too.

Dude, no offense, you can like who you want, but if Davis is your favorite player you really need to watch a little closer.    And yes, just like football, don't ask where the spots come from.  Coaches will always find a spot for a 5*.

It seems like Howard wants to have positionless basketball where you have ultimate flexibility. Todd, Williams, and Brown all kinda fit the same mold of 6'9-6'11 athletic freaks who can still stretch the floor.

I would think that Howard's prefer style is to have your dominant big man in the post (Teske, Dickinson), a solid PG (Simpson, Dejulius, Jackson), and then 3 athletic wings who can switch and play multiple positions (Franz, Livers, Todd, Williams, Brown, Christopher).

No way Williams is a PF- just too damn short. He will be a swing 3 providing some girth on the floor. He may be able to take advantage of interesting matchups against some 4s, but these are completely different roles

Seems like every year we get surprised by attrition and end up with less than 13 scholarship players on the roster. I say, you are on a roll Juwan, keep it going.

I wonder what the other Big Ten coaches (and fan bases) are thinking about Howard and Michigan.

There's a decent chance even with just the guys we already have committed we're going to see some attrition from the current team. There's a bunch of guys who came to play a role in Beilein's system and are looking over their shoulder at some Top-100 guys. Depending on who leaves early, if anyone, there's a going to be a lot of spots "open" next year for minutes and these incoming freshman will be in the conversation for significant minutes right away.

smart recruiting, dont wait and let others dictate to you and be reactive

obviously love mr todd and hope he joins us, but tip my hat to juwan being proactive

Wonder if we are thinking of two hyper athletic power forwards as the lineup next year. Similar to Juwan and Chris back in the day.

Great news that we are in on three 5 stars late in the cycle. 2020 is going to be fun.

Well, the kid can fly and sky-another tremendous athlete. Definitely could play the 4 and 5-not the range, yet, for the 3.

I love the athleticism and raw talent of the big kids...and the size of Dickinson. Todd looks more like a one-and-done than Brown...so Juwan may be thinking Brown can give a second year behind Todd

But wow! Where is this Michigan basketball recruiting going???

The 2020 lineup could feature Todd and Wagner at the guards if they wanted to.

This is crazy new territory for Michigan fans to think about.

This kid isn't visiting until February, Todd will make his decision sometime in the spring. If Michigan adds Brown sometime in that timeframe, he can still add Todd as well. If Todd decides to go overseas, Brown was an excellent insurance policy. It's a win win. Howard may have some preliminary intel on Livers NBA prospects as well which may be driving the power forward necessity some too. Which ever way you slice this, I'm enjoying the ride!
