Having Harbaugh is a huge help with the transfer portal. Having Harbaugh kind of screws us with recruiting high school kids. Both are true and the latter deserves to be criticized. I want Jim to coach till the day the good lord comes to A2 and takes him off to the big game in the sky. But, either go or don’t! I don’t know the ins and outs of the contract “show me love” BS. But I know it’s detrimental to the kids who committed and wanna play for Jim. So if the chargers are where he wants to be, I’ll thank him for all he gave the university and especially this year.

This is why I'm not stressing at all about it. Even if he returns this will not stop. Ever. No wording in a contract will get him to openly state that, no, he has zero interest in an NFL job. Every year he is at Michigan will end with him vaguely stating his desire to stay or go or feel wanted and this will happen.

If he leaves, I thank him for his time and the National Championship. If he stays, he stays but I'll get ready to do this all over again next year.

Recruiting still isn't entirely about money and the negative recruiting attack on Jim leaving for The NFL works. It works. Michigan had lost kids due to their believing he wouldn't stick around. Jim's own actions don't help alleviate that.

It's very easy to say "I'm not interested". He won't say it because he is interested. So don't fret because stay or go the 2024 UM team will be very different than 2023. Even if he comes back a bunch of staff and players will be different. If he goes? Slightly more different. Don't stress about it and enjoy being THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

And?  We're 40-3 the last three years, with three B1G titles and a national championship.

The idea that you'd let arguably our best coach in school history leave just because he causes you a little stress in the offseason is crazy.  Do you remember where this program was before Jim?

His desire to explore NFL options certainly has significant negative impact on recruiting during a time when we should be capitalizing coming off of a national championship.  That's undeniable.

No one in their right mind is saying let him walk, but in terms of recruiting, his NFL talk in the past three years has hurt the program.

LMAOOOOOOOOOO at you and this pitiful take. "Hurt the program"? Are fucking serious?

We just went 15-0 and won the national championship. All with players and coaches who stuck around and went through Harbaugh interviewing with the NFL multiple times.

It's incredible the way people take for granted what Harbaugh brings to the table. You want good recruiting? Brady Hoke's vaunted 2012 and 2013 classes were ranked #6 and #4 in the country, respectively. Lotta good it did him.

In the transfer portal era, recruiting matters a lot less anyway. IDGAF how Harbaugh gets his players. The guys who come here end up winners.

Yes and you're entirely missing the point of the post.

Your (everyone's) collective worrying isn't gonna change anything. Further, if he returns it won't stop. That's not a "so, let him leave then" post. It's fact. If he wants to leave and gets the right offer he will. If not, he won't and this will happen again next year. Deal with it and enjoy being a national champ.

100M buyout.  That aligns with his promise and shows commitment.  And let's see NFL teams work with that.

Purely hypothetical.

But, a number large enough to show his commitment and at the same time, deter NFL teams from commencing talks.

I remember Harbaugh saying, "I'm here as long as Michigan wants me here."  If that still holds true, embracing a provision in the contract to reflect his words shouldn't be an encumbrance.

Then, what is the purpose of Clinksdale in recruiting?  If Walters can recruit better CBs than Moore and Harbaugh, why even put Clinksdale out there to recruit if a bad head coach is recruiting better talent at a position than a position coach from a Championship team?  Didn't Clinksdale come to Michigan with a better resume than Walters?

That would probably be a good thing because that means we have a chance to get him back once our staff is settled, whether it’s Harbaugh or Moore as Head Coach.

Others have mentioned that he just finished visiting other schools, Georgia in particular. If they are throwing big money at him and that’s the reason he decommitted, then we have no shot of getting him back.

Well, maybe kids want to be sure that the head coach will be there. This has hurt us every year in recruiting. Now you toss in our inability to compete in the NIL arena this makes it sledding up hill. I’ve already stated that I’m fine with Jim leaving because he has earned it but at some point something has to give.

Why based off today do you think it’s because Harbaugh is flirting with the NFL? The kid committed early before this dance happened in ‘23. Will Johnson went on a podcast saying he knows what JJ and Harbs were doing? Ironically, you don’t think it’s coincidental that he decommitted after visiting very pro NIL schools? Could Harbaugh have a reason for his decommit? Sure, who knows. To me, it seems like more NIL issues/negative recruiting given the conviction he had this last year

Florida kid who watched our national championship celebration. I just knew that a parade in Ann Arbor in January was a bad idea.
