Louisville appeal denied, must vacate 2013 national championship
Retroactive national champions, anyone?
I know that's not the way it works, but it's kind of annoying that we lost to a team that cheated.

Funny you mention that. Sorry for the cool-story-bro sidetrack, but Dunham's in 1989 was one of the reasons I went to UofM. When I was in high school, I was debating between playing sports at a smaller college and going to UofM. During that internal debate, I came across a picture of my 8th birthday party, where I was proudly rocking a new, UofM Championship sweatshirt and I was like, "man, I've loved that place since I was little kid, I'm not going anywhere else".

There's probably a bunch of kids running around in a village in Sudan wearing these shirts. I'm sure they've got the 19-0 Pats Perfect Season Shirts too.

They should sell them back to us, make some quick money.

Bad example, because:
1. Yes he did.
2. Every single guy he shared a podium with, along with the rest of the field, was also doping.
February 21st, 2018 at 7:04 AM ^
Many of the other riders were doing EPO and/or HgH, etc., too. Not all.
Some of the guys in to top five of the variousTdF from the Armstrong era later tested positive. Others never tested positive, but are widely suspected of using PEDs.
Sort of an interesting parallel with CBB. There are very few top CBB programs that have been clean, even though only a few have been officially caught. Same can be said about doping in the Armstrong era.
Beilein is the rare exception.
Even though most of the top programs in CBB have been cheating for a long time, also like Armstrong, it seems that Lousville was doing it in a more extreme, efficient, and institutionalized way than most other programs.
If there were ever a case where the runner up should be named the champion, this is it. Lousiville was very dirty and Michigan was and is a very clean program.

He didn't even get him with the body - what a fucking terrible call.

I have never had that much fun watching any Michigan team in any sport compete as I did watching that tourney run. How many times were they on death's door only to have Burke drain an insane 40' TREY to pull them out? Imagine 1 more year of Burke and McGary.

Although there is no justice in the universe.... Petino's last game was a loss to UofM in the Tourney. So F him.
February 20th, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
What is the logic for not retroactively awarding the championship to the runner-up? Michigan proved themselves to be the best eligible team in the tournament.

February 20th, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
Their logic is dumb! The NCAA has backed themselves into a corner with big TV contracts and huge revenue streams from conference play. They can no longer (nor will they) restrict a team from playing on TV or issue the death penalty. This is the one way in which they can actually punish a school and they refuse to do it.
Louisville will continue to call themselves 2013 NCAA champions and merely exponging their record does nothing. No one will ever take serious "2013 NCAA championship vacated" but they must if the title is "Michigan - 2013 NCAA champions." College athletics is the only competition I know that punishes the clean losers more than the cheating victors. No wonder Louisville purchased prostitutes for its players and I am not shocked about the upcoming FBI investigation results.
February 20th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
Louisville's not going to claim the title. They obviously are taking this ruling seriously, given that they appealed it. More significantly, no one else will recognize them.
It sucks to lose to a team that turned out to be ineligible, but we're never going to be recognized as the champs.
February 20th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
You can't change the outcome of the game, just whether or not a program can claim the results of the games outcome.
Michigan still has to count the loss.
