Brian December 5th, 2021 at 12:28 PM

Well, here's the bracket:

  1. Alabama
  2. Michigan
  3. Georgia
  4. Cincinnati

Georgia was the SEC runner-up after an undefeated regular season but lost to Alabama 41-24 in the SEC championship game. Michigan will play them at the Orange Bowl in Miami on New Year's Eve.

So, Michigan’s reward for winning the Big Ten is a road game against the #1 team in SP+.

Don’t be fooled by Georgia’s performance yesterday. They had nothing to play for, and a loss helped their ESS-EEE-SEE brethren. I’m not saying they’re unbeatable, but this draw is not befitting the Big Ten champion.

What pisses me off is if the committee had been given these four teams AND oklahoma state had won as 12-1 conference champ, they would've put in 2 SEC teams and left out either Cincinnati or Oklahoma State. Games matter to most of the country, but for SEC teams the eye test is all you need

Would have liked to play Cincy or Oklahoma State, which are uncommonly winnable games at this level.

But it’s the playoff, grown-up football time.

I wouldn’t say we’re favored or “likely,” but this is not an impossible ask. It’s elite team against elite team.

Win the Game.

Michigan's body of work this season is superior to Alabama's. They had a bunch of squeaker wins over middling opponents. Their loss was to #24 8-4 Texas A&M. Ours was to #11 10-2 MSU.

They beat Georgia at #1. We beat OSU at #2.

Four weeks ago when we were playing Penn State, Alabama was playing New Mexico State.

There is no reason other than money for the committee to jump them over us.

That said, go win and none of it matters.

This is because most people understand that Georgia was number 1 and had their first loss to the number 3 team and should still be in the playoff.  Root for MI, but don't be irrational in thinking that Georgia does not deserve to be in the top 4.  Doors blown off to me is a four touchdown win or 59-0 win.

What’s funny to me is that our beat down of #2 OSU 42-27 somehow makes OSU less stellar than Bama’s beat down of #1UGA at 41-24.

In my mind, both OSU and UGA got exposed. UGA just had the benefit of playing a super easy schedule (far easier than OSUs) and getting a meh win over Clemson in the down year.

Georgia (neutral site) loses by 17 drops 2 spots.

Osu (road) loses by 15 drops 6 spots.

Yeah I know Osu lost already and we dont care about OSU but this should be concerning. If you think a #1 ranked UM doesnt drop 4 or more spots after a 17 point drubbing you are crazy. Yeah we made it but the SEC bias is heavy and im afraid we are even eating it up now.

I knew Georgia would be ranked 3rd ahead of Cincinnati. That seemed pretty obvious based on how the committee usually operates. But I'm a little disappointed that Alabama leapt us after we put up a 42-3 win.

Bama jumping Michigan is annoying but expected.  Based on overall body of work and higher ranking before a blowout win in their championship game, Michigan deserves to be #1.  The SEC bias inflates everything related to the SEC including strength of schedule.  There's zero evidence that the SEC is the best conference this year.

But regardless, all the playoff teams will be tough to beat and will probably bring their A game.  I'm thrilled that they have earned a spot in the playoffs.  Hope they play well.  It's all gravy right now.

I don't give a fuck who we're playing or who else got in, I'm walking on clouds today knowing we are champs and made the CFP... can't stop smiling all was right with the world...then I logged in and saw all of the bitching about minutia. Jesus.

I get the debate who went where because we're fans. The CFP committee kind of got it right based off the criteria they had to work with and of course an SEC rematch weighed heavily on their minds. If anything they gave Michigan a break finishing @ #2 since Vegas has Georgia as a TD plus favorite.

We can beat Georgia.

While it is always satisfying as fans to complain to one another about bias, lack of respect, etc., the reality is that we were always going to face Georgia or Alabama (and probably both) to win the championship. The CFP committee would not want a rematch between the two SEC teams at the semi-final stage.

SEC bias may well account for the inclusion of both, though the claims of the teams that missed the cut are not convincingly superior, as has been pointed out, but that gives us a chance to prove on the field how big a mistake they made in favoring the SEC. If it plays as well as it has lately, limits mistakes, and avoids injuries, this team can win out.

Regardless, they have had a great year, overcome adversity, and far exceeded the expectations of all but the most optimistic, as the euphoria on MGoBlog since the victory over OSU demonstrates.

They have earned our heartfelt gratitude.

Get the hard one out of the way early as I’m sure we’ll see Cinci in the Final (/s). Say what you will about the SEC having two teams, they probably are two of the best four teams. It will be an incontrovertible truth that UM is the best team in the country if they win it by beating OSU, then walk all over a decent Iowa team, then beating Georgia…then presumably Bama. Jeez.

I am not in the least bit scared of Georgia. We're playing the best football of anybody right now, and we're going to keep playing the best football of anybody.

Let's fucking go. This month can't go by quickly enough.

Michigan should be number one but I like the draw. We can beat doughy Smart and I'd rather play them than Saban with 4 weeks for him to prepare or the pressure of playing the first non-power 5 team (even if it might have been an easier win.)

Beat Georgia and whoever comes out of that other one.

We have a chance to upset the SEC playoff committee apple cart. They wanted Alabama vs Georgia as the final game but Michigan could wreck their plan. It would neat if Cincy could upset Bama.

We were 2 and blew out our opponent, so we should be 1.  Bama should be 2, Cinci 3, and Georgia 4.   But they didn't want Bama and Georgia playing again so soon.  So be it.  Only difference is we play Prime Time at 730pm and not at 330pm.  And bonus is we get a chip on shoulder for it.

Did Georgia throw the SEC Championship game to get two SEC teams in and fool us into thinking they aren't the best team in the country?

If any conference is going to throw games, it's that one.
