‘25 CB commit Chris Ewald decommitts
January 15th, 2024 at 7:24 PM ^
Coincidence he decommits on the day the Chargers post Harbaugh interviewed for their open position in LA?
January 15th, 2024 at 7:25 PM ^
It's quite amazing coming off of a national championship, we have instability at coaching and our top recruit decommits. Only at Michigan.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:34 PM ^
Dejavu from last year, and last year it was dejavu from 2021.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:58 PM ^
And the only difference in 2020 was the widespread belief that we would fire our coach. It comes with the Harbaugh experience. It has been worth it to me since December 2014 when he said he would come here. I didn’t waiver in 2020, like so many here sadly did.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:26 PM ^
He's been about as soft a commit as could be since the beginning. It was going to happen eventually
January 15th, 2024 at 8:24 PM ^
I was under the impression it was the opposite actually, and that he was pumping UM hard at camps and whatnot.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:27 PM ^
Never understand why recruits commit so early. Anyways good luck to him!
January 15th, 2024 at 7:30 PM ^
Man, an awful lot of posters who just learned Ewald was even committed sure do have some strong opinions about why!
January 15th, 2024 at 8:50 PM ^
Nah, get that 11w take outta here. We’ve been talking about him taking visits since the spring. I never understand why comments like this are made to disparage the people who post on this board. But since we are all ignorant, please enlighten us to your educated opinion, Mr Quail 🙏🙌
January 15th, 2024 at 7:31 PM ^
It doesn't matter anymore. That's a roster spot that will open up for a transfer portal kid.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:32 PM ^
It was reported last week he was taking three visits, so one may have enticed him really well on NIL. Once again; Michigan needs to compete at the same NIL level as many others to keep or get commits from a lot of elite players like Ewald. I am not saying by not getting players like Ewald that it will falter the program, but if you want the best, then play the NIL game to get the best.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:57 PM ^
Hence the problem. As soon as we start competing with the way NIL really works in college football, the NCAA will decide to enforce the NIL rules . . . against Michigan.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:27 PM ^
Did you not know that FSU got absolutely hammered because a coach drove a recruit to an otherwise acceptable NIL meeting?
Cant vouch for what went on AT the meeting, but the concept of an NIL meeting while on a recruiting trip is fine, and they got rocked with sanctions over it.
January 16th, 2024 at 2:10 AM ^
Their sanctions didn't amount to shit and will have very little effect on that program.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:39 PM ^
Shocked
January 15th, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
We need to get our NIL act together. If we have committed kids going on NIL tours of the ACC and SEC the week after we won the Natty then decommitting then that’s not good.
But honestly if this kid was committed for a year and then decommitted after we just won it all, then he’s probably not a good culture fit
January 15th, 2024 at 7:55 PM ^
If by "get it together" you mean offer recruits cash upfront. we're not doing that. And based on our results on the field, we're right to do so.
January 15th, 2024 at 9:21 PM ^
NIL hasn't been in place long enough for it to have had a obvious meaningful effect on the current M roster. We'll know how sustainable M's approach to NIL is starting a year or two from now.
January 16th, 2024 at 8:30 AM ^
I'm sorry, but if you want to recruit top 100 kids and honestly most 4*s, then those are the waters you have to swim in because at some point Michigan is going to be the outlier not offering money
January 16th, 2024 at 10:31 AM ^
That point was two seasons ago. We have elite talent developers and top notch in the transfer portal but our recruiting is kind of lazy or NIL is putting us in an impossible position. What DB talent is our secondary coach bringing in? What talent is our WR coach bringing in? How long was the gap between JJ and Davis and exactly how many 4*+ QB recruits were available during that period. I feel like this is the possible worst you could recruit with these on field results. Elite development isnt the enemy of elite recruiting. They can both happen.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
Cool. Don’t care until signing day.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:44 PM ^
I said before the season that this year is the last year of college football that looks and feels like the cfb we knew. Michigan isn't doing the NIL thing. Ever. We aren't ever going to be top 10 in recruiting. Ain't happening. We have to develop 3 and 3.5 stars and get some portal guys to round things out. The odds of us winning a national championship fall big time after this year. I'm glad we did it because I think it could be the. Last time for another 30 years or more. If ever. I saw it happen so I'm satisfied personally. You all will need to savor this one. I feel bad for those that have expectations that Michigan is gonna dance with the big time programs going forward.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:32 PM ^
I dont necessarily think thats true, but the national championship itself will mean less as soon as a 9-3 reg season team makes a run to the final, and that will absolutely happen sooner or later. Might even be Michigan.
