Hopefully they call big Mo Hurst

He'll probably finish his contact and that will be it.  I wonder what that says about Diggs and Killebrew though.

The Lions were awful vs. the run after Ngata was out.  Unless they think Hurst will be available as a FA, I don't see another Day 1 starter at DL remaining.

Man. Terrible about Mo. Will he go undrafted now? I know we’re all pissed and we thought he was cleared, but at this point there’s more to this than NFL teams following a rumor. They know something or some team would take him.

Day 2 selection! I am really happy for him considering how much he sacrificed for the team by continually moving positions to help the team win. I hope he has a long and successful career.

Nearly 1,400 yards rushing in the SEC? Hell yes! Great get in Johnson. Sorry Lion haters. He is going to be a good one! If you want to bitch, like most of you do, bitch about the Lions 3rd round pick. That was truly awful!

At this point I don't know. My guess is that some GM will take him early in the 4th and he'll be subjected to a battery of medical tests, found to be fine, and he'll quickly murder offensive linemen. What does surprise me is the number of people claiming this is because NFL teams care about his health. If there is one thing you can say with 1000% certainty is that the NFL doesn't give a shit about a guy's health. If they did, they wouldn't have drafted, I don't know, Josh Rosen and his two concussions this year in the first round. And it's not about long-term fears for his health, because he'll be drafted lower or be a UDFA and be given a chance to play. It's just watching a guy lose millions because of lazy groupthink.

Because of concerns about a heart condition, it’s a little fucked up to draft him in a later round. I know the NFL is about money and risk aversion, but that’s some heartless shit.

Why? If you are using your first three rounds to build your team for this and subsequent years, why is it unreasonable to have reservations that a guy may never play, or suddenly have to end his career?

I wish he'd have been drafted already, and I hate this for him, but if teams have genuine concerns that he won't be playing for them in the fall, or that he'll play for a while and then suddenly vanish, that's a good reason not to draft him. A later-round pick is less risky, because you are counting on less for that pick.

Put it this way: If the Lions drafted some guy from Southern Texas State that had a 50-50 chance of not playing in the first couple of rounds, we'd roast them if the guy didn't play. And we'd be right.

I don't think Hurst is a 50-50 shot, but if teams do, there's a worry there. The draft is so important, and gets so much publicity, that making that kind of mistake is unacceptable.

So they're cowards, but they're not ignorant cowards.

for Mo teams are not viewing him as a sure thing for whatever reason. If he was a sure thing in their eyes he would have been gone by now because these picks other pucks that have occurred are far from a sure thing.

So there's this:

"A little more up and down than expected."

First of all, that's garbage.

Second of all, even if there was an issue or two, this is not an issue of effort or workrate or ability. Mason Cole has been drafted. Half of OSU's defense has been drafted. MIke Gesicki, who can't block as a TE, has been drafted. It's not like they've got a lot of perfect players to choose from here.

He's not dropping because there's some up and down on film. Medical reasons and cowardice are the only reasons for this slide.

Interesting given how he was a PFF fave rave. That feels like desperately casting about for other reasons to justify a decision they wanted to make anyway. If inconsistent tape stopped a D-Lineman from getting drafted high, just about none of them would go until the fourth round.

edit: And this dude is tripling down in his hot takeyness, so while his source may be legit he may just be trying.g to stir the pot.  Again, feels like an uncritical swallowing of a story meant to keep teams from.owning up to taking him off for the heart condition .

What exactly is this “heart condition”? It not congestive heart failure. What did he docs at the combine actually see...was it something on an EKG? This is stupefying to all us that watched him dominate.

just talked about Mo Hurst again and said he has talked to 15 teams and all but 1 had him completely off their board. He also said his heart condition is similar to that of Hank Gathers, the Loyola Marymount basketball player who died during a game in the late 80s. This sounds pretty damn serious. Most of us also remember what happened to Jiri Fischer from the Red Wings about 15 years ago where he also died of heart failure during a game. Teams view him as a huge risk. I hope this isn't true but Mo may never play another down of football again. All the best to you Mo - we support you.
