Multiple Reports: Braxton Miller Injured, Season In Jeopardy
[Fuller]
Multiple outlets are reporting that Braxton Miller reinjured his shoulder in practice this evening, and it could cause him to miss the 2014 season. Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch first reported the news:
Ohio State senior quarterback Braxton Miller, considered by several polls to be among the preseason leaders to make a run at the Heisman Trophy, reinjured his right shoulder in practice this afternoon, sources told The Dispatch. The injury puts in jeopardy his playing status for the coming season.
An OSU spokesman would not confirm the news, and coach Urban Meyer could not be reached for comment.
Eleven Warriors reports that Miller left practice in a sling. Bucknuts claims a third source that says Miller was injured in today's practice. All are reporting that the injury is to Miller's right (throwing) shoulder, which he injured against Clemson in the Orange Bowl before undergoing surgery in February. Ohio State hasn't confirmed any of these reports thus far.
If Miller misses time, redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett currently leads redshirt sophomore Cardale Jones to be the next in at quarterback for Ohio State. Barrett redshirted in 2013 while recovering from a knee injury he suffered in his senior season of high school. Jones appeared in three games last season, completing 1/2 passes for 3 yards and rushing 17 times for 128 yards and a touchdown.
If Braxton Miller is out, Ohio State returns 19.1% of their rushing yards and 0.1% of their passing yards.

Isn't that the premise of the wildly successful, hit television show, "Jackass"? You live in a society that takes enjoyment in the suffering of others. Futhermore, you're visiting a blog that, in large part, is dedicated to the sport of football. Football is a sport that is predicated upon taking enjoyment in one player causing physical harm to other players.
You may be the only football fan that doesn't enjoy big hits...

He is a unique talent. I hope he is okay and suits up soon. NCAA is less without him. I always want our best to play their best.

It does mean he can, but people are speculating that he won't because he's going to be fed up wuth risking his health for free. Which is certainly something to consider for him.

how high in the draft could he go, missing the entire year? I know he's a Heisman caliber talent, but how does he project to the NFL?
August 19th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
It's not looking good for him I have heard a lot of things saying if he didn't come out this year and explode (Heisman caliber talent) that there is a good chance he wouldn't get taken until the 4th or 5th round.

In times like these, just scroll through the comment section and enjoy. Yeah, what happened to Braxton sucks, for him. But on the bright side, for me, it's great entertainment.

and as much as I agree that I want to play their best in The Game, it certainly isn't the ifrst time either team had gone into that sacred November day being at less than 100%. It usually has some impact on the game, but for the most part, both sides bring it during the game and won't have a huge impact. Well, most the time... All that said, we've said how often that RRod's hiring impacted Michigan and The Game for a few years, yet their side proudly counts those wins in the streak they held over us for a while. I have NO PROBLEM beating them without Miller.

Well, of course. Injuries happen, and you play nonetheless. I don't recall any ohio fans sighing and saying they didn't want to count the win they had two years ago because Denard was hurt.

following his surgery in February, this will leave him only three months to recover from an injury, the severity of which has yet to be determined.

Never want to see a kid hurt. Hope he recovers fully if it is as serious as people are making it out to be. I want UM to beat OSU because I don't like their team, but I am 100% against seeing anyone on OSU get injured playing football.
That said, man does MSU's road to the conference championship game open up if he's out. They basically have to beat UM at home and not blow the game against PSU to close out the year and they are set.

Hell, they might still be the favorites. Having to play a highly ranked RS FR at QB is not the end of the world. It's not like they're going to be trotting out Joe Bauserman.
August 19th, 2014 at 6:46 AM ^
I've read at a couple of places that the backup situation at OSU is not great compared to last year with Guiton. And that offense is also breaking in a new RB and a bunch of linemen. Not having Miller definitely downgrades their chances.
August 19th, 2014 at 7:38 AM ^
but they have 4 games to break in new starters before conference play. They still have an awful lot of talent, just more question marks than usual. Writing them off is way premature and I'm staying off the MSU bandwagon. They might be really good again, but I don't see how they're any different than the team that flopped in 2012.
August 19th, 2014 at 8:41 AM ^
Are you sure? I'm not sure the NCAA classifies what Bauserman did those last couple years as "playing" so it's entirely possible he's got eligibility left.

OSU's first game against Navy just got a whole lot more interesting.