Buti agree with you in terms of a 15-0 or even 14-1 season again. There has to be at least a small amount of luck in finding, securing, and pushing all the right buttons on Rod Moores, Mike Sainristils, and Kenneth Grants.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:47 PM ^
Sources say it’s because he didn’t feel the love from Warde.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
Get out of here JUB. Your wife wants to feel the bear hug.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:51 PM ^
He doesn’t know something about Harbaugh that we don’t. My guess is some school like Miami is offering him money to sign on the dotted line and Michigan isn’t.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:54 PM ^
I’m fine if Jim leaves. He’s earned it. But what really irks me was his comment last year that this wouldn’t be a yearly thing. Either he wasn’t honest or he’s not feeling like the University wants him bad enough. The unintended consequences of this is the recruiting relationships that are affected.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:04 PM ^
In fairness slots gone on this year but I feel your sentiment.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:34 PM ^
This was not a normal year. Michigan played 3 games with a different head coach since he said that, and at least 1 position coach will not be returning.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:55 PM ^
Downvoted the OP because I know that if anyone is capable of offering a comment and/or opinion, it's you.
January 16th, 2024 at 2:12 AM ^
Is it much to ask for a proper imbed so we can read the tweet while we're at it?
January 15th, 2024 at 8:03 PM ^
Glad we got one this year.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:06 PM ^
he wants a leased Lambo
January 15th, 2024 at 8:19 PM ^
Fuck!
I feel like this is a clear sign Keith Jackson is ill. Possibly terminally.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:27 PM ^
irrational BPONE intensifies
January 15th, 2024 at 8:35 PM ^
Recruits matter.
great coaching, culture, and development matter more.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:37 PM ^
247 had a blurb about him saying he liked that we won the national championship then says he locked in visits to Georgia, FSU and Miami.. felt very telling that he wasn't solid.
Onward and upward.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:39 PM ^
The Harbaugh effect.
Nothing like muting the momentum of the best run we have had in decades.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:48 PM ^
How does one always post positive news??? Amazing!!!
January 15th, 2024 at 8:49 PM ^
Our success the last 3 years hasn’t done shit for recruiting. Other schools that suck are killing recruiting and we have to struggle to sign a top 20 class. Tulane is signing 5 star portal WR’s and high 4 star corners and we can’t hold onto what we got. WTF!
January 15th, 2024 at 8:59 PM ^
SQ with yet another negative piece of info! I bet you are happy!!!
January 15th, 2024 at 9:18 PM ^
Shocking. I'm excited to miss out on all our top CB targets and take some fliers.
Also, I really hope this is just classic high rated Florida recruit decommitting and not a "Harbaugh is leaving and so is Minter so I'm out" type of decommitment.
January 15th, 2024 at 9:27 PM ^
That's utterly bizarre timing. I think Sam was just praising how steadfast he is in his commitment, and honestly even if you're not, it's super weird to do it in the afterglow of a championship when you're so far out from any obligation to publicly decommit. Good luck at Miami.
January 15th, 2024 at 11:48 PM ^
That’s crazy if Sam was saying that when he was taking visits to Miami and FSU during the season.
January 15th, 2024 at 9:54 PM ^
I hate that Michigan just won the national championship with a 15-0 record, where they looked more talented and better coached than Alabama, and we're still hung up on recruiting. Also, this particular recruit would likely not see the field for another 3-4 years. Everybody needs to take a break. We actually have nice things!!! I'll be basking until at least August and can't possibly be bothered about recruiting in the meantime.
January 15th, 2024 at 10:02 PM ^
If JH had a contact to sign, why was he showing praying gestures during the championship event when Warde was saying he was trying to get the contract done? Something doesn't add up..
January 15th, 2024 at 10:26 PM ^
If anyone expected him to actually show up here...I don't know what to tell them.
January 15th, 2024 at 11:09 PM ^
R-E-L-A-X
We made the playoff 3 years in a row, now we can get in with 2-3 losses, we have an amazing program that has won the national championship while recruiting outside the top ten and with the best academics in FBS NC history!
I fucking love Jim Harbaugh for all of this!
I love that he marches to his own drummer. Let’s cherish that, and quit the bullshit whining about his interest in the NFL.
We gonna be fine!
January 15th, 2024 at 11:46 PM ^
Oh noes! Whatever will we do! Commits from 16 year olds are essentially less than worthless.
